I'm in the midst of a little push to see if I can get my P-61 Black Widow completed for the year so most of my bench time has been devoted to that. Even still, I've managed to get a little work done on other builds; namely my 1937 Cord. A quick color check. Tamiya TS-93 Pure Blue with Tamiya TS-7 Racing White for the interior. I like the blue but I'm not entirely sure about the white. I'm thinking about something a little darker... a little creamier. The blue is pretty much locked in but I'm open to suggestions for the interior. I want a light color. Off-white, no tan or black. Maybe a pale blue... maybe. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post your comments. David G. David, how about a light grey for the interior. Grey plays well with blue. And I would probably weather it slightly to bring out the ribs in the upholstery.

Which is kind of what the Cord is all about. Something very much like the leather in these mittens. Thanks, David G.
customline Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Just curious, but what would be the purpose of "work mittens" other than for a non-smoker not drinking coffee while taking a break?? I never understood mittens 😒. The color is good though, rich looking. Definitely works with dark blue. 🧑🎄
rattle can man Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Mittens keep your fingers warmer. All of the fingers are in one pocket of warm air instead of being individually exposed to cold air. Yes you lose dexterity, but you don't lose fingers to frostbite. 1

Thumb gets the short end of the stick😫

The thumb gets the cold shoulder…but as soon as there is work to be done that involves more than pecking at the cellphone…he’s the first one they call on.🙄 (sorry Dave, but the mitten pic started it.😳)
LennyB Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 That’s what happens when you cut the cord (pun intended) and let us kids run amok. 🤪 I guess after that we’re all getting coal tomorrow. 🥹 Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Tried to find a yellow interior but I failed😭

mustang1989 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 This beauty is coming along verrry nicely so far Dave. I like the ivory top that you're looking at too and was just wondering if you're are going ahead with the red for the interior?
David G. Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Thank you Joe. I've selected Tamiya TS-46 Light Sand as the primary color for the top and upholstery. It's not exactly the color I had in mind but it's close enough. I'll probably throw in some blue accents, maybe a navy blue carpet. I have a little work done with that but not yet enough to make an interesting update. So... soon. Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it Joe. =D- 1
Anglia105E Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Great choice of interior and exterior paint colours David . . . Some nice bits of good humour in there with the mittens comments ! Hope you enjoyed a good Christmas, and Happy New Year to you and yours . . . Outside temperatures are dropping to -2°C here tomorrow morning, and rising to no higher than 2°C during Thursday. Good luck with this Cord build, and I shall surprise you shortly with my current ongoing project . . . David W.

Yeah, sometimes it's like I have my own personal comedy troupe following me around. I had a delightful and uneventful holiday season, thank you. I hope yours was pleasant as well. Two below is a bit cold for your part of the world, are you expecting any snow? I do look forward to seeing what you're brewing up David, I'll be sure to keep an eye out. Thanks again and I wish you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025. David G.

David G. Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 (edited) Hello Everybody! With my push to get the P-61 completed by year's end I haven't totally forgotten about the 1937 Cord. I've selected Tamiya TS-46 Light Sand as the primary color for the top and upholstery. I think the colors will work well together. Thank you all for your suggestions. The next item on my list was to have a look at the famous hideaway headlights to see if I could find a way to make them operable. My first thought was to make a fulcrum for the roll down headlights to roll down upon. I drilled one out and inserted a wire where I thought it would provide the best pivot point. After many attempts I concluded that the plastic in the fender and the headlight cover were both too thick to allow for a single pivot point that would permit the headlight assembly to roll through the opening in the fender. Due to the thickness of the headlight cover and the shallowness of the headlight bucket, the headlight assembly would not only have to roll up but slide forward and upward to arrive in the proper opened position. To make the headlights functional I would have to reduce the thickness of the headlight cover and the fender while creating a mechanism that moved on two or three axes in sequence. Right now, that's a bit beyond my skill level. And it's a bit more work than I want to do for this build. On to the next activity! As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post any comments you may wish to share. David G. Edited January 3 by David G. typo 4
LennyB Posted January 3 Posted January 3 It would be cool if you could get those headlights to pivot but I can see the challenge in it. Wonder how they function on the real thing.
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 3 Posted January 3 https://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/behind-the-hidden-headlamps-of-the-cord-810-812/ I also found a video showing them being operated by hand. Looks like they pivot near the rear of the pod.
Zippi Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Yeah, those headlights do look a little tricky. The build is looking good though David and I like the TS-46 Light Sand. 1

Wonder how they function on the real thing. Yeah, I had to give it a shot Len. Like I said, it's a bit more work than I'm willing and able to do right now. I've discovered that one of the keys to life is effective management of one's own expectations. 21 hours ago, TopherMcGinnis said: https://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/behind-the-hidden-headlamps-of-the-cord-810-812/ I also found a video showing them being operated by hand. Looks like they pivot near the rear of the pod. Thanks for the link Topher, there is some fascinating information there. One of the obstacles is that the model kit headlight proportions don't relate well to their real-world counterparts. This makes finding the proper pivot point a matter of trial and error rather than relying on the prototype example. There also seems to be some issues with the model itself. According to @lordairgtar On 11/18/2024 at 3:59 PM, lordairgtar said: I think part of that error with the head lamp doors was the the first issue of that kit had operating doors that opened and shut. When they simplified the molding, thry got rid of that feature and the shape got wonky. There was no excuse for the louver situation. I did do a quick online search to see if I could find the directions for the edition of the kit mentioned above, but no luck. Having an example to work from would have been exceedingly helpful. At that point, I decided just to move on with the build. 28 minutes ago, Zippi said: Yeah, those headlights do look a little tricky. mustang1989 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 That was a good try on getting the headlights to work like you wanted them to Dave and I'm sorry it didn't work out for ya man. I do have to applaud your efforts on trying in any case. Looking forward to seeing your progress in moving forward brother.
