Well, I suppose that's subjective.

Personally, I prefer the rear styling on the '69/'70.

Cleaner.....less busy.

In my eye, the '71/'72 rear looks too "Cadillac-ish".

I prefer the more subdued '69 look, but then I have an obvious bias. :)

I think the cleaner rear end gives the car a little more of a muscle car bent.

The '71/'72's  lend to more of a luxury car look.

I'm with Steve on this.  Personally, I much prefer the '69/'70 front and rear look over the freshened '71/'72 version, especially given the contrived (in my view) configuration of the '71/'72 headlamps.

But, to each his own....cool thing though is that we had model car kits of both designs back in the day, and that they can still be found (albeit at a price) even today.

A 1/1 '69 or '70 GP Model SJ with the upgraded 428/455 engine and a four speed is one of those dream cars I would have bought by now if I was an active 1/1 scale collector....

Not factory stock.  Could it be the 1968 Hemi Under Glass Barracuda?

I like this guess.

If only they make it the correct 68 and not a 69.

Am I nuts, or did I see somewhere that Round-2 is re-releasing the old SMP 1960 Chevy Nomad station wagon?

Steve

I'd go for that one, too!

Any hint as to where you read about the release?

I can’t remember, but I thought I saw something somewhere.

It’s not really that high on my want list, so that’s probably why I didn’t pay a lot of attention.

MPC offered that kit in both '68 and '69 versions.  I have one complete '69 and parts of another including the body (which, for this kit, has the hood molded closed).

'69 had different box art, similar to that copied by RC2 for their infamous Nostalgia Series reissue of the AMT '66.

My feeble research shows the original HHUG Barracudas were 66-68 models, only 69 models were recreations. If I'm wrong, somebody will be sure to say so.

Now that's a rumor I haven't heard, but would be all abuzz if it were true?

I didn't say there was a 1:1 '69, only that MPC made a '69 version of their kit.  The '68 version was likely a good seller, so they probably wanted to sell more after the body had been updated to '69 spec.

Would be quite a surprise if they did, as the original kit wasn't exactly AMT/SMP's finest hour! Not looking forward to cutting door opening lines in the roof pillars, or reshaping the front end to fit the way better Revellogram grille - then there's the fact they used the six-taillight Impala rear bumper instead of the correct four-light promo bumper... Still I suppose it would attract buyers, given enough period decals and added accessories.

Maybe it came to me in a dream. :P

Do it some more, I like the stuff in your dreams.

My dreams are, I go into a store (drug, thrift, antique) and on the shelf I find one old collectible kit, then another and another. I find so many that I try to grab them, but when I go back to where they are - they keep disappearing!

I wake up depressed, because I missed a golden opportunity to acquire something that never existed.

Shooting up out of bed in a cold sweat, grasping and reaching around for an AMT 1963 Oldsmobile Jetfire, while reality slowly sets in. Aaaand scene!

I would love to see some kits or kit I never had the chance to build. I was young then but enjoying looking at my brothers built models..

On the topic of suggestions for future releases:

With the 72 Chevy pickup back in circulation, what are the chances it can be mated back with the Open Road camper?

We know the tooling exists, as it was a Model King exclusive about 15-20 years ago.

No clean up needed, just box 'em up together!

Not a bad idea at all, but it might need a little time to pass. Since the Ramp Truck can build a stock pickup, and then the stock pick up was quickly Coca Cola'd, I'd suspect dealers and wholesales might balk at the idea of having what is basically the same kit in 3 boxings on the shelf at the same time.
