Under the search option: I think "all of my search term words" should be first before "any of my search term words". Right now, you may get 100,000 results before you narrow it down to what you are looking for.

I kind of like and enjoy the forum layout as it is right now....... Everything has a place to go! Too many specialized topic sections would mean that a lot of topics would just sit stagnate with one or two responses...... Plus, that's more sections to moderate.

I second this. Right now anyway I like the layout.

On the subject of a pay to play thing. In the photography forum I am a member of they have different tiers of support, the more you pay the more access and things you can do. Like for a certain amount you are allowed a certain amount of uploads of photos. There is also a post count tier that allows so many photos for a certain amount of posts, the more post, the more photos allowed. But the support is not mandatory, you can still post, read post, etc. but you are limited to what you can do. A certain amount of support, money or post count will allow you a certain amount of uploads. If you reach your upload limit you have to delete photos to upload more. But if you are a big supporter, money and posts, you can get unlimited uploads. Hope that makes sense.

I have a suggestion; sometimes I like to go back and find past threads of my models that I posted but it’s kinda tricky going through all those pages to find it, so what if there was like a “view my threads” section maybe in the drop down in the top right, where you’re taken to a list of all the threads you created anywhere in the forum.

I never had luck with the search on the forum, If I really wanted to find something I would use the search engine on my browser (Duck duck go) and type in "Dick Landy Challenger Model Car Forum" and there would be to options with the link.

It already exists. Go to your own page, click "see my activity" in the upper right, and then select "topics" on the LH side of the screen.

Every thread you ever started will be magically displayed by the last date anything was posted on it.

I'm closing on 40,000 posts, and it's not hard to find a thread I started years ago.

There will always be a free option. You may lose access to sections that get reclassified as premium. We have not reached any agreements on what they be though.

Click on you avatar and go to your page, click find content, and the on the left hand side click forums-topics. That should only list topics you started.

The search function in the software is not something we have a lot of control over. The best way to find things is to use tags, but that is criminally underused.

I have difficulty paying for things online. I've got the money, just no way to pay. I'll NEVER use PayPal,and stick mostly to Postal Money Orders.

That said, this forum is important enough to me that I will gladly figure out a way to pay to use it.

Sounds like the Admin are thinking in the $25.00-$40.00 per year range..

I'll happily pay that.

As far as changes to the Categories, Ace has the most thoughtful and well reasoned suggestions.

I endorse his ideas as stated above, 100%.

One thing, I do think. I know Admins have a tough job, but a little bit more policing the Posting of stuff in the wrong Topic, and moving it back to were it should have been, is needed.

This is more of a definition request. For the most part, I enjoy building non NASCAR short track models, the kind that you would see at your local asphalt or dirt track. When I first started posting here, I posted in the LSR, road racing or “anything not listed” section. This was due to my thinking that the NASCAR section was for Cup, Xfinity (soon to be O’Reilly’s), the trucks, etc.

Maybe change the NASCAR sections to Oval Track or change the definition under the section name to include all oval track race cars.

like the cars that were a specialization of Fred's Racing [i think - it's been a long time gone] of yore.

I know what you mean. You can help admins/moderators by notifying them about threads or posts in the wrong places. I do this fairly often.

Just click on the "..." on the upper right of a post (if it is a thread, do this in the first post of the thread) then choose "Report Post" and that you just way to tell them about it, then in the message area just tell them what the issue is. The number of moderators is small and amount of daily posts is rather large and they can't possibly look over the entire forum for misplaced posts/threads. They are grateful if you can point them to those posts/threads so they can move them.

See this post from Les (one of the mods) indicating they appreciate the assistance.

Not to give much away, but paid memberships have been a hot topic in the discussions we've had.

What might a paid tier look like? There is no concensus on that yet. Lots of ideas though.

And that's the point of this thread. We're going to make changes, and for some people, some features will disappear.

Some people will get upset and threaten to leave. And some of those people will actually leave.

But when you see what we've come up with, I think the majority of people will appreciate the changes and be fully supportive. They will make for a much more enjoyable MCM Forum experience.

BUT...we need your help. We want all ideas, big and small. If you have examples of other forums' features that you really like or really hate, let us know.

To make this the best it can be, we need your input. And if your friends here haven't posted ideas in this thread yet, go rattle their cages and tell them to get in here!

We may not incorporate every suggestion, but we'll be paying attention to all of them.

And do it this week, as we're having our first big official meeting about this on Saturday. Give us lots to discuss!

And to help ease some concerns I know some people will have, ALL dollar figures we've discussed so far have been less than the cost of a single new Round2 kit. And that's yearly, not monthly.

i am only keeping a free membership, but want my posts to be only read by "top tier" members. will there be a button for that?

Not sure I like that idea, I won't be able to read ANYONE'S posts then !

I'm on enough people's "ignore" list as it is. 😲

i've dealt with subcontractors in the trades for so too many years. most of these guys never have learned that having five unfinished jobs, and going to each of them one day a week, does not satisfy five people.

it annoys five people. you're better off to be honest about your time restraints, and tell people up front you cannot meet their time frame and hope they will consider you for the next one. people don't always like

to hear that, but i think long haul they secretly harbor a bit of respect even if they don't admit it.

i have enjoyed our interaction, but completely understand your position.

best wishes for your future endeavors.

Don't know what that's all about but I was just cracking a joke.

We sometimes do that from time to time here. 😉

Personally I don't see that making more categories makes much sense becuase you simply can't please everyone. I think the categories we have are just fine.

As far as having a pay for the site fee I would suggest having a survey for any changes to assume not alienating forum members. I'm sure there is a segment that may not to pay for a variety of reasons. If the free option is too severely crippled there will be a loss of membership.

I am also curious on who is going to administer collecting the fees. Second is a new member going to be able to sign up immediately. If so that is going to take more resources to administer.

Limiting the amount of space and having to post more content is a bad idea useful content will be lost. Lots of threads became meaningless with the photobucket debacle.  Besides editing the post content is limited to a short period of time.

100% agree on this, most of the time I spend on this forum is looking at past WIP's for tips and inspiration. If we do that, a lot of great stuff from the "tips and tricks" section would be lost.

Also, I recently "lost" an external HD, along with about 15 years worth of photos. I use the "view my attachments" and it has every photo I've posted, here, so I can at least have the cropped and resized images back, without having to search through everything to find them.
