I have no idea what I want to do with it yet.

My friend Phil's Mustang definitely fits the Restomod theme! 513 cubic inch twin turbocharged fire breathing dragon!

Excellent choice Carl!  That will make a great restomod.

Yesterday I started trimming parts.  It’s been a crazy busy week for me, and I haven’t gotten much done, but things should start to settle down now.

Also, got the wheels I plan to use today.  I went with Pegasus Shuey’s.  Not crazy about how low profile the tires are, so I’ll be using the kit supplied tires to fill the wheel wells better.  Front tire will fit the new rim perfectly if I cut out the ridge inside the tire.  The back tire is too big so I'll need to figure out how to create a sleeve or something.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Here’s a rough mock up with the Pegasus tires.

I didn't have anything in mind for this year's Cannonball, but after picking up this Cannonball kit I just had to enter it.

It came with this cool map of the Cannonball route and some info about the rally. Between Google translate and my Japanese grandma, I was able to get most of it translated.

ZJzkWZW.jpeg

The instructions came with diagrams on how to wire up the motor and led lights, but it didn't come with the motor or lights, so I guess I don't have to worry about any of that.

wMRV3Le.jpeg

This is all the stuff it came with for the batteries and to wire everything that I won't be using. It even came with a toothpick and a small tube of glue.

AP9P8hT.jpeg

It has opening doors, hood and headlights.

k65bhI7.jpeg

It's a semi-curbside kit, with only the top of the engine. The molded in detail looks pretty nice though.

Maybe you could take all that molded-in engine out and put in a dual turbo LS3 and watch Ferraristas' heads explode! Just kidding, Ferrari would probably put you on their blacklist and you'd never be able to buy a real Ferrari.

Finally here.  My entry is official.

Going to bash a lot of it with a 67 kit for better detail, especially in the chassis.

I think I've found my starter kit, this Monogram 1997 Ford Expedition.

Well, I think I've found my chassis donor. I remember having a box of 90s-2000 era F-150 kits including a 2000 Lightning, but I can only find the AMT early 90s F-150 kits. I did find a nice Fast N Furious Lightning, but that probably won't help. I gave up and ordered a 1997 Flareside kit off the 'Bay, so of course I came across this one ten minutes later. I may use the kit I ordered and save the Harley kit because it is complete. This Harley kit does seem to have the same front bumper as the Lightning, so I could use that. I wonder if anyone has done a Cannonball while towing a trailer? LOL

Got all my aftermarket pieces in. Might have to find different tires for the rotiform roc wheels, the tires look a little chunky to me

I did a little research on the cars, and they seem to be the first two of a commissioned two hundred by VW. The project was canceled, however, and only these two were ever built. Further research showed that, when they were offered for sale in the USA, they were 50 state legal for road use. Therefore, it would be eligible for this year's Cannonball.

The factory tires look good and you might like the t kit tires and wheels more afte primer or paint mock ups. You have plenty of time ahead to make changes…

Well that was considerably more work than I remember the only other time I opened a trunk... Those attachments posts didn't help matters any.

Have now put cutter to sprue on my 240ZG, couldn't resist starting to check it out now I've got some detail parts starting to arrive:

IMG_9236.JPG.72804d43475c2cb515c61810d4175b40.JPG

Contents of the very well-detailed kit, plus spare assembled RB engine for mock-up purposes, Hobby Design detail set and a couple of wheel choices. Also the remnants of a period Datsun colour that I had mixed-up a few years ago, and got a fresh can of it done this morning.

IMG_9244.JPG.361d5f22ad610876266bc261b3ad37c8.JPG

The newer RB straight-six is of similar physical size to the long-running L-series. I need to remove the transfer case, driveshafts etc as this particular one comes from a 4wd Skyline R32, and I think I may have to swap the sump round so the pan is at the back. I will actually build-up a fresh engine and 'box from my stash.

The RB swap looks to be relatively commonplace at 1:1 so I'm not attempting something too silly.

IMG_9249.JPG.c5a8ca0f972b40afa2a7e6ae97db8a97.JPG

If I can get the brakes to fit, and possibly find some slightly chunkier tyres, these are the wheels I'm hoping to use. They are a Gotti wheel which look good on 1:1 Zs, I'll be painting them gunmetal which should sit nicely with the Ochre bodywork (dirty yellow?!). Note the hubs with the 4-stud fixing, with alternative male/female fitments.

I have seen hi-po brake kits for Zs still running small wheels, so it should be feasible to run the 15s above.

The alternative wheel is a 16" cross-spoke style, might keep them for a 280ZX build.

IMG_9250.JPG.b15567925d6cf177b0b8417f03a75b20.JPG

Well-stocked detail set. Not all will be of use as some of it is for the standard L24 engine, and it may be beyond my skillset and eyesight!, but I'm hoping I can add some of it to good effect.

IMG_9248.JPG.43ce9c91f856ce97ba218fa64359e712.JPG

The body sits very nicely on the floorpan and I had to try it on the Gotti wheels. The arch flares will be fitted to cover their extra width. Note the separate tailgate and fuel filler flap.

IMG_9255.JPG.610a72bc9c2d3caf5592ffcb8882be58.JPG

Also thought it would be interesting to see how the old Monogram 280Z compares - it's much more simplistic, but the basic look is still there.

Sneak preview of the colour I'll be using on the RH front fender and scuttle panel....

yup, and the guy that imported them got refused twice when he bought them so they sat in holland for about 5 years. A guy called jamie orr ended up doing a lot of research on them so they could be imported under the 25 year rule and they arrived on volkwagens own car carrier due to jamie having a very close relationship with vw. If you've ever read performance vw magazine jamie is the source for a lot of very rare parts and is well known for having a fleet of rare and unusual vws, such as a both of the concepts checker had made up on diesel mk1s and an inline vr6 fox among others.

Well I have narrowed it down to a couple ideas. Just have to find the other one. then decide.

off topic, In my searching. I found my Revell 66 Satellite 4 door Hemi 4 speed car I was looking for, for over a year. Now I can redo the body.

Raided the AMT ‘70 Chevelle kit I was fortunate enough to have in the stash and swiped the EFI setup and valve covers for my wagon.  That should make for a more reliable road beast.

The resin hood should be here tomorrow too.

@Fat Brian Thanks for the heads up on these parts.

I am in! I am going to update Dom's 71 GTX into a high speed, long hauler. I have already hacked in a bigger fuel tank and found an IRS that practically fell into place. I also want a more modern engine for power and fuel mileage. Unfortunately, when I cracked open my sealed AMT 2010 Dodge Challenger... IT DOES NOT HAVE AN ENGINE! After some research. I have a 3D printed Hellcat on the way.

I used that setup in my 67 Impala but changed the top to make it resemble the early Vette injection. I think some kind of change like that would make it a nicer setup IMHO.
