Anyone else get the text that you owe an overdue road toll?  What's funny, we don't have toll roads in Arizona.  The radio had to do a PSA to explain it's a new scam.

About two weeks ago, I just scoffed and muttered "you're gonna have to do better than that"  my phone is used for calling - not internet surfing or payments of any type.  Less than 10 people have the number and I have to look it up myself. So anything like that I know its a load of crud.

Ive never driven a toll road but I have been fleeced crossing the Tacoma Bridge many a time in the past.

I just got one from WSDOT (I assume Washington State Department of Transportation) on my business phone. I've never been to Washington state in my life. The closest was California. I also don't take toll roads voluntarily, and only on business trips where I'll be reimbursed.

Yep, getting those from the IL toll roads.

I travel them once a year, and pay them right away.

I've gotten a couple of those... Simply reported them as spam and moved on. It's been about a week now since I got the last one.

I got one last week for an odd amount, $6.99 of all things.

I have 3 cars on EZ Pass and they get paid automatically.

I didn't click the supplied link. I went into my real account, nothing overdue. I must say that the text looked like it was from EZ Pass.

This scam has been around for some time now. Just like any other scam or SPAM emails or texts, they dont' actually target people who live in toll road areas. They just send their emails/texts to whoever is in the contacts list they purchased from the Derk Web, or maybe even just test a bunch of consecutive phone numbers.  Don't try to make sense of any scams - there likely isn't any.

Actually I just got one of those today on my cell phone. Just report it as scam, block the number (which does no good anyway because they use disposable or fake numbers) and move on with your life.  We really live in sucky times constantly being accosted by all sorts of bad actors.

Got two of those texts today.  One claiming to be from the Pa Turnpike (haven’t been on it in 6 months) and one from Colorado (haven’t been on a toll road there in 19-20 years).

I’m so sick of all these scammers these days. It’s ridiculous that everyday I spend more time deleting and blocking BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, than I get in legitimate texts and/or calls. Some say all this hi tech stuff is great, but I beg to differ. It really sucks having a phone anymore. Not sure about other phones, but the iPhone has a feature where you can block senders that are not in your contacts, but these scumbags somehow know how to get around that? We pay our bill every month on these $900 devices to be aggravated, and I’m just so sick of it. Rant over.

Another thing, how are they able to call, you hear half a ring, and it goes immediately to voicemail?  I'm amazed the phone companies allow junk numbers, and piggy-backing.

Someone told me that some scammers get paid for a call simply going through.

I get them on my landline, a 99.999% hang up rate.

On my cell phone, I answer in Spanish. 99.998% of those hang up too.

I didn't get too many Medicare scam calls this past year. I also got loads of cals offering me a free back brace... all offshore. I say vile things to these people, no matter male or female.

I just joined the club the other day.  Got a notice on my phone that my EZ Pass "account" was in arrears and needed to be paid immediately.  I used EZ Pass years ago while living in Dallas, but made sure I had no remaining debts before I left for a tiny town in the Midwest.  I couldn't tell you where the nearest toll road was out here.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the area code for the phone number they provided - NY state.  Never been there, never going to go there.

Scams are getting real bad.  I've been getting those. And the "you have a package that could not be delivered" scam, and a scam claiming to be from my bank. when I see a weird weblink or phone number with a foreign prefix it is instant delete.

Seems like they know you buy off eBay, and that's when I get those too.

Got another one.  Everyone who lives in Arizona knows the only toll roads are in Parks, where you pay *first*.   Obviously foreigners with the etczb.xin address.

Since some of my texts and emails seem to be getting g close to who I do business with, whether it be a coincidence or not, I put a lock on my credit report so nothing can be purchased or opened unless they notify me.

Got a panicked call from my wife earlier this afternoon. She had gotten one of those texts and was freaking out. Wanted to know if it was alright with me if she used my credit card to pay.... I told her to STOP!!!

Pointed out that we don't have an EZ pass account. Do my tolls as pay by plate.

I did have an ez pass account many years ago, but cancelled it when my transponder was stolen out of the car (along with our handicapped parking placard) when I ran into the grocery store without locking it ... People are scum.

Geek Squad. No account with them.

Paypal. No account with them.

So they just keep trying anything, hoping someone will bite.

We get plenty on the landline.  They get the answering machine all the time. But once in a blue moon I pick up and tell them off with a few profanities and hang up.

The caller ID's are:

a company name sometimes,

just a phone number shown twice

people's names that we don't know.

a town, state.

As I was writing this I just got this job scam:

First, I'm not a painter

Second I live in GA.

I clicked "Report Junk".

And right after that I just got the E-Z pass scam:

I put my phone on silent, but never answer. It would be nice to have a bit of fun with them, but by answering, they know they have a live number, and puts them a step closer to getting more info.
