1959scudetto Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 (edited) 2 years ago I acquired a bunch of builtup kits mainly for parts - among them was this ultra-rare ESCI Montecarlo turbo kit - at first glance it looked almost complete and I ordered some decals for the 1980 DRM (= Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft/German Racing Championship) winning car of former European touring car champion Hans Heyer, beating Hans Joachim Stuck in his BMW 320 turbo for the title. This is the original kit (internet picture) This arrived per mail: When I found out that several parts were missing, I went for a curbside and glued the engine cover shut. Missing parts like mirrors, wheel hubs and wiper came from the parts box, wheels and glass were intact. After disassembling and stripping the paint, it was sprayed with Tamiya TS10 French Blue. I added wire mesh in front of the rear wheels, the wing supports and in the back above the exhaust pipes. Front spoiler struts and tow hook were made from steel wire, Dzus fasteners came from a MCG photo-etched sheet, decals from Patto's place and Sam's diecast art. This is the final result: Edited December 17, 2023 by 1959scudetto 5
Bruce Scully Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Nice work saving this . Esci kits are hard work , this looks great . 1
ismaelg Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 That's a very nice rescue. It looks GREAT! 1
Rich Chernosky Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Good save Helmut...very creative. Glue bombs are a real test of a modelers talent. You passed with an A+
iBorg Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 I'd really love to see this kit built to a high level.....I remember one being started on the forum.
iBorg Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I just re-read my earlier post. First off, this is a really nice build of a fidgety kit. Congrats. I've got one waiting to be built and those screens on the rear wing are accurate and a challenge to get shaped will. As for my comment about seeing one built to a high level, it was intended as a gently nudge to someone who was doing an amazing job on one a few years ago to finish it..... 1
Dave B Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Helmut, that's a great save, it looks awesome in Fruit of The Loom sponsorship. Dave B 1

You passed with an A+ Thank you Rich - I did not go very much into detailing here (only a little wire mesh on the outside) so it could pass as an "OK shelf model".

Mike, that's what I would like to see also - as I had no instructions at all, I found the WIP on this forum hoping to get more information about this kit. While the modeler did a very nice job here, it seems to have stalled long ago... I'm with you, it would be nice to see one built at high level...
Pierre Rivard Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Looks really good Helmut. My interest with race cars is more pre-1970 but these group 5 cars look wicked! Gotta keep an eye for these old ESCI kits, some interesting subjects in need of a bit of love.

Thank you Pierre - I too prefer sports and race cars from the 1960's - but this was a cheap occasion, and I always had a soft spot for Italian sportscars. Edited January 14, 2024 by 1959scudetto
