THE STEPCHILD - a 32 Ford under British influence

This model has been a rollercoaster. First off it started kinda by accident. I wanted to build a nice B400 for many years and I finally started doing one. This model was a second JF body I had, on which I wanted to experiment with some ideas, instead of messing up the good body I wanted to use. (this one had some issues). It was also build under very tight deadline, as I wanted it complete for the model show in Louisville held yesterday, the 16th, which I end up not making actually. 

Anyway....

The chassis, fenders, grille shell and drivetrain are from Revell's 32 Ford 5 Window.

The hoods are from Revell 32 Ford 3 window with modified dash from same kit.

Wheels and tires are from Revell 32 Ford Roadster, the original issue.

Interior floor and both front and rear seats are from Revell 32 Ford Speedwagon. The rest of the interior is scratch built from Evergreen Styrene sheets of different thickness and patterns with many of the photoetched pieces that come from Model Car Garage's detail set for the Speedwagon, including the grille. 

The grille surround was made from jewelry wire.

The engine valve covers and air filter are resin/photo etch set from Model Car Garage.

Paint is Tamiya TS-3 Dark yellow for the drivetrain with clear coat; Tamiya TS-43 Racing Green (not to be confused with British Racing green) followed by Tamiya TS-65 Pearl Clear ( a mistake IMHO) and the interior is SEM Portola Red. All of them come in spray cans, which were decanted and shot through an airbrush. Body parts received 2K clear. 

I have been wanting to do a green on red street rod for a while. It is a classic British combo which also prompted the yellow headlights, as fog is something else that is very British. LOL

I love this car. Very unexpected for the style, and it makes it a real standout. Love the simplicity and the impact it creates. I would probably gone without the billet accessories under the hood even. Still very cool.

Rusty, I wanted the car to have a very traditional feel, but in the same time be like something that would have come out of Brizio's shop if I had the means to ask him for a "simple" daily driver B400. So I thought to add some simple "off the shelf" sparkle under the hood.

Thank you. The frame was C-notched quite a bit at the front and there was not much spring left on top of the axle to make it sit that low. The front bumper exaggerates the stance further.

the interior is what it was all about. I needed a testbed for the B400 I was actually building.

Hi Michael!

Very nice! The dark yellow combo with the British green is perfect. But I'm mostly impressed with your grille surround. I've built a few in 1/1 scale for 32's and 33's, and it is a chore, so your rendition is impressive. Bravo!

Jimmy Flintstone makes the body, but it comes with the top molded on and it is a rough casting on the inside. What you see here took a lot of work to look decent on the inside. The cool part is that the body is available pretty much from anyone selling JF bodies and on his site and it is cheap - only $10.

This turned out very nice! What a very distinctive color combo. Love it! The effort you put into this to get the interior to work in that resin body is impressive.

There is a lot you can learn by coming to this forum and your B400 is a classic example of this fact.  I have built ( and struggled) with a number of Jimmy Flintstone bodies before and have the B400 in my to-do list.  Your build thread on how you removed the roof and dealt with the thick casting will be a massive help when I start mine.

I have learned a lot of stuff on here. Info on different modeling subjects, new techniques, different tools and materials and countless ideas and inspirations. This is a place that is a never-ending well of information and inspiration and this is why I keep on coming back even after long periods away from the hobby.

That stance is the reason I added the bumpers as they exaggerate the rake even more. Plus they add to the British feel I was after.

Man, that is GREEN! Took me a couple of times coming back to get used to it but given the sort of coach built appearance of the B400 I think it works. The aftermarket Edelbrock details on the engine are really neat. 
 

Are you planning to go back and paint the running boards black? Are you going to add the soft top?

I was not expecting that. This was done very well. I like the rake and dig the yellow lights. And of course the British green paint.
