Ace-Garageguy Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Interesting how times change. Many many many many moons ago, lotsa trucking companies insurance would pay for glass damage to a following car. Happened to my father several times when he was on the road. Now most trucks have a disclaimer in lawyer-speak on the tailgate.
Tom Geiger Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Interesting how times change. Many many many many moons ago, lotsa trucking companies insurance would pay for glass damage to a following car. Happened to my father several times when he was on the road. Now most trucks have a disclaimer in lawyer-speak on the tailgate. A few weeks ago I witnessed something interesting on the PA Turnpike. I was far enough behind in the left lane to see the whole thing.. I heard this pow and suddenly a rear tire (dual rear wheels) shredded on a truck with a beverage body. Part of the tread landed right across the windshield of the car following him (bits of shrapnel pelted my car as well), literally shattering the windshield in the middle. The guy in the car sped up and waved the truck over, last I saw was the two of them pulling into the shoulder. I'll bet that beverage company paid for that one.
High octane Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 That sounds like a daily occurrence Tom, with the amount of cars and trucks on our roads each and every day.
oldnslow Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Depends on the state you're in, here in Florida, if rocks fall off a dump truck and crack your windshield, they get a ticket for not securing their load, regardless of the lawyer speak sticker on the back.
Mike_G Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 You can put whatever *legal disclaimer* you want on the back of your truck, if something falls off it and causes damage you're still liable.
my80malibu Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 You can put whatever *legal disclaimer* you want on the back of your truck, if something falls off it and causes damage you're still liable. We have that too. If you have comprehensive insurance coverage, you can have your windshield replaced every month for free. That is due to the bad roads, and construction going on.
southpier Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 being reminded of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Thompson irked is really the wrong word, but more of an example of greed and sadness.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Never heard that before. It's depressing.
Joe Handley Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Been running into too many people who seem to pull out in front of me, even if the lane(s) between them and me is empty, and take their slow sweet time getting somewhere near the posted limit in front of me. Usually it's been cars, but Sunday night, I had what was probably a newbie on a black and chrome, V-Twin, bagger style motorcycle do that.......on a 3 lane wide road and then he more or less rode it straight in front of me before turning into the outside lane I was driving in like we were at a 4 way stop on a residential street. Joe Handley Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 This one happened to me today, took the 200 to the dealer for a simple oil change, BS'd with the salesman I bought it through a bit while waiting, then went to the grocery store across the street to buy something for Dad before heading home. Walked in that door and ran into an elderly friend and former co-worker and his wife, so he and I chatted some too, then went on to get what I was there for and leave. By the time I got back to the 200, Dad sent me a text that the dealer had called home looking for, so he gave them my cell number and let me know. I went over to see what they needed (hoping it wasn't a screw up on their part or payment on my part!), and nobody called, not service, the salesman, receptionist, cashier, or even the lady who calls the next day to see how things went. Dad even forwarded the number and nobody there recognized it. I thanked them and left, but that kept bugging me, so at my last stop before getting home, I Googled it.......it was a scam number and had been used in other states too.
blunc Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 now the scammers have yer number, who knows what else they have? (just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not after me)
Joe Handley Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Beeg getting calls for while now, trying to get me to update the Sirius radio in the 200 (had to hang up on that jerk), buying an extended warranty for the car (even though I did that when I bought it), claimed they were BCBS-IL insurance calling about my health coverage, ect........ Their timing was just weird this time, literally within 30 minutes of me leaving the dealer, they called the house and claimed they were that dealership. Edited March 18, 2015 by Joe Handley
Rob Hall Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I keep my home phone ringer off and keep my mobile on vibrate..only answer if I recognize the caller id. Otherwise let it roll to voice mail. No nonsense to deal with that way.

Bill here in Tennessee grave and dump trailers are required to tarp the top of the load and thier name and truck number on the back for damage from gravel coming off. The tarp is on a roll and you pull it to the rear from the ground in 2 min and they still will not do it...
slusher Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I don't complain about much but a bad gas cap cost me 45 bucks to find out and turn the check engine light off today....

They even pull you over if they feel your load is not secured properly .
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Coming home from work a couple hours ago a truck ahead of me kicked up a stone & cracked my windshield. To add insult to injury this is a new $200.00 windshield I had put in 2 wks. & 2 days ago. That sucks. Two years ago, on the one day I left my car in the driveway instead of under the carport, we had the largest hail I've ever seen in my life, and the car got beat from one end to the other, including the windshield.

Now that sucks! As far as windshield cracks and dings go.....I freekin' gave up. I work near a refinery and with all the gravel all the fleet trucks have in their tires it's a joke to think that any windshield would survive unscathed for more than a months worth of trips by there.
Lucas van H Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Yesterday at work one of the clients slammed the car door on my wrist, not on purpose but she wasn't paying attention. Left me with a bruised wrist...
Tom Geiger Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 buying an extended warranty for the car (even though I did that when I bought it), I got a call a few weeks ago telling me the warranty on my car was expiring and they needed me to renew it... my car is 10 years old and hasn't had a warranty for years!
High octane Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 After a salesperson telling you how good the product is that you are interested in buying, they also want you to buy an extended warranty. That's like betting that the new product you choose to buy is going to break down. I think that the stores should have a casino license as that is "flat out" gambling to me.

I've asked them in the past when they call to try and do that for the 200 if they would be interested in selling me an extended warranty for my 17 y/o Jeep with over 160k..........boy do they say no and hang up fast Edited March 20, 2015 by Joe Handley
booboo60 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Watching ESPN Classic game, the i 49'ers vs Cinci Bengles! I remeber them playing but not big plays~ or the final! But. In the 3rd Qtr with less then 2 min till 4th and 1 hour 20 of my time watching! A ticker tape comes up on the screen! You know! Rolling msg!" "You are watching ? 1987 SF 49'ers and Cincinnati Bengles! Where Joe Montana mounts a come back in the 4rh Qtr to set up the winning Fg with just 7 sec on the clock and from the 41 yrd line a 52 yrd feild goal.. 49'ers 27-to Bengles 24, what Are you kidding me! Lol. Yea i hate that..

Yep, since my car is older, and I'm "financially challenged", I only carried liability insurance, so no damage on my car was ever repaired; still covered with dents from stem to stern.
