Great job Ryan on an amazingly detailed but not-easy-to-assemble kit. Your ride height adjustment look’s spot-on. I have built two of these Fujimi 356 kits, a coupe and a roadster, and all four tires struggle to simultaneously touch the ground on both of my builds! Despite my errors, both were a joy to build and look very realistic when finished. Best wheels of any car kit out there IMO.

I particularly like the job you did on that dash. Did you use a Molotow pen for the  radio and trim? Try to find and build a roadster if you can, they’re a little easier than a coupe and that fabulous interior is even more visible.

Thanks man. Yep I had one wheel floating when I test fit the thing so I had to sand down the attachment points to get it settled down. Wasn’t too bad though, and I was planning on lowering it anyway.
For the dash, I drilled out the 5 gauges, stuck the decals between two trimmed pieces of clear plastic and attached them from behind. Then I used some wire, shaped around the appropriately sized aluminum rods, to make the bezels. The radio and temp controls were foiled before I painted it and then I removed the paint with some lacquer thinner. Figured it would be cleaner to do it that way - I only use the molotow for touch ups and tiny details if I have to

DEFINITELY getting a roadster next

Superb build, Ryan - these kits may be tough to cpmplete, but they are very rewarding and result in excellent models as you proof here.

( I have 19 Enthusiast kits in my stash, among them 4 different 356's, but the only one I'v built so far was a Dino 246 GT)

Wow! Amazing interior and engine.

I've never built a Fujimi kit but that will be happening in the near future based on your build..

The guys up top basically said it. I used a 63 as reference and the kit matches up pretty darn closely, so that’s what I’m calling it. Could easily be a 64 though too

The 356C was built from 1963 through 1965, and all are virtually identical visually (except for tiny variations only a hard-core Porschephile would spot), so this model could be anywhere in there.

But what makes this model more special is the 4-cam 2-liter "Carrera" engine.

The "bustle" under the rear bumper is the only big giveaway it's a Carrera-engined 356.

It was a very expensive car new, around $8000 US (about twice the cost of its 1600cc pushrod-engined brothers), and would be worth in the vicinity of a million bucks today.

I want one so badly. This is the closest I’ll ever come lol

It's still possible to build a very nice fiberglass replica for reasonable money.

If you build it on an IRS VW pan, a replica can out-handle a real one, and if you use a built VW engine putting out more than 130HP, it can out-run a real one.   B)

Just saw your roadster on another post…what a beaut. When I do another one, I’ll probably use the same color combo. Love it.

Great looking 356 Ryan. You said you will get more detailed on the next one?????  Pretty darn detailed on this one!!?

Haha thanks - I had a few ideas for additions under the hood and in the engine bay but was worried about final fitment so I wimped out. Next time!!
