Might a chassis from the Tamiya Fiat work as a starting point for the Abarth?

Chuck Most Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Got three of these. Since all the boxes look alike here's one. 10
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 (edited) All the interest on another thread in a '62 Ford got me jonesin' for some early '60s American iron (I have a lot of builtups, some nice, some gloobombs, but not many cherries), so I let one of these follow me home. Plan is to build a mildly hotted up Starliner using remains of a short-shotted '60 body (roof) and chassis. Edited December 19, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy 9
Bainford Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Cool! I bought one for the same reason. Looking to replicate (sort of) a '62 Starliner with Cammer power from an early 80s magazine that I fell in love with at the time. Always wanted to build it. The article made a lot of noise about it being the first practical Cammer powered street car. The article also mentioned that cam chains were changed every 100 miles, so I guess 'practical' is relative. 2 1

CA Whitecloud Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 (edited) I want to up my engine detailing game on this one. Maybe even try some body stressing like on the box. Edited December 19, 2024 by CA Whitecloud 5
CA Whitecloud Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Did I upgrade today from the scriber above to the one below? Granted, user skill remains nominal. 2
YellowHound Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 A sneaky purchase. Wanted one for a very long time. A 'too good to pass up' price on Amazon and I'd bought one before I had time to think about it. I don't think I will be starting this anytime soon though, and it's likely I'll buy a '77 transkit. It's a huge 1/8th scale... 11

I built that kit; kinda wish I hadn't as I was put off it when I found out I spent $31 US on a kit which there was no engine for, but plans were to cut the roof off, put the big bubble top on that came with my '58 Thunderbird kit, and makeshift larger fins for the back but that didn't happen so the photo below is what became of it. Your plan for a Starliner is way cool, good luck. 3

One thing I do remember is that the '60 floor and chassis required surprisingly little butchery to fit under the '60 body. And the Starliner top grafts into the '61 body with minimal fuss too. 1 1

Thanks for your input. I hadn't even looked at anything from a doing-it standpoint yet, so this is very helpful.

Agree, the roof is not a bad swap. I have a similar project and cut the entire cowl out so I did not need to mess with the posts. The rear window needs some Evergreen 1/2 round to eliminate the drop in the center of the '60 opening. I am going with the '63 Galaxie as a chassis/interior donor on mine and using the '61 dash. 2

Falcon Ranchero Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Not technically model car stuff but still usefull for reference; this was shipped to the book store for pick up yesterday. Really pleased considering I ordered it "sight unseen" in the sense that I couldn't flip through the pages. It's all about Australian cars which I thought would be neat to read about after reading 3 different books about the history of American Muscle cars in a row- not that I didn't enjoy reading those books. 4
