ChrisBcritter Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 AMT XR-6 was a one-and-done, right? Same with the '66 Craftsman T-bird - I think that's the only case where the tool is known to still exist? Of course the 1911 Chevy touring was probably the best-known one-off.
Snake45 Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Aurora Aston-Martin "Super Spy Car" was one and done, far as I know. AMT Sonny & Cher Mustang. Wasn't the Monogram Tom Daniel '73 Vette only issued once before it was altered into something else? AMT '65 Chevelle Craftsman. As previously mentioned, most of the old annuals were one-time-only before they were changed into the next year's model, or a custom, or a funny car, or something. As far as I know, the "panel wagon" top for the C2 Sting Ray roadster was exclusive to the '67 annual kit. The molds were modified into a '63, which was reissued many times, but that panel top has been missing for 50+ years.
Mr. Metallic Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Maybe this thread should focus on kits that were truly only issued one time and never re-released or modified into anything else? For example the Monogram Land Rover and AMT 1911 Chevy.

My guess is that something like the Land Rover’s tooling still exists and could be reissued should the market demand. Something like a Johan ‘66 Chrysler 300 was produced only in 1966, and literally has no chance of ever being issued again as a mass produced plastic kit. Steve 4

Note that I mentioned C-10 , as it's the only 2WD iteration of the beloved Squarebody from the entire MPC (et al.) annual series of 1978-c.1982. I'd vote for this one too! I wonder if the 2WD parts are still on the mold and just blocked off. I'd love to see them do a release with the parts to do a stock 2WD. 1

I'd be keen on a reissue - maybe with additional options : seating comes to mind - with an expanded decal sheet, and with steel wheels with hubcaps.
Robberbaron Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 Think this one qualifies: don't think Revell ever reissued the '69 Dart after their initial mid-90s release. Every version since then has been a '68 (Mr. Norm's GSS, Dick Landy drag car, then finally the still available Hemi Dart 2 in 1). My first thought was that this is a rare "modern" example, but I think we're closing in on thirty years since this one was originally released. 1

Got it at a yard sale. the box had three cabs, and three glass, and several chevy, and gmc grills, and bumpers. One body became a donor to a crew cab 4x4 gmc, and the main truck replaced the Deserter gmc body. The 78 came with a bench seat, while the Deserter GMC came with buckets, and a ceter console, so I was able to use the bench for the back seat on the crew cab. The 78 decals were cleared, but turned out to be junk, so I hand painted it to match a mid 70s option package I saw pics of. 1

Another one that stands a good chance of revival as there's a good chance that at least a fair portion of the tooling still exists. Another group of kits that interests me that seemed to disappear into the ether were the MPC 1965/'66 full sized Dodge kits. The '65 Monaco and 880 convertible, and the '66 Monaco and Polara Convertible. All very rare kits to say the least. I wonder if the tooling still exists for any of these for a possible re-issue. Something makes me think that any of them could be a pretty popular release. Steve Edited October 28, 2023 by StevenGuthmiller 2
Dave Van Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 Way back....................AMT ZZR...................was later cut up for firebug 2
Mark Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 The Monaco body was heavily modified to produce the Magnum GT II kit. That kit has a different interior, so no telling if it was new or altered from the original unit. The underbody parts are pretty much unchanged though. I'm surprised the Magnum never resurfaced after it's only issue. MPC had a habit of bringing things like that back in the Eighties.

Mark Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 The Land Rover being the "short" one might have something to do with no reissues, though you'd think Revell of Germany would have had that out at some point. With the new one they have, now there's no need for the Monogram one. Maybe Atlantis has it, in which case licensing might be a thing. With that probably being the only such item they have, it probably isn't a high priority for them right now. Other Monogram kits never reissued could include the Uncertain T and Futurista. Both appeared in two boxes each, but were in continuous production so they could be considered one issue with a rebox along the way.

If wholesalers were offering them up for a buck, they apparently weren’t flying off of the shelves. It’s tough to justify a re-pop when the first round wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. Steve
