High octane Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 What bothers Me today, and other days, is when my paint jobs look better on My practice spoons, than My actual model. That's one of the reasons I never paint spoons, and go right for the car bodies.
cobraman Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Yesterday I listed a sofa and love seat on Craigslist for free. Nothing really wrong with them my wife just wanted to change things up and ordered some new stuff. I wanted to get the old stuff out before the new stuff arrived. I must have received 25 texts or more in about 2 hours. The first to contact me really wanted it because they had lost everything and had just been able to rent an apartment. They could not arrange to get them Friday and asked if I would hold for them till today ( Saturday ). I said OK but i needed to leave about 11:00/11:30. They told me they would be here no later than 10 am. No call and no show. Plus I told everyone else that asked about them they were claimed. I guess that was stupid on my part. Hopefully someone will still text so I can get them out of here.
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Ray its a bummer that you got burned for being a nice guy. It is unexcusible that they didn't have the courtesy to let you know when they weren't able to come.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Yesterday I listed a sofa and love seat on Craigslist for free...They told me they would be here no later than 10 am. No call and no show. Sorry you got treated like that, but from what I can tell, it's just about SOP for Craigslist respondents.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 The increasing number of scam robocalls from "charities" and "surveys" and "Microsoft".No, of course I don't answer this stuff, but it chaps my wrinkly old behind to come in every evening and find my voicemail filled up with offers of free cruises, credit-card-interest-rate-reductions (I cut up all my cards several years ago) and appeals from non-existent charities (or those legitimate ones who maybe get 5% of what the boiler-room bozos raise).I sure would like to see some teeth put in the laws that are supposed to regulate interstate telecommunications.

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 this is just one of the reasons why I chose not to keep a land line at my house, with my cell phone I can block the numbers so they get rejected.I can block them on my land line too, but I have to know which numbers are bogus to block them. And when they're blocked, the scammers just use different (probably spoofed) originating numbers.

And when they're blocked, the scammers just use different (probably spoofed) originating numbers. They do that for sure. I get calls and when I check the Caller ID, it says I am calling myself from the same number. I have also been getting a lot of calls from "The Sheriff's Office" looking for donations. I know the Sheriff and they are not calling folks looking for donations.I need to keep a land line here as I have spotty cell reception where I live. Edited February 14, 2017 by Xingu

Best thing to do is to list it with "no holds, first one to pick it up gets it".Check and see if there is a local charity that helps battered women in need of furniture, many times they will get there same day to pick it up AND give you a charity tax form. Helps people in need and no more idiots texting you.
NYLIBUD Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Oh the list is long, but for now,I would say all,so called "reality"shows. They are extremely annoying. You can't get away from them,if you are trying to watch tv.Another thing that annoys me,are the constant car commercials. Are you kidding me?Every time I put the tv on,boom there's another stupid car commercial.."You can save on this,or save on that.No money down".Bla bla...Also, the commercials where they say"I need cash now"And most of all,the commercials by a certain car,and home insurance company, that starts with a G....And whose spokes person just happens to be a certain green reptile, from across the pond....Im sure you know who I'am talking about...NO MORE!!!????Please.?
Mark Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Nothing real about "reality TV".If I ever ran into the gecko, he'd end up as a green smear on the underside of my shoe...
High octane Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I had a small window for a fall vacation, and found out today that it would have to be outside that window. That sucks as I already had plans before and after that "window." Oh well, life can be full of disappointments at times.

