Oh man, I feel for you. Several years ago, we had neighbors on the east and west of us that had dogs. The guy to the east would come home from work and let the dog out and then keep it our all evening. All it would do is bark. This is the side of the house where our living room is. The idiots on the west let their dogs out for the night. They would bark all night long. This is the side of our house where our bedroom is. When we got home from work, until we left for work in the morning, all we heard was barking dogs. One's mind can go to some real dark places at times like these. The people on the west finally moved. The guy to the east got a girlfriend and she would not let the dog bark.

If that doesn't work, record their dog and play it back LOUD in the middle of the night. When they come over to tell you that your dog barks all night, tell them you don't own a dog it is a recording of what their dog does all day. It will either fix the problem or start a neighbor feud. Keep us posted. Haaa..I love the idea.I mean I'm not at home all day,it's just when my neighbors are out for a long time. And the dog isn't barking,he's crying and howling, which if u ever heard a dog crying, its such a terrible heart breaking sound. And there's another BIG dog that must be let out I guess before the guy goes to work.So sometimes at 6 am,I gotta hear another dog barking.Like I said,I love dogs, but not when they wake me up or howl and cry for hours.
Rob Hall Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) That sucks...I work from home, so I'm home all day so my dogs are pretty mellow and get outside in the back yard often when the weather permits. But sometimes I am out of the house all day...seems like they mostly sleep though. Edited February 19, 2019 by Rob Hall

Back when I first was married, we lived in an apartment that allowed pets. I had a job where I slept late, as I worked until early evening. The lady behind us would shove her poodle in the bedroom closet when she went to work in the morning so people wouldn't hear it barking all day. Guess whose closet that backed up to? Sounded like the friggin dog was in my closet! As I was trying to sleep.
NYLIBUD Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Man,I might as well have another baby running around my house. But again DOGS ARE GREAT.Just please shut up sometimes. And this is all new to us,cause for about the last 5 years or so,younger couples are moving in,and they got to have the latest dog(s).Oh yea,go to.
Rob Hall Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I never had a dog when I had an apartment or a condo, but I can see how that would be problematic. Having a house w/ a big fenced/walled yard is the only way I'll have pets.
peteski Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I have had dog problems with one of my neighbors ever since I moved into my house over 25 years ago. At this point they went through several dogs. They always have to have at least just one, and they are clueless - they let them out and don't let them back in for a long time (the dogs are out in the rain or cols barking away to be let back in). Or the kids would go to school, let the dog out and leave it until someone came home. Regardless of the weather. I am home during the day, so the barking really gets to me. They have been better lately, but not quite as good as it should be.

They have 6 dogs and keep them in pens but they get out and then there in my yard using the bathroom and getting into everything.....
crazyjim Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Why don't you people having critter issues just call the cops to complain?
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 The best course for animal issues is the county animal control. The police will not get involved with animal problems unless there is an immediate threat.
NYLIBUD Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 No I would never call the cops or any other authority like ASPCA,unless I got bit by a dog.I don't want to start a small war with any of my neighbors over some barking or crying dogs.I'll Just deal with it,I guess

I tend to doubt it (I'd guess either money or sex/infidelity would be #1), I'm just sayin' I read it somewhere.

espo Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 The basic problem is not the dog, it's the dog owner. To many dog owners don't realize their responsibility in the care and training of a dog. They train their children, after a fashion I guess, they need to do the same with their dogs. A very big part of that responsibility is providing the proper care, feeding, and shelter for their dog. They should not be left out for extended periods of time if it's to hot or extended periods of very cold weather. A dog being left to run a fenced yard while everyone is at work or school should have a covered area with plenty of water and at the very least a dog house so that they can get out of the elements as needed. The owners should realize that a dog in many ways is a lot like a 5 or 6 years old child. Would you leave a child running around lose in the sun or snow all day ?

A man I got to church with, let his dog run loose when it got out of the truck and the dog being young about a year went all over the neighbor. where he lived him and his neighbor was at odds about it but one day someone hit and killed his dog by accident . he lost his dog because he would not put him on a leash.. Tennessee has a leash law city and county...
NYLIBUD Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Well let's see,my phone fell, and shattered. Then to top that,my friend and I were working on my car today.Putting on new door handles. We only got a couple of them done.Well after we were done, and we tested the locks, locking the doors and windows,I left the keys in the car.My friend without realizing it,shuts the door, thus locking me out of my car.To make a long story short lol,we had to bust the passenger side window.A hammer wouldn't do it because I have bullet proof glass. Its an older Crown Vic police car..So then we thought about maybe cutting it with a glass grinder.Well It was working and then BAM,it shattered the window.Glass everywhere..So now I have to call the glass company tomorrow to come and fix my broken window.Life really sucks sometimes. But at least I did get in,and was able to drive home
NYLIBUD Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 So The glass company received the wrong glass today for the Crown Vic,of course,so they say.Now I have to wait a couple of more days to get the right glass .Yea yippee, great.

