Jim Gibbons Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I'm also very late to the party, but maybe a "Nostalgia Under Glass" category for really old builds might be interesting. Just my 2cents worth!
Casey Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 The below is not my own original idea, and was derived from previous posts/suggestions on the same topic, as well as discussion with other members. sjordan2 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 This may be the very first time I've ever agreed with Casey and disagreed with Harry, but I see absolutely no reason to have Large Scale as a separate topic, especially when the Workbench/Under Glass sections make no distinction between the rest of all modeling scales.
W-409 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I think Casey made a really good suggestion there. Personally I'd like to keep Drag Racing Models and NASCAR sections as they are now, but if someone changed them, I think that would be the best thing to do what Casey suggested.
afx Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) I would vote for Casey's categories. And for all those that want no categories use - "View New Content" and you can see everything . Edited January 5, 2015 by afx
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I also have a suggestion. There is an under utilized feature when a topic is created called tags. Here is how it could be used. There would be only one automotive workbench for all scales. When a topic is created it would get a tag big or small. These tags show next to the title. To see only the big scale the big tag is touched. To facilitate the usage a pinned topic would have an appropriate title. Then the tags could be used to filter out a specific type. By doing this we will use something that already existscand avoid having too many sections that don't always get the right items put in them anyway. Just a thought.
James2 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Casey's list makes the most since, and perhaps the Tag feature could be used for the scale as well.
Jordan White Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I agree on the scale tags as well, with the tags labeling the kit scale rather than just large scale or small scale. That way, since the site search function makes it tough to search by just scale, it would be easier to sort by the size you're interested in.
afx Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I would really like someway to denote scale in the thread title as well.
Tom Geiger Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 So does this mean that the big scale guys are scale bigots? Do the 1/12 scale guys fight the 1/8 scale guys?
jbwelda Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 please remove that distinction between pickup trucks and regular automobile models. as it is, build a bucket t with a turtledeck and its a "car" but put a shortened bed on it and its off to the "truck" category/ghetto. I bet a good percentage of your readers never even go to that Trucks section and probably wonder why no one builds hot rod pickup trucks. for chrissakes "trucks" should be just that: big trucks. that's a category that makes sense. pickups, panels, commercial van sort of vehicles...are not "Trucks" in my opinion. jb

My 40 panel hot rod, sure didn't belong in a truck section.
Harry P. Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 When we didn't have a separate section for pickups, people complained that we didn't have one. So we added one. Now that we do have a separate pickup section, other people complain that we have one. Anyone want to tell me the secret of keeping everyone happy all the time?
Harry P. Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I bet a good percentage of your readers never even go to that Trucks section... That's their choice. Nobody is telling you which sections to look at and which not to look at. That's up to each individual member.
Aaronw Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The trucks section really should be commercial vehicles and work trucks / cars of all sizes. Personally I do think pickups, vans, panel wagons used for work, not show belong. A Ford Pinto with a dominoes sign would even fit in as would a farmers old pickup. Factory stock pickups and such also fit in here.Custom and show rigs whether full size big rig slammed and chromed, S-10 "tuner" style or a low rider '59 El Camino share a lot more with custom cars than trucks. These are more about style, and looking good, not working and getting dirty.Monster lifted 4x4s, and "utes" (El Camino / Ranchero / Brat things) are just going to have to be a value judgement on where the builder feels most comfortable as they can easily go either way with slight differences in building style.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I vote for Caseys catagories. Me three, but the custom/rod pickup truck thing Mr. Welda mentioned has me kinda on the fence too. Some of those really aren't a good fit with working vehicles, but then again, there are a few wild modified big trucks as well. So very confusing.
Jordan White Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I think it should just be "automobiles, race cars, big rigs" as the main sections, and have tags to furthur split them up. Would make it easier for the people who like to see all, the people who want to see something specific, and everything in between. With tags though, they should be mandatory and there can be certain specific tags that can be chose from.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I like what's been said by Casey, except split up the trucks "wanted" and "for trade" sections.

bobthehobbyguy Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Yup one hundred percent happy customers they never complain.
Agent G Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Tell me again just why a 5 year old thread was resurrected? G
