Ace-Garageguy Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Yeah...between a couple of generations raised as special little snowflakes who can do no wrong and were never disciplined or taught respect for other peoples' rights, and the resulting online culture of entitled narcissists that celebrates the worst imaginable behavior, it's not looking really great for people starting to act right en masse any time soon. Just a thought...many municipal and county gubmints have online access to local laws. I've only called the FD on somebody once when his fire was so huge there was a serious risk to the neighborhood, and that shut him down. On the other hand, I HAVE printed out the county burn laws in big black type ("from a concerned neighbor who'd rather not involve law enforcement") and left them in the mailboxes of the worst offenders a few years back...including a note that next time, I WOULD call code enforcement. It worked. And frankly, the recent crop of clowns do their stupid schmidt so infrequently, it's not currently worth the effort. 5
James2 Posted May 11 Posted May 11 The Good Book says to live at peace with all people, whenever possible. Sometimes it just isn't possible but the best thing you can do is try talking to them, grow thinker skin and be kind. Did I mention the whenever possible part!
89AKurt Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Do not get me going about neighbors. 😡 The next door to the south, been "coexisting" with them 40 years, they recently moved into town, leaving their {blank} around, including no wildfire fuel removal, so I'm having to clear-cut my yard in defense. That's one reason I got a Shipping Container, but I believe he snitched to the County, so I'm expecting a battle. Neighbor on the north side is super sweet, she allowed the backhoe to come around back to pull the Shipping Container into final place. The next neighbor on her north, recent Latino family, think the street is the racetrack and not pit lane. Otherwise everyone controls their dog's barking, but I did leave a note for another new neighbor about it, nice first try, they have been keeping their dogs in check. Across the street is the cabin that is never used by a Phoenix owner, no issues at all. I see three boats in front yards, south neighbor's sailboat has never moved for 30 years. Guy across the street and I are friends, I better return his hammer shovel......... Otherwise on average, sounds like I'm lucky. 1

If you accidentaly forget they are there they eventually start to rot and that smell is tough to get rid off. it gets in their clothes, hair and carpets and eventually its like rotting corpses (bonus points if you use the actual rotting corpse variety but you probably dont want to go near those, lol) Expand Or there’s always the possibility of planting my whole back yard with marijuana. It’s legal in now in Minnesota, so I could not only tick off all of the neighbors, but I could eliminate having to mow the lawn and make some extra cash at the same time! 😉 Steve 1 5

Brutalform Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I was thinking about starting a thread like this, but was afraid I was becoming a grumpy old man too. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood, so when I say a convicted drug dealer lives across the street, you might get the wrong impression, and think it’s a poor neighborhood. But, his grandparents owned the home, and left it to him. He did do hard time, for a couple of years, but he’s back. He did drive a big, fancy, Dodge ram, that he goes out and starts up, and sits in it for a half hour or more, texting, while idling. Constantly running in and out all day, everyday. The thing has the loudest, aftermarket mufflers on it. When he comes home, several times a day, he pulls into the driveway and does the same. So he got rid of the truck, and bought a nice quiet Audi SUV. I was so happy, as this thug appears to be unapproachable, and would probably tell me to eff off if I tried to talk to him nicely about the problem. But guess what? He had a loud pipe installed on this vehicle now. It drives me nuts. I get having a louder vehicle, as I used to own a drag car. But I never in a million years would even let it get to a point where I was annoying my neighbors. Like dude, if you wanna sit and text, do it inside or shut the pos off and do it. And I found out his brother is on the local police force here also. So calling the police isn’t an option. 1 2
slusher Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I have a couple annoying ones, it’s part of it. Guy across the street mowed late until one of the kids forgot and left the dog chain in his yard he drove over it. Messed up his mower now he hires it done. He has 2 pit bulls you can smell the fertilizer after the mow. Maybe they will move..someday"..

bobss396 Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I bought my house largely for the fact that I have no close neighbors. I back up on state land on 2 sides. My closest neighbors are across the street, they have been there since 2017. I have yet to meet any of them. 4
Falcon Ranchero Posted May 12 Posted May 12 It is so not wrong at all. I don't even want to touch this topic with a 39 and a half foot pole, considering the 'hood I come from. 1
Rob Hall Posted May 12 Posted May 12 My neighbors are pretty quiet and keep to themselves..the retired Vietnam Vet next door sometimes can be a bit chatty if he sees me out in the driveway, but fine otherwise. My house is set way back off the street and on about 2 acres, so plenty of space and trees from the neighbors on each side, w/ woods and a city park behind me. It's a very quiet neighborhood. My previous house, though, where I lived from 2017-2023 had neighbors on one side that had a lot of parties with Ukrainian music for a couple years..but they eventually moved and the people that replaced them had a lot of parties w/ country music and setting off fireworks many summer weekends... Besides tiring of the noisy neighbors and my split level house, I wanted more space and quiet when I bought my current ranch and moved in 2023. I plan to retire here eventually. 2

keng Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I live in the city and have had to post my property no trespassing because of a peeping tom next door. count your blessings..........
bobss396 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 When we were house shopping, we looked at one with the driveway right next to the next door driveway. Zero space between them. Someone next door was washing his car at the bottom of the driveway with a big radio blasting. I told the real estate agent right there.. we are not interested in this house. 2
johnyrotten Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I'm pretty fortunate after reading some of these post. The neighbors below my property I've only had one small occasion, saw him walking through the woods past my yard on my property, just let him know I keep my dogs off the leash and that was enough for the light bulb to go off. no more strolls in the woods. The guy across the street, total moron but no issues my way, though he did set his property on fire last year during a burn ban. 3

My GF loves to have her vehicle's interior at a comfy temperature when she gets in it, so she starts it up in the winter to heat it up, and in the summer to cool it down. To me it is a waste of gasoline, but she loves it. Fortunately for the neighbors she just drives a quiet Hyundai Tuscan. 1

I’ve seen him come out to start it. it’s a beat up rusty old 90s Dodge with a loud muffler. I can understand letting it run for a while when it’s 10 below zero in the middle of winter, but right now, it’s in the 60s in the morning. No need for heat or air conditioning. Steve