bobthehobbyguy Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Got rid of paid TV 3 years ago becuase of the drivel. When I watch my sisters house I find it challenging to find things to watch. Also I record everything on the dvr so I can skip the commercials.Never underdtood why I would want to buy insurance from a lizard, cartoon character , or a diner waitress but when you look at the state of things it doesn't surprise me
blunc Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 noticed after I got home from work this morning that something is fail about my car radiator, fluid runs out almost as fast as I put it in. and here I thought I was going to get some time to work on some models...
NYLIBUD Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Ha ha ha,??????Hey Mark,you said it.I can't stand that little green pompous lizard.(reptile).
10thumbs Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 noticed after I got home from work this morning that something is fail about my car radiator, fluid runs out almost as fast as I put it in. Ha! My 1st time with something like this as a teenager. Pulled out big brothers tools and a small torch and thought I could solder up some seams around the top of radiator housing. Yeah right. Lots of solder on those older junkyard parts. Found out though how to unsolder parts as well. A buddy came over and fixed things up. @mike, how did your ordeal turn out?
10thumbs Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) I'm really irked nowadays about an internet thing!More internet security is the name of the game.TOR is slower than a creeping Jesus.VPN!!Yeah, but I have a FRITZ!Box router, and this is a big pita. Been at it 2 days now and it looks like the cost of VPN was a total waste. Support sucks, and the tutorials about VPN for Windows is riddled with lacking and in-precise info. Domain Names and IP-changing issues have me biting into the keyboard. Can we say, money thrown out the window? Edited February 17, 2017 by 10thumbs

Found out though how to unsolder parts as well. A buddy came over and fixed things up. @mike, how did your ordeal turn out? well, about $200 later and I have a new replacement radiator and hoses. the car didn't overheat to I took a chance on the thermostat (which seems okay).I feel I got off cheap since I was able to do it myself, probably would have cost three times what I paid just for parts.there's really no good way to fix an aluminium core radiator without proper parts/tools (which I don't have).the most annoying part of the process is burping the air out of the system, one of the "air bleeds" is stuck and not recommended to be forced, the other requires the from of the car to be raised and multiple sessions of letting the air out after the engine has been properly warmed up.however, the operation was a success and the patient survived.
cobraman Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 So I gave away my living room furniture because my wife ordered some new stuff from Wayfair. She placed that order 3 weeks ago. We had notification about 2 weeks ago that it was shipped. Still not here. Wife called yesterday to inquire as to where it is. They said they would check and get back to her. They did but they told her they can't locate it. What ? How to you lose a large sofa and a love seat and a matching recliner ??? Thinking of just cancelling the order. Anyone else have a problem with Wayfair ?
Tom Geiger Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Ray, I've had good results giving things away on Craig's List. It was important when I lived in NJ and you had to pay extra to have a large item taken by the garbage company. Once we had a desk I listed for free, and someone didn't show up. I got mad and put it on for $100 and wouldn't ya know, someone came and paid it! When we left New Jersey we gave away most of our furniture as we bought all new for our Pennsylvania house. At our new house, there was a huge wood swing set... we found out it was actually two sets melded together. Put it up for free and two guys came and spent a whole day taking it apart and dragging it away. Saved me a lot of work!Last month my daughter got new living room furniture. I told her to put the old set on Craig's list. They had moved the old set out front to clean the carpet, and a neighbor knocked on the door asking if it was available. Gone! HomerS Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 A private all girl school is raffling off a GoldenDoodle. As a StepDad to four rescues myself, I think this is truly pathetic. Even the local shelters asked me for references, vet name and other questions to make sure the one I was adopting was going to a good home.....the last shelter even made the wife and I bring in the other threesome to the facility to ensure they would all get along. Just in the past couple months I've seen a handful of this breed end up at local rescues and shelters. No mention if the dog is fixed.I guess money talks.......
disabled modeler Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 What Irked me today... Some people are clueless to what others have to go through on a daily basis to get by....I guess they must think everyone is wealthy and can afford or do anything...? There are a lot of people that have to fight very hard for anything these days.
crazyjim Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I glued the interior into the body shell of the 427 Cobra I'm building. Used a piece of styrene rod as a shim. Slowly removing the tape today and it peeled some paint off the side of the body. I said some nasty words. Body & hood are soaking in brake fluid right now. Maybe tomorrow I get to do the antique copper paint job all over again.
cobraman Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Hey Jim. Sorry to hear about the problem with the Cobra paint. You will fix it. I'm about to start another Cobra myself.
