Paul Payne Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Been working on this- added dual rear tires, a 50 Ford engine and tranny with Offy heads and 3 carbs for more power. Cut open the rear doors and will pose the windshield open. Tires are from a 1/32 scale big rig. Rear fenders from sheet styrene, wider for the tires. Second of who knows how many Blue Ox Salvage trucks (first one was the 46 Dodge Power Wagon). 4
Paul Payne Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Thumbs up from Ace means a lot! Will post more as I get more done! 1
Joe Nunes Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Good looking model project you have going here. ? Joe
Zippi Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) That's a good looking 37 Panel truck project. Reminds me of the Keystone Cops. Edited March 9, 2023 by Zippi
Paul Payne Posted March 9, 2023 Author Posted March 9, 2023 Thanks, guys! Will post pix of the beginnings of the bike here soon!
Sam I Am Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Looking good. What bike are you planning on using?
Paul Payne Posted March 9, 2023 Author Posted March 9, 2023 The bike is a Maisto HD knucklehead I disassembled. It will be rebuilt as a weathered bobber.
Paul Payne Posted March 9, 2023 Author Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) Here's a pic of the HD knucklehead bobber which is part of the project- inspired by bikes at the T.R.O.G. Dechromed wheels and front tire from cherry bomb, fishtails from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. Edited March 9, 2023 by Paul Payne 1
slusher Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Great project, awesome looking bike!, How did you do the rear dual wheels ? in pairs.
espo Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Great looking combination. Like the duel rear wheel and tire setup.
Paul Payne Posted March 10, 2023 Author Posted March 10, 2023 I glued two rims together for the interior rims and ground the protruding rim off. Then I used the kit rims for the external and internal portions.
tim boyd Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Paul - Lovin' that Bobber so far....where did you get the frame for it (or did you scratch it???) (Maisto die cast???) TIM ....
Paul Payne Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 Tim, it is indeed a Maisto- only the engine, tank, and fenders are die cast- everything else is plastic- sort of a cross between styrene and vinyl- wheels and front tire from the Cherry Bomb, rear tire from the 37 Ford panel truck, new handle bars are jumbo paper clip wire with rubber tubing for the grips- hoping to slip in bent wire for the brake and throttle levers, and thin wire for the cables. the worst part of the Maisto bike is that the air cleaner was molded all the way into the jugs and what would have been the carb.
Paul Payne Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 Got the truck on the frame and additional detailing done- windshield is posed as though cranked out- only need to add the water hoses and its done. The bobber has had weathering done to the engine and wheels and the grooves in the gas tank where the shifter was mounted have been filled, then painted. Working on the shift gate- very fiddly, and the first attempt broke, so will try again with thicker stock. Here are some pix, Harley behind the truck is for reconstruction reference, with more coming as I get more done! 2
Paul Payne Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 Thanks, Al! This is the first motorcycle model I have ever worked on, so lots of new territory!
Paul Payne Posted March 16, 2023 Author Posted March 16, 2023 Got the truck and the bike done! Pix! Might try running cables for brakes and throttle on the bike, but that will need a little more ambition! An unaltered Maisto knucklehead in the background for contrast.

Thanks for the info Paul. Very creative choice for that rear tire, too! TB
Straightliner59 Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 What a fantastic project! I love everything about it! Beautiful work, Paul.
