Just got this original AMT Rabbit pretty cheap (although the shipping almost doubled the price into the cost of a current kit!):

I figured it was worth a shot since AMT skipped over reissuing this kit in favor of the 1/24 Euro-sourced one. I was apparently the only bidder; I say "apparently" because I got this note on the bid page:

Never saw that before .

Nice score on the Wabbit.

Far as the other goes, that's been SOP on eBay for a couple months. With lotsa folks sniping in the last 10 seconds, they're having to look at bid placement times pretty carefully.

I picked up these Square Bodies and a couple Broncos with the kits I got last Saturday at the model show I went to. I've taken an interest in the Square Body style lately. Lots of potential and work here.

Had a birthday today (reluctantly) and got a few cool modeling-related bits…

Cheated, and got this for myself…

This one was a gift - I’m excited to dig into it…there’s a TONNE of parts in the box for this one!

My wife cleared out Hobby Lobby of all their Letraset dry-transfer lettering (she knows how I love this stuff…)

Plus this (not car related, but will still make for a fun little project…)

And I found these in the jewelry section - they’ll be perfect for little suspension linkages or something similar!

Got a bunch of not-model-related car stuff too - stickers, Rat Fink merch, some parts for my 1:1 Mustang, a Mustang shirt (because everyone knows you can’t own a Mustang or Vette without wearing a matching shirt)…I’m a lucky guy!

One of our local non-profit organizations runs a thrift shop.  My daughter and I volunteered for a few hours on Saturday morning.  I worked in the delivery area where everyone drops off their items to donate.

One of the boxes included a Lindberg 90s era Little Red Wagon kit.  The delivery supervisor said they wouldn't bother trying to sell it since it was opened and partially built.  They were going to toss it in the dumpster, so you know what happened.  ?

?

Seems like everything's there.  Little bit of a glue bomb, but the price was right!

Another historic race car, a 1/24 Imai/Heller Talbot-Lago 4.5 liter Grand Prix car. Ratty box, complete and un-started model.

I already had several of the Merit/Smer (EDIT: now repopped by Atlantis !) kit of the same car, a very simple kit that responds well to upgrading, but this version is a much more detailed (though still pretty basic) starting point.

I hope you asked the manager to save all partially started kits for your use. Pop a bit of money to their cause and all is golden.

Talbot-Lago:  I wish I had a couple of resin copies of that engine -- and header!  Starts the creative juices going.

I have mostly taught myself (age 76 and counting) to make resin parts, and have pulled molds from the Monogram Indy-car kit Offy four (pretty basic!) and Hawk M-B 1939 GP DOHC V-12 car kit with copies.  I am using the M-B for an ersatz Harry A. Miller V-12 for a 'phantom' roadster I'm assembling; no exhausts at all from that model, as the engine was for display alongside.  It was a crummy kit because the wire-wheels were just transparent plastic; 'paint spokes silver' the instructions said.  Yeah, and I was 15!  But I found a pair of 'chromed' V-12 headers -- source unknown -- for it.  Boy, headers must be the real challenge of resin reproduction!!  May also do an archetypal NOVI V-8 for a '53 Stude-based GP type car from 'fifties, ala Cunningham's LeMans Caddies.  Only better!

Also scratch built another 'V-12 for a conversion of a glue-bombed R-R roadster into a Miller boat-tail; two fabbed cylinder banks, heads, cam towers, atop a pair of old flathead V-8 crankcases siamesed to twelve cylinders.  It would use up a ton of resin, but I think I'll make a mold of it before adding details and painting.  This car will be 4WD, much in the spirit of the street machines Miller/Goosen/et al custom built.  Wish me luck!  (And bench time; also doing 1/1 restoration!)

Found an extra 1/25 Chaparral 2E for reasonable money, this time a complete unmolested Union repop of the old IMC kit referenced above. Decals included in this one to do two cars (other kit's weren't usable), and the parts are present that are missing in the other one so I can do my own repops. A "fiddly" kit with lotsa working stuff that builds a beautiful model with applied patience and thought.

On an IMC roll here...the next one's a Ford J-car, the short-nose version with many revisions from the early prototype. No box, but complete with good decals. A few panels painted, but easily strippable. Another one where the builder quit before bodging things badly. As with all of the old IMC kits I've acquired of late, the intent is to upgrade with things like accurate 3D printed Weber carbs or injection, correctly scaled engines, more correct gearboxes, etc., and to take care with the fit of the opening panels, re-engineering the hinges if required.

Nice score and kudos for tackling a kit that you rarely see built.  As I’m a glutton for punishment too I built one box stock maybe a decade ago.  I just may have to junk that silly looking carb and replace it with one more realistic looking.  I think the MPC J car is a more accurate representation of this car but it changed by the week during development into what ultimately became the MKIV that won Lemans and Sebring in 1967.

Saw a thread on here where a guy built a good looking model from a kit I previously didn't know existed. And though I was never a huge fan of the Ferrari 308 (very pretty, very nice car to drive, but felt like an expensive Fiat X1-9 to me), the flared boy-racer version kinda got to me. Didn't overpay, especially considering it was pretty much an "impulse" buy. Though it's a curbside, I'm kinda seeing it with something interesting for power, like an LS sitting sideways, bolted to a GM F40 gearbox (I've already got a Fiero project going with that setup).

Same seller had another one I was previously unaware of, so I bought too so the 308 wouldn't get lonesome in its new home. I'd expected the Mazda to be a curbside as well, but in fact it's a "full detail" kit, albeit pretty simple. Though I never owned a rotor-motor Mazda, I've worked on and driven them extensively and really enjoyed the early ones.

Yup. That's another one on my list. I've got the MPC MkIV, but no MPC Js as yet.

Although the aerodynamics of the early prototype J proved to be disappointing, it's a car I really want to model.

Was at my friend Mark from DeAgostini. Had lunch and he had this beat up GT500 . A 1/8 Shelby GT500. It was a person who gave up on it. So Mark have it to me to do with what I want. Going to see if I can salvage it. If not, it’s a great parts car.
