I have the mismarked 91 Castrol NHRA top fuel champion kit.....the one with Gary Ormsby on it....Problem was Joe Amato won Top Fuel in 91.....

I think I paid more in 92 for the kit than it sell for now!

I don't think it is that rare as I have 2 of that kit. The misprint was what first caught my eye but reality set in when I saw them at swap meets going for the same price as the 427 kits.

I would say if someone else thinks it is rare and is willing to pay a premium for it, sell it !

the ONLY reason i bought it at a swap was because of the '429' engine!!! lol been on the shelf for at least 18 yrs... lol i think it was a $5.00 buy...

it does have some nice LT-1 stripes tho'...

There are more of the "429" misprint box kits than there were corrected "427" kits in that same box. The misprint boxes were used for the initial run. The highest number of any given kit will be made in the first run. Subsequent production runs are usually way smaller (fewer kits) because not all distributors or stores restock at the same time.

No more rare than the MPC 1988 Chevy C-1500 Silverado "Licensed by Ford Motor Company" I don't think. Misprinted box art happens from time to time, often the misprint doesn't turn up until the kits are already in the pipeline.

It would probably be worth more if the back window was correct and if it was molded in white. Nice builder though.

I was going to crack wise about that back window, but somebody always has to beat me to it...

You mean you guys never heard of the uber-rare, one year only Chevrolet 429 CID DOHC, siamesed bore, nikasil lined, dry sump, titanium rodded, boron blocked V-10???

The saddest irony is the Revell box with Gary Ormsby being shown as the 1991. Champion. The box was on the store shelfs when he passed away just prior to the US Nationanals in 1991. His passing was one of the things that caused me to loose interest in what has become the John Force show.

What's the story on the back window?
