Tom Geiger Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 last summer i bought a hudge secretaire desk with a rolling shutter (??) Hi Richard, in the USA we call that a "Roll Top Desk". It's a classic design probably going back to the 1700s but always reproduced and available. I had one for many years. I like the way you've organized yourself, and can work in the family space. I'm way too messy! My model room has a wood floor and when I search for lost bits, I'm amazed at how much has come off the bench such as whittled plastic bits, small lengths of wire, paper etc. And I tend to have a lot of parts boxes open, kit boxes everywhere! I do agree that I wouldn't want to work in a shed, that's not even in the house so it seems too distant for me. I don't even want my bench in the basement, since that's pretty distant too. You could always put your son's bed in the living room and move the desk up to his room? I laugh but I know people in this hobby selfish enough to do that!
DrKerry Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 hey all my new workbench .. i could choose to make a room for myself upstairs or give my son one big room .. off-course i went for the last option , he needs some space growing up .. i could make a big bench in a nother earea upstairs and i have a large shed , the shed is to cold and moist in winter time .. and since i was building at the dining table for a while now i realised the living room was the best place .. i build a lot and then we are all together ... one is watching tv one is on the tablet , i'm building but we still are together and can comunicate last summer i bought a hudge secretaire desk with a rolling shutter (??) looked like this > redone it for the pc > result > shutter down and now i made a workbench out of it , all the drawers are deep and in the middle there is a very wide shallow drawer so plenty of room for tools and stuff.. for the handy in reach stuff i use aq lot i made 2 small shelf cases next to the screen shutter down and it just looks good .. especially in your livingroom you want to be able to hide the clutter ... best thing is i can build , have most of my paints and tools in reach .. i have a screen in fron of me i can look up things or put a picture oon for reference and just look up and see it .. i can watch tv online , we habe kpn in holland and then you also have all the channels online ... real handy for all my kits and parts i have a notehr closed closet in the livingroom Looks nice......

mustang1989 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Greg:Thanks for the congrats. I've got plans for where to move my bench to. I may have to split it up a little but plans none the less. Richard: That bench looks sharp. Sometimes I wished I had a set up like that to make it more living room friendly. Al: Nice bench and nice aircraft stash!!
Jantrix Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Kind of a mess right now, but then it always is when I'm cracking into a new kit. I'm pretty lucky to have most everything I need at arms reach.

I just HAVE to get a light over my paint booth!!

Modelbuilder Mark Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I was lucky to build this hobby room last year after building for decades in the corner of a bedroom. Made this work bench from IKEA kitchen sink shelfs and some coated chip wood. Amazing that no matter how much working space you have it always ends up cluttered up with trumpery. Check out the display cabinet I made from the old fireplace downstairs. That is soo cool, I like your additional lighting as well.

Tony-442 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I've posted these in another part of the forum, but thought I'd share here as well. This is my space, which is part of our home office. It's a computer work station that you can close up to hide the mess, so that everything blends in the room. I have storage for my kits downstairs in our storage area. We turned the basement into an apartment, so this is the only area I have to work in. I like it, hope you guys do. Tony Hey Guys.... Here is an update! I was single for a year and a half, and while living alone in an awesome little appartment: I had a pantry off the side of my kitchen I turned into the Hobby Garage!! I have since bought a house, moved, and come spring time, am building an entire new set up in my detached garage. I can't wait to get started. But for now, I reminness... Gone but never forgotten! lol...
crazyjim Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 There's some very nice work areas posted here.
99monguse Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 What do you guys do with the model once it's built? 20 years ago I used to build but I ran out of more for the finished ones. I had like three 8 foot shelves and they were door to door all the way down the shelves then they were coated in dust and I ened up throwing them away. Just curious what you guys do, sell them maybe?
