THarrison351 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 My son gave this to me to build a while ago. I knew it was not going to be an easy kit and I wasn't disappointed. A lot of detail and features in this ancient model, but obvious items are missing. There is no interior mirror and a master cylinder with brake booster should be under the hood. I had nothing in my spares, so I went without. Paint is Tamiya gloss aluminum, metallic red, and light sand. Not exactly factory correct, but close enough for me. I have another one that I plan to build in the future as a 1964 version. Thanks for looking! I'm so happy they tooled up factory mags. The old deep dish slots that are still included, never looked good to me. For those that might be building this, the vents on the left side cowl on the raised bump, should not be there. I didn't realize it until I started detailing and foiling. Other than some slight flash, a few sink holes, and the parting lines, the clean up and mock up went well. It was the engine that eventually threw a wrench in the works. The oil pan or something makes it sit way too high. 14 1
NOBLNG Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 It looks really great Tim!? I recently picked one up at a flea market that I want to build soon…so thanks for the heads up on some issues.?
TarheelRick Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 (edited) That is one beautiful Avanti, the silver paint really works well with that sexy body. The only issue I have, and it does not reflect on this build, is the bumpers appear to be too wide and stick out past the body a bit too much. They are especially noticeable on your front and rear close-up shots. That interior work is excellent. Edited April 21, 2024 by TarheelRick
Phildaupho Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Very well built. Beautiful model of beautiful car. I have had one in my stash for decades but will definitely get built some day. I feel in love with the Avanti since the first time I saw one when they were brand new.
Ragtop Man Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Oh, baby. That is dead solid perfect. Much straighter than they ever left the factory! Nice job. 1
thatz4u Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 best build of the kit I've seen in a long while, great detail, well done..
o-man Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 You did a fine job on what apparently is a tough kit
espo Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Beautiful looking paint finish and color. The interior two tone treatment looks great and well detailed as is the engine. I agree with you about the kits dish slot wheels, save those for another project.
Kah puts Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 I had no idea this kit could look so good, brilliant ?
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Very attractive model, and that fine-grained silver really brings out the subtle sculpting of the body. The interior colors work very well with it, look European.
Yeah Nah Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Striking, sharp build Tim. Great job on the brightwork.
XYHARRY Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Tim, your Avanti looks amazing in that colour combo, very regal. Really well done. Cheers, David. ??
ncbuckeye67 Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 That's an outstanding build, sir! Your paint looks amazing, I love that silver (I use it a lot for a base coat). I appreciate all the info you put in this post, as I plan on building one of these kits myself soon.
happy grumpy Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 This is a challenging kit for sure, I've had this kit for 6 years and I keep putting off. You did a great job on it. The colors look great and the interior is awesome. Might give me the push to start mine.
Bugatti Fan Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Nice model. A very futuristic looking car in its day.
Rattlecan Dan Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Very nice build. Very sharp looking. Nice job.
Bainford Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Nice looking Avanti. Such unique and interesting cars, quite striking in 1:1, as is your model. The silver looks great. Nice work. I have had one in my stash for many years, trying to figure out what to do with it. Seeing yours, I'm thinking it's time I dug it out and put it on the bench.
