TransAmMike Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 For a bit over 3 years this pure white Deer makes an apprarance in our area. She was just a doe when we first saw her. The pictures were taken by my Daughter from our front porch.
cobraman Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Wow ! I don't believe I ever saw one. Are they very common ?
Miatatom Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 So cool. I hope no one wants to make a trophy out of her.

Venom Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 We used to have an albino deer that roamed a certain portion of our town years ago as well. Not sure how common it is, but guessing it’s not incredibly rare
Mike C. Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Seeing one of those has to have some hidden meaning or something. I also have an Albino deer story. The first year I went buck hunting with my dad and uncle and 1 cousin, I had to be around 15 and I had herd stories of pure white deer but had never seen one. Must have been the 2nd day in (upstate PA) I'm with my dad and we see this heard of about 15 or so deer we weren't close enough to see any antlers and didn't get a shot but my dad made a sharp noise to make them all stop and he points out a pure white doe to me. We stood there in amazement for a minute. I have never seen one since. Saw plenty of the patchy ones but never a pure white on again. I went around for years thinking these things were very common. Turns out their not.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) Seems like there used to be one on every other block in Britain... Edited January 29, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy 1
peteski Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Albinism occurs in all species, but it is relatively rare. Here is some info about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albinism I wonder how the other "normal" deer treat an albino deer? Do do they shun it, or accept it?
Classicgas Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Beautiful. While we've never had a albino, we do get visitors daily. Once there were 7 out there.
PappyD340 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 They are very cool, I've only seen one in my lifetime on a hunt years ago.

OldTrucker Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I've seen three in my lifetime. Two when we lived in Wisconsin. One of those while hunting, maybe a 10 or 12 point buck. My wife's step-grandpa got mad when I wouldn't shoot it!LOL The third one was out of town at a state park. Coming into town saw it feeding in a corn field near the tree line. Looked to be a yearling. It made the local news the next day but a couple days later it had tried to cross the road at a bridge and a car hit it.
Mike C. Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 My cousin has a cabin on state game land in upstate PA. Sometimes some of his inlaws would stay and hunt with us and this one time this one guy got a blotchy sort of buck. It was interesting because the pattern on the one one side was a mirror image of the white blotches on the other side. I may have even taken a picture of it. I'll have to go and look. This was back when you had to take the film to the drugstore and wait for them to develop it.

Here's what appears to be a knowledgeable article about white deer, and the differences between albinism and leucistic or piebald. Written by Matthew L. Miller, director of science communications for The Nature Conservancy, it probably has a good chance of being factual. https://blog.nature.org/science/2016/02/03/white-deer-understanding-a-common-animal-of-uncommon-color/
TransAmMike Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 Wasn't expecting this many comments on my pictures. By the way, I don't know about other areas but shooting a white deer is illegal here in Tennessee. A few more pics for antone interested. This answers the question if the other deers shun a white one... Close up taken by a friend of my Daughter. All other pics were taken by my Daughter from our porch. Our Turkey flock. Sometimes there are 15-20 out there at once. 1
Venom Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Well since others have added their deer pics, I guess I’ll chip in .... This was standing about 3 feet outside my window last summer.
