Sort of an '80's thing. My wife went to one of those beauty/ makeup / photo things that was advertised in the local newspaper at the time. Came home with something a little tamer. Lasted a couple of weeks and it was over. I think she got tired of my "did you stick your finger in the light socket?" jokes.

Ah yes, Gas station attendant. My first real job. We emptied ashtrays too. (Also gone.)

Mine too. I never emptied an ashtray. I only ever wiped the windshield on a fill-up, unless asked. Never checked the oil unless asked. B)

Me three, in the mid 70s in high school. We always asked if the customer wanted the windows done or the oil checked. Station was in a 1950s neighborhood with original owners for a major part. Many of them had their last "new" car still in service. Lots of oddball 1960s stuff, but the weirdest one I remember was a 1966-ish Chrysler Newport 2-door whos old lady owner finally asked to have the oil checked. I popped the hood and was amazed to see no power steering, no power brake booster, and the weird levers sticking out of the steering column indicating a 3-on-the-tree. Also had a customer who was the widow of a CHP officer that drove a 69 Monaco wagon with a 440 Magnum. Had most of the options I remember including the weird Cyclops Eye driving light thing.

Add me to that list. First job , Petes Texaco in Oak Lawn Ill.  Check oil, clean windows no ash trays.  Back then we had new license plates every year. We (i ) would put them on for customers. Also boss had a contract with a place called Western Auto Tire Store, Customers came to us to have the new tires installed and balanced. My record was 64 tires one Saturday when they had a big sale. It actually was a fun job.

She probably figured all those fancy options were a waste of money.

Decided to drive into town today and check out HL for anything new on the model shelves.  Looked out the living room window and then thought I’d get the snow off the driveway first as long as it was nice outside.   Put the snowblower away and came inside to get cleaned up and dressed to go into town.  As I was toweling off I heard Joyce chuckle and she told me to come look at THIS. THIS turned out to be LOTS of fresh snow coming down and so windy that the snow was blown horizontally.  There’s still lots of snow coming down and refilling the driveway; I like to do what I can to help out the snowplow drivers and neighbors use their snow removal gear!  ???

Yesterday morning, saw some roadcrews replacing a light post on a highway offramp. Someone was driving a little too fast for conditions, and failed to negotiate the curve.

This morning I watched a green Hyundai slide off the road and take out the same light post. So not even 24 hours later.

I chuckled.

It used to be a story about the Goose that laid the Golden eggs, now it's the same story but with a Chicken in the starring role....
