TooOld Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 The first Red Baron I built was in 1968 , it was my first Tom Daniel kit and is still my favorite . This time around I wanted to maintain the out of box look but still add a few personal touches . I started by swapped the kit tires for ones from my parts box along with white letter decals from Fireball Modelworks , then I replaced the front axle with the poseable chrome parts from a Revell Street T kit . Lastly I modified the helmet by adding a skirt around the base and decorating it similar to a WWI German Helmet . Along with filling the seams and painting the fuel tank I added some gauges and pedals to the interior , the rest of the build is box stock . A little BMF on the console and some wash on the engine and machine guns is the only other detailing . The paint is Tamiya TS-85 Bright Red Mica and TS-14 Black , both topped with Tamiya TS-13 Clear . This was a quick build and I had some fun with it . I hope you like it and thanks for looking ! 5
70 Sting Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 The kit should be reissued with your build on the cover. ? 2
David G. Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Fantastic idea for the helmet! ? It looks so much better than the chrome one. Where did you get the Alder badge and crosses? I have seen a few versions of this kit built and yours is quite probably the best one. I love to build one of these myself as a companion to my Mummy Machine. Well Done! David G.

After painting the helmet black I used BMF then added my own decals printed on clear decal paper . 2
espo Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 I like the way you personalized this build. The added details really make this stand out. Having never built this kit I was wondering what engine the kits engine represents.

Thanks for the example photos Bob, it's great to see the process you used. It all looks like it came out of the box that way. Again, excellent work! David G.

Bainford Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Very cool take on the Red Baron rod. I really like the helmet treatment, much nicer than the all chrome kit piece.
