There's a good possibility, David. Proportionally, it's much better. It's a blood relative. 3 hours ago, LennyB said: Good process on the bumper, I think that should work good. But the overrides might get pissed you cut them out, I hear they’re a mean group of bikers🚳 It's how I work, Lenny. Lots of CA and kicker, then spraying dust all over the room. Did I mention I bought a great stick-vac? It gets a lot of use these days.
customline Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 Bumper update: this is the one 😀 Tucked in tight and pinned. Now I need to get it smooth. Smooth enough for chrome. Thanks for stopping by 🧑🎄 3
LennyB Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 By golly it fits 😲 That deserved a $35 can of spray paint.
Can-Con Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Ya know, Jim, Spotlight Hobbies now offers a plating service. They'll do a 6X8 frame for the same price as a can of Revell chrome. ,,Just say'n. Digg'n that new back bumper BTW. 2

I've had success with Alclad and it's good enough for this train wreck. 2
espo Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I agree with everyone on the rear bumper. You have shaped it so that the top edge of the bumper matches the shape of the rear body perfectly.

Bullybeef Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Speaking of bumpers, you gonna get back to work on this? A light nudge or bump as it were.
LennyB Posted February 21 Posted February 21 He's hung up trying to figure out what 41 Plymouth parts he can fit into it. 1
customline Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 On the back burner, waiting for weather to warm up. Y'all know how this goes.

Jay Whittaker Posted March 4 Posted March 4 These shoeboxes are addictive aren't they?? So many choices for mods, grilles, bumpers.... You could build these a hundred times and have no two alike. It's been fun watching the progress on this, it's coming together swell and I'm looking forward to it coming to completion. I agree with you wholeheartedly about lengthening the roof line into the Tudor configuration to get the Merc look. I recently (OK, about 4 years ago) stretched the roof on mine for the very same reason. I need to get my butt in gear and finish it. Shoebox Central's mascot car was the inspiration for mine, so I'm keeping the stock '50 grille. I finally got it in paint a couple months ago: 1956 Ford Sunset Coral. I can't find the pics to it ATM, but when I do I'd like to share them with your permission. I may have missed it, but what color are you going with on this one?

Hey, Jay, you probably totally forgot about this but you had the last word back in March so it's only fitting I answer your last question first. LAVENDER 🥴 Also you are welcome to post pix of your shoebox; I would like to see it and I'm sure they would too. I painted it yesterday afternoon. The temp was high 80s, RH was around 50%. The paint is Tamiya lacquer, color "Lavender". I thought it was appropriate for an early '50s sled. Not so sure now. This morning I polished out the hood but I'm not liking it. I'm going to wait on the body before attempting to polish it out. I think it may be still too soft. It feels like it's ready but maybe not. Anyway, here's the mock-ups 👇🥴 2
TarheelRick Posted Sunday at 05:20 PM Posted Sunday at 05:20 PM Nice looking sled, really like the changes you have made and that color looks good on it. Need to get off my behind and finish my '50 Vert.
espo Posted Sunday at 05:36 PM Posted Sunday at 05:36 PM Interesting color. Some wet sanding and a couple of clear coats maybe even some pin striping? The body side chrome will also enhance the appearance.

I'll give it a week and then try the rub-out on the body. The hood should probably get painted again. We shall see. Edited Sunday at 07:55 PM by customline
