modelmike Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Is the Revell kit #7149 (1969 corvette 427 coupe) with the 429 misprint on the box rare? the one i have is mint in the shrinkrap...
vettecote Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I heard there was 10,000 copies made, but not sure...Joe
modelmike Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I heard somthing like that but i also heard they pulled most from the shelves when it was discovered.... idk?
kenb Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 There is one on ebay right now. Buy It Now $17.99. They don't show the box, but the listing is for a 429 Corvette so I would think they read that off the box. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Corvette-429-Coupe-Revell-1-25-Scale-Kit-New-Box-Complete-Unstarted-/170785038964?_trksid=m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D35%26pmod%3D310367347199%26ps%3D50 Ken
MikeMc Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I have the mismarked 91 Castrol NHRA top fuel champion kit.....the one with Gary Ormsby on it....Problem was Joe Amato won Top Fuel in 91..... I think I paid more in 92 for the kit than it sell for now!
mikemodeler Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I don't think it is that rare as I have 2 of that kit. The misprint was what first caught my eye but reality set in when I saw them at swap meets going for the same price as the 427 kits. I would say if someone else thinks it is rare and is willing to pay a premium for it, sell it !
jas1957 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 They were pretty common back when, I doubt it's worth a whole lot now.
weasel Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 the ONLY reason i bought it at a swap was because of the '429' engine!!! lol been on the shelf for at least 18 yrs... lol i think it was a $5.00 buy... it does have some nice LT-1 stripes tho'...
modelmike Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Well iguess ill let it sit i have plenty of other kits to build....
Mark Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 There are more of the "429" misprint box kits than there were corrected "427" kits in that same box. The misprint boxes were used for the initial run. The highest number of any given kit will be made in the first run. Subsequent production runs are usually way smaller (fewer kits) because not all distributors or stores restock at the same time.
Danno Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 About as rare as a $1 drink at McDonald's. - That's humor
Art Anderson Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 No more rare than the MPC 1988 Chevy C-1500 Silverado "Licensed by Ford Motor Company" I don't think. Misprinted box art happens from time to time, often the misprint doesn't turn up until the kits are already in the pipeline. Art
Dave Van Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 10,000 made...NONE recalled....we sold the 2 cases we ordered at the hobby shop I worked at then. Error box....worth about $12-15 each today.....
cobrit Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 It would probably be worth more if the back window was correct and if it was molded in white. Nice builder though.
Chuck Most Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 It would probably be worth more if the back window was correct and if it was molded in white. Nice builder though. I was going to crack wise about that back window, but somebody always has to beat me to it...
jeffs396 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 You mean you guys never heard of the uber-rare, one year only Chevrolet 429 CID DOHC, siamesed bore, nikasil lined, dry sump, titanium rodded, boron blocked V-10???
iBorg Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The saddest irony is the Revell box with Gary Ormsby being shown as the 1991. Champion. The box was on the store shelfs when he passed away just prior to the US Nationanals in 1991. His passing was one of the things that caused me to loose interest in what has become the John Force show.
Monty Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I was going to crack wise about that back window, but somebody always has to beat me to it... What's the story on the back window?
Chuck Most Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 What's the story on the back window? It's curved for some odd reason.
Nick Notarangelo Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 theres a guy selling one on craigslist in the town just south of me for 45 bucks,I thought it was a photoshop thing.
Maindrian Pace Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Put a Boss 429 in it to make the box art correct. -MJS
mopar68 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) I just built one, can't be too rare I don't think. Edited February 26, 2012 by mopar68
