STU111 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) G’day everyone, Here’s another build of mine. This was my fourth car build and boy, didn’t this one put up a fight! Should’ve realised it was a bad omen when l opened the box and the body was warped and the roof had a slight indent in it. After repairing that, the back window wouldn’t fit properly and the interior assembly had to be trimmed in a couple of places to fit. If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m a big fan of the gen2 Camaro/ Firebird series, I would’ve done Hulk smash and binned it. Must’ve got a bad copy l guess or something l did wrong, but I persevered and this is how it turned out, finished in Tamiya TS-21 gold as it was closest to factory Autumn gold. With TS -13 clear. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Stu. Edited July 10, 2024 by STU111 Typo 9
ncbuckeye67 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 You have created something beautiful, out of a not so good, very old kit. That is amazing!
Jim B Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 You fought the good fight and came out on top. Well done. Good looking Camaro.
XYHARRY Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Nice Camaro there Stu, I have the AMT Baldwin motion Camaro and have heard they have a few out of box issues. Yours looks great and deserving of your perseverance. Well done mate. Cheers, David. ??
NOBLNG Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Beautiful, nice clean build Stu.? Yes, there are fit issues with the interior and glass on these Camaros.?
DanL Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Really nice work considering what you had to deal with. My pick as the worst fitting kit ever and I built 2 of them Cheers DanL 1
TarheelRick Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Looks to me as if you handled the kit issues very well. That is one beautiful Camaro (from a hardcore Mustang fan).
happy grumpy Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Great efforts yield great results. Even without any warpage, this a difficult kit. The wrap around body sure doesn't help. You did an excellent job, it sure looks gorgeous. As for the warped body, out of the last 5 kits I bought , 3 had minor to major warpage. Looks like they don't want to wait for the plastic to cool off before packaging it. Ah well !
espo Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 You would never know the fight the body gave you. All the body lines look great, and the paint color and finish go well together.
karbuildr Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Very nice color and a good looking build. This kit has always been problematic and seemed to have numerous build/warp, ill fitting parts issues. Yours came out very well done.
DJMar Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 That looks fantastic. I really love the gold. I'm not a fan of gold (usually) but it looks great on this Z. Also, having built two of these kits over the years, you're not alone in your frustration. It is not an easy kit to get together.
Dragonhawk1066 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Very nice work! I just did one in gold myself!
Rattlecan Dan Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 About as sweet-looking as any I've seen of that Camaro build. No signs of ill-fitting or warp at all. Great job!

STU111 Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 G’day everyone, thank you for your kind words on what was probably the most frustrating build I’ve done to date. Nice to know some of you guys are familiar with this kit and that there are some fit issues with it and that it wasn’t all down to me. It hasn’t put me off building another one, I’d like to do a split bumper version at some point to go with this one. Cheers, Stu.
