Falcon Ranchero Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Always watched it via Discovery Velocity; that's horrible news that all shows related are cancelled. The stuff they were doing in the shows was always awesome; like the one with the Low Rider Monte Carlo they drove through the desert, or that Chrysler airport Limo that they drove around the dirt track with a blown tire; my favourite car being the Crusher Impala ('69). Definitely an end of an era. Quote
espo Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Sorry to hear about what is happening with Roadkill. I have watched for years, been somewhat disappointed with the reruns for some time. I have not renewed my subscription to Motor Trend magazine that I have had since the '60's and I'm in a wait and see mode on Hot Rod magazine which I have also subscribed to for just as long. Content changes and the bi-monthly thing has started to leave me a little cold on them both the last couple of years. I'll checkout Freiburger on YouTube and see how that goes. While I have also enjoyed the many different people that did the shows, I hope they all land on their feet and find a new niche going forward. There have been many changes in this world and the business of presenting automotive based subject matter. Call me old fashion, but I mis all of the old automotive magazine that I used to subscribe to and while I do look at many related things on the internet, the printed stories and pictures are still my preferred source of information. 2 Quote
stitchdup Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 i hope somewhere picks up some automotive content instead of another lazy rehash of an already tired concept. i enjoy seeing people working with their hands to create something or bring something back. in the uk we only have 3 main car shows and one of them (5th gear) is yawn inducing but car sos is good while wheeler dealers is a watch the episode once. shows like roadkill, bitchin rides or texas metal are ones you can watch again and again and we need shows like that, the same way we need hard copies of magazines. we really need people that are proud of their work to make shows that let us see why they are proud. we need to have more mastery than mediocrity on tv and that goes for all the hobby shows, whether its cars, knives or baking, show us the pros, not idiot celebs playing for giggles. 1 Quote
1972coronet Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Freiburger has his own channel as well. Vice Grip Garage is my favourite. Quote
LennyB Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Ever since Discovery+ took over Motor Trend there has been a clear reduction in new content. Used to be that there was something new every week. Now, it's few and far between. I don't think I've seen anything new in a few weeks. I wonder what other programs are going to disappear along with the RoadKill crew. 1 Quote
Brian Austin Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Some of the shows still have a season or two of content to come, according to the Motor Trend website, so don't give up on the channel just yet. Quote
bobss396 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 A bunch of other shows are impacted as well like the Kindig one. And the one from Texas, Iron Resurrection. Maybe some other channel will pick them up. 1 Quote
Carmak Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Roadkill introduced a whole generation to the concept of working on old cars yourself and driving them. I have a son in his mid 20’s and Roadkill is probably the single biggest reason he got into cars. He has a whole group of friends into cars and Roadkill is the reason. I know the Roadkill guys will continue but there are other people out there to carry the torch and introduce the next generation to cars. Quote
Miatatom Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 On a related note, is My Classic Car still on and producing episodes? Quote
GoodbuildNY Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Big media has slowly been eradicating automotive shows for years. I’m convinced they hate car culture Quote

bobthehobbyguy Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Not a surprise. That's why I don't bother with paid tv. Plenty of quality content on YouTube for no cost. Yes there are ads but they are on the paid networks also. Quote
bobss396 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 There were some horrid shows like Gas Monkey and Kounts Kustoms, also the rat rod shows and that Chad guy. The motorcycle build off shows were good, I'm not an OCC fan at all. 1 1 Quote
deuces wild Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Hope motortrend will still do the Mecum car auctions..... Quote
Bugatti Fan Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) I particularly like Bangers and Cash on UK TV. It is about a car and auto memorabilia auction house Mathewsons in Yorkshire dealing with all sorts of classics, most of which are affordable to many everyday people, rather than all the exotics that goes through the upper class auction houses like, Bonhams, Sothebys and Christys.I Top Gear on the BBC used to be quite an informative programme about new models, classics and other motoring topics. That is until it degenerated into a farce about a few mature guys fooling around like boy racers in every programme. It was a disaster waiting to happen as Freddie Flintoff, one of the presenters nearly killed himself in a bad crash during production. The programme was pulled shortly after the incident. WillyBilly Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Always taking away everything good and replacing it with stupid. No wonder I am becoming a grumpy old man. Time to cancel Discovery+. 2 Quote

W-409 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 This was a big bummer when the news came out. I've been a huge fan of Roadkill since the first episode aired in YouTube 13 years ago. I have to say I've seen every episode multiple times, and we've sometimes sat down with a couple of friends for the evening, just to watch Roadkill episodes together. I'm still a subscriber and will continue to be unless someone comes up like a DVD pack or something of all of the episodes. Roadkill and Roadkill Garage were basically only car shows I watch, because I hate the scripted TV shows with drama. Now I guess I'll have to follow Freiburger and Finnegan on YouTube, hopefully they'll also get together sometimes to work on something together. Time will tell. Quote

Freiburger talked about this on a recent video on this YouTube channel, traveling distance is his biggest challenge with a few of the other guys. I think it would be awesome to see them back messing around. He's been doing "historical road trips" on his channel. Still interesting content. Quote
