I walked into Hobby Lobby for the the first time in about a year today. Not for any specific reason, just had some time to kill and figured I'd see what kits and supplies were on the shelves when I saw that the bulk of the kits are $39.99!!! Maybe I've been insulated around my neck of the woods and it's been like that elsewhere for longer, but DAMN!

I have no problem paying good money for hard to get or obscure kits, or even new releases, but paying $40 for the same AMT kit that was $20 last year is insane to me...

I can only imagine how you folks more advanced in age feel... ?

Styrene is getting nearly as expensive as a drug habit.

Well, if it'll make you feel any better, analysts are saying the US could run out of diesel by sometime around Thanksgiving.

If that happens, the price of model kits will be the least of your worries.

Gee...remember just a couple years ago when we were totally energy independent, fuel was plentiful and relatively cheap?

Hmmmm...I wonder what happened...

Actually there is no reason to pay that if you go on the week that's 40 percent. I think it's every other week.

The reasons are many and not nearly as pointed as many believe... but that's a topic for a different place.

Yea, I know they do it on a schedule rather than having the coupon these days, but I didn't realize the shcedule is every other week. Thanks for the tip!

Funny how frequently that group appears, and rarely seem to be firing on all eight.

Found out that once again for the third year in a row due to Covid, that the LIARS,club, which is Long Island Auto Replica Society,is canceling their fall model show, and contest again.?‍♂️

The local club recently had their swap meet after a couple year hiatus. I would've thought all clubs would be eager to get these things going again. What's different in your area?

IDK,beats me,they just decided to cancel again.I actually just confirmed with the club’s president that once again, the show was called off..And the show is only 30 mins away from my house. The only show held on LI.But they do hold meetings and auctions every third Thursday of the month,i believe..I guess I’ll go to their next meeting/auction.The president said he couldn’t get enough help to hold the show. And the place where the show is held, didn’t want the show to go on because of Covid.Like i said,it just sucks. That’s,once again the third year in a row,the show was axed.?‍♂️☹️?.

More often than not, it is the hosting venue that causes the cancellation of events.  They don't have/can't get insurance that will cover potential liability that arises from people getting (or claiming to have gotten) Covid at an event staged in their facilities.  And you can bet people will start suing over it, and the bus-bench advertising, ambulance chasing, low-end attorneys will have their office doors open waiting for them.

Yup,ur probably right.Ah oh well,i didn’t have anything new to put in the show anyway. And I was also told that one of the vendors who had a HUGE amount of kits, new and old, along with a ton of extras,(decals, paint, etc),retired and will not be coming to anymore shows.Welp i guess i gotta wait another year.?

Thank you sir, I never would have thought of that"  Makes perfect sense.

Blame it on Hochal. Sorry…couldn’t resist. ? Syrcon resumed last year and this year and everybody was excited to see the event again. Although this years event was a disappointment. Every single vendor present were selling mostly armor kits, hardly any auto, aircraft, ship, or sci-fi/space related kits for sale. I average walking out with at least 7 or 8 kits including raffle winnings. This year, I was determined to walk out with something - 3 kits and went 0 for 6 in raffle drawings. Oh well…. there’s still next year.

Methinks your event was cancelled out of fear of a COVID outbreak - a pretty lame excuse or simply too lazy. I don’t know. I’d be ticked off myself.

Next year, I’m gunning to attend the Rochester event and Syrcon.

Well as i said,i spoke to the president of the club.According to him the show was called on account of not having enough volunteers from the club, and the rec center didn’t want it on cause of Covid. He added that several club members dropped out of the club.Ah what can u do.

Um no.. insurance companies have a Covid exclusion clause now. In short, I like my house!

You can have the guy making statements like the above quote, he dies a few weeks after the show and his relatives will sue the venue and the hosts.

I sure am glad the folks who put on the show here last November opted not to cower under the bed with their remaining hoard of toilet paper and masks, and they're not this year either.

Funny...we didn't see an outbreak or any lawsuits, and almost nobody was masked up at last year's event.

I guess different people see life very differently.

Wow.... you sure know how to take the wind out of the sails. Cry wolf much?

Let me instill a little bit of logic....

If someone wanted to attend the show or other outing with lots of people,  it’s HIS or HER choice. He/she made the decision to go. We all see folks wearing masks out in public everyday - even in their own car while driving.. It’s their choice and they’re doing everything in their power to protect themselves. End of story. If the individual had indeed passed away, how can you blame COVID? It could be a heart attack, stroke, aneurism, or whatever.

What is it with your statement of lawsuit against the venue and its hosts all of a sudden because of insurance companies have a COVID exclusion clause?  Aren’t you over reacting a bit too much? How is that a valid argument? If your numbers are low, how is that an argument to win a case if that person died after contracting COVID, the flu or some other underlying illness? In fact, there has not been any disturbing upturn trend of COVID infections or deaths in the news as of late. Are you still with me so far?

Let’s take another look at logic....

How is it any different than going to the store, going out to dinner at a restaurant, attending a family holiday gathering (Thanksgiving, Christmas), a New Years Bash, a concert or a Broadway theater show? Are you going to sue your own family member? Sue the restaurant? The store? Sue venue and the performers that put on a show? Sue everybody?  These are everyday things folks are doing now. Everybody is happy in finally getting back to normalcy. It has been a tough 2 years for everybody. Now rethink about your statement. Yeah... it sounds pretty ridiculous and your argument point on insurance is pretty weak. There’s no way a judge will award a family member because of wrongful death against a venue, store or whatever just because that person supposedly died of COVID.

Like it or not, I think COVID is becoming the norm just like a common cold. Yes, cold weather is coming, so is flu and cold season. We all have to adapt and accept it. The only thing we can do is protect ourselves, stay healthy, get vaccinated and stay home if you feel sick. How hard is that to comprehend and do?

Back on track.... if the host of the venue has his reasons due to low membership, lack of volunteers and vendors, no place to host the event, I get it.

Styrene is getting nearly as expensive as a drug habit.

But with the 40% off, you’re paying around $22 or more depending on original price.

LOL! Next time get a wooden spoon instead of a belt.

To add insult to injury they used the cowboy belt I was wearing and then beat me like a drum with it. What used to be called "Corporeal Punishment" is now classified as "Child Abuse". I guess I was just a slow learner as to what I could get away with.

Nah. A good ol' fashioned whipping or three early in life would have benefited a lot of today's hyper-privileged whiny-baby snowflakes immensely.

It becomes "child abuse" when one parent says to the one holding the belt "be sure you don't leave any marks where the teachers can see them".

In january, the company I worked for lost their 3pl contract. They were replaced with another quickly and the transition took place roughly 6 months ago. The new company was gracious enough to hire on the people in the warehouse, and let them keep their "years employed". 2 months ago I was approached to be a supervisor for a new product line coming in. I thought it over and decided that I would indeed take the job. Filled out the application for "formalities" and had an my interview. During the interview I was told I'd be traveling to another state for training in what is now a week away... but before it can become official, since I had actually been with the company only 6 months he would have to get permission to give me the job. I asked why he hadn't already done that? and that he had made it seem like a done deal. I was told not to worry about it, all he had to do was say this is what he wanted and it would go through. Get your affairs in order, the plane leaves on the the 13th... today... "Hey... ummm... they denied the request because you haven't been here long enough."
