6bblbird Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Definitely my most challenging BMF project to date. My eyesight and nerves will never be the same after this one! I didn't realize how badly the chassis was warped until final assembly. If you build one of these, make sure to test fit everything before you try to make it pretty! This truck was going to be a push truck for a fuel dragster. The front push bar never happened. This truck is also proof that I build subjects other than Mopars! 10
Sam I Am Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Nice color combo, and clean build. '59s are one of my favorites.
Rattlecan Dan Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Did a great job on the foil. And on the build as well.
Doug 1061 Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Very nice. You'll be pit stop quick at foiling after that. My foil skills got much better after building a 59 Ford Skyliner.
ea0863 Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Beautifully done Walter, although I suspect under the hood there is a 383 Chrysler hemi! BTW, I've had good luck with 3M foil tape #3311 I bought at Autozone as an alternative to usual BMF. It's a bit thicker and I find it easier to work with. Plus, it's cheaper. And I've become a big fan of Mototow pens. Just food for thought if you haven't already played with these.
Bills72sj Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Nice ElCo. The wheels look like Hurst mags. Did they come with the kit?
espo Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Beautiful looking El Camino. The color looks like the optional bronze color offered at that time. These can use up a lot of chrome foil, but that was the way they were.
happy grumpy Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Great job on the Camino. The harder the work the more rewarding. Now you have something beautiful to look at while your nerves recover. ??

In fact, there are a number of large parts that just don’t fit to my satisfaction.
6bblbird Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 Notice the twist in the body and the amount of air under the right front tire! I’ll fix it one day…..maybe
karbuildr Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Very nice build, great job on the foiling. I like the two tone color combo.
Bainford Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Real shame about that chassis twist. Beautiful El Camino, and the foil work is top notch.
Sidney Schwartz Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 You did a much better job with the foiling than I usually manage. Beautiful model.
ncbuckeye67 Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Your work on this is amazing! I have a '69 Camaro convertible with the same issue (it's in my "maybe later" pile).
atomicholiday Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Twisted frame aside, that is one gorgeous build. Excellent job!?
jdhog Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Nailed it. I tend to shy away from cars with a lot of chrome, but it's always a satisfying feeling when you knock one out. Great build.
Lunajammer Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 My best friend has a stainless polishing business and he was tasked to repair and polish all the stainless trim on a '59 Impala. He said there was more than 200-feet of trim on that car. I have to believe the Elky has at least that much. Nice work laying down 200 scale feet of BMF.
Zippi Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Nicely done. I didn't think all the foil work would ever end when I built mine.
