Ramfins59 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Well, after lurking and looking for over a year at all the model stuff being auctioned off on EBay, I finally ran across something that I really wanted, and I broke my EBay "cherry". I opened a PayPal account and registered on EBay. I bid on a 1958 Dodge Promo that was in great shape and not warped. Much to my surprise I won the auction..!!! I should have it in my hot little hands on Saturday, and I'm hoping that I won't be disappointed with what I receive. From the 8 or 10 pictures showing the promo, it looked to be in nearly new condition with no warpage at all. I'm sure that this will most likely not be the one and only thing I will bid on but I don't think it will be a regular occurrence. This will be an addition to my "Class of '58" builds. I want to look it over when it arrives and then I'll probably order replacement grille and bumpers from Modelhaus (they have them) and also a '57 Dodge interior from them if I can get it.
om617 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Congratulations! You can find some treasures there now and then. Lot`s of good stuff are posted in the "parts" and "junkyard" tag often. I have bought around 40 kits now, mostly from USA,and i only had one episode where i was not happy about what i got. The guy who sold it gave me half the item price back straigh away,i did not even ask for it. I just wish more US sellers would ship international, they would have sold buckets of kits.
mrknowetall Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Welcome to the world of eBay! You'll be amazed at what you can find there.

Deathgoblin Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I get quite a bit of my stuff from Ebay. I've got a "Skip's Drive In" Corvette coming in today. You can get REALLY good deals on some "lots" of kits. Especially the Tamiya kits.
brad4321 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 There is no better place to model shop. You can find some great prices if you're a little patient.
my66s55 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Congrats. I purchased much of my stash this was in the early 2000's when the prices were even cheaper. Shop wisely and you can make out quite well.

Don't be too sure about that... It's a slippery slope, you'll be finding more and more stuff you 'need' every day!
Scott Colmer Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Been there too. My first e-bay buy was a Tony Nacy triple kit. Then off it went. Seaching every day. Got manual sniping down to an art. 1 to 2 boxes arriving on a regular basis. I even started getting things I forgot I bought. Only had 2 bad transactions in that whole time. Filled my collection to the brim. I hardly buy any kits now. Good times.
Chris White Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Congrats Rich, welcome to evil-bay. I have found a few treasures on e-bay over the years. The good news, if something goes wrong, they give you your money back.

Tom Geiger Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Congrats Rich! I've been on eBay before it was called eBay! And I made a bundle on their stock in the early years. You will like it. You can find everything and anything you can think of. The very first thing I bought on eBay was a book, "Cars Of The Stars" by George Barris. It was a Scholastic book that I got from the school book club back when I was a kid. I just had to have it! And I was hooked right then and there! And I know why you bought the '59... really cool!
slusher Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Nothing like that first win but it can be addicting..

And as far as you getting addicted... you're goose is cooked There ain't no turning back now! Kinda like when I saw a little ad in the back of Scale Auto advertising the Tri-State Scale Model Car Club. I sent in my SASE for info... what could it hurt?
High octane Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I've only got two kits from EVIL-bay and had my brother-in-law and good friend bid and purchase them as they have Pay-Pal accounts. I really need another kit, parts, tools, etc. like a need another hole-in-the -head and that's why I myself won't venture into that territory. So far it's working really good for me. I know there are LOTS of guys who shop the "bay" and if it works for them, that's great!

Maindrian Pace Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I've got a couple of crotchety old friends who swear they will never get into eBay because computers/devil/greasy kid stuff/I ain't sending my bank account/credit card to the internet/back in the old days a handshake and cash, and on and on and on. The kind of guys that trying to explain the proxy bidding system to would make you throw things. But then they see something that they have wanted for 20 years, and I get a phone call sheepishly asking me to please get it for them no matter the price, or up to an amount. So I laugh at them every time, get the item, they thank me, usually are very happy with the total price, rinse, repeat. Good entertainment poking fun at your Rip Van Winkle buddies. -MJS