According to some real experts...the cops and detectives on the ID Channel...your second guess is closer to the truth. Over and over I've heard the same 3 reasons for almost all homicides: greed, sex, and revenge. Or some combo of those 3. Having said that, ID Channel used to run a show called "Fear Thy Neighbor." It was a real eye-opener. Some of the most petty things imaginable led to murder, houses being burned down, etc. I guess those come under the "revenge" category in the Big 3. Here's one of the worst examples, from Minnesota in 1996. A minor property-line dispute led a 72-yr-old man to kill his neighbor, the neighbor's wife, and 2 of their kids, aged 11 and 12. And himself. http://articles.latimes.com/1996-06-23/news/mn-17755_1_survey-stake
Tom Geiger Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Here's a good story... My daughter's birthday was Friday and my wife's was on Saturday. We were supposed to get together with my daughters to celebrate. But birthday daughter came down ill, so we postponed that celebration until next weekend. Still my wife wanted to go out to dinner and not to our usual watering hole... We picked out a new place that opened in September. Someone we spoke to recently recommended it. Casual restaurant, reasonable prices, comfort foods... so we go! We are greeted by a little snip at the hostess desk... "Reservations?" Um, no. I look around and the restaurant is half full. She then gives us a look of disgust and tells us all of those tables are reserved for people coming in the next 15 minutes. She walks off into the dining room with a tablet to count her empty tables. The best she can do is sit us at the worst table in the place right next to the front door. We are standing near the front door and were getting a blast of arctic air every time someone opened the door, so no we aren't sitting there. She tells us she has already assigned all these empty tables to each reservation. I ask what kind of lunacy is it to pre-assign spaces for people who may never show up... or for people who may want to sit in a different part of the room? I'm very ticked at this chick's attitude about now, and my wife knows I'm about to give it to her. She squeezes my hand. I was ready to leave when I saw there was a bar and the seats were mostly empty. I ask if we can sit at the bar, and the girl says yes we can... so we do. We go to order beers to find that they have some abbreviated "exhibition beer license" and only have 4 choices of on tap beer from some brewery we've never heard of. The guy who explains this to us introduces himself as the owner and he gives us a shot glass of each of these 4 choices and they all taste like ear wax or worse. So we choose the least awful and are brought two little brandy glasses for $7 each. We are not having fun. We order meals and I will say their fish and chips was very good and they gave way too much food! So we are eating and trying to nurse these mini beers. It's an hour later and the restaurant is still half empty! The owner comes over to chat and I lay into him! I let him know that his hostess is turning people away... I'm sitting at the bar where I can see the front door and people leaving! I tell him that his hostess staff should be astute enough to know that a percentage of reservations are no-show and if the place is half empty she can squeeze one couple in. I let him know we were nearly out the door when I asked about the bar... how come she didn't suggest that? He was a bit flabbergasted and went into the tail spin of defending his place. I let him know that he may be full for the first six months or so while new, but that newness will die down and he'll be looking for all those customers his hostess sent away. I add that the last two places in town that ticked me off are no longer in business! As we finish my wife says she wants cheesecake and Irish coffee for her birthday. I remind her that this place doesn't have liquor. She looks at me and says, "Let's go to Ron's for desert". So we head off to our favorite local watering hole. We got two seats right at the bar with the bartenders who know our names and what we drink! And we washed away that awful experience with our favorite beers. My wife got her desert and Irish coffee and desert was free because it was her birthday! Catastrophe averted! (I'm no longer irked, just thought I'd share a good story)
cobraman Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 I would imagine most of us have run into greeters that seem bothered they have a customer to seat. I have walked out of more than a couple of places for this reason. Too many other places to eat that are happy to have me as a customer and take my money.

(I'm no longer irked, just thought I'd share a good story) We had al most the same thing happen when our favorite Mexican Restaurant closed after the owner retired. We had been going there for over 20 years and the place was always jam packed. The new owners went in and did the usual clean up and paint. We went in just after the grand opening and got the same treatment as you did. We didn't realize the dinning area was so empty until we had waited for over an hour because we were told that they were busy. The dinning room portion was down a half flight of stairs and out of sight. You could hear an echo when you talked back there. The food still had water running out of it from being heated in the Microwave and the Beer was flat. We also will not be back.
Tom Geiger Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) David, there are two other area restaurants that willed themselves out of business! One of them had advertised a big buffet for Mothers Day. We had a reservation. We arrive, just four of us.. my wife and I, and our two daughters in their late 20s and we are immediately whisked through the empty dining room to a small dark room in the back. I recognized this as the closet where they kept unused tables and chairs. They had the accordion doors open and had put several tables in there... two huge tables on either side, and one table for four in the middle. The room, er closet, was long and narrow... only one table wide! They had set up this extra substandard area in anticipation of a big day! I ask for a better table and the little snip hostess tells us that is our assigned table and all the other tables are already assigned to other reservations. I calmly ask why people who are arriving late would be given the preferred seating... it was a bright sunny day and the sun filled the main area... she just shrugged and said seats were assigned when the reservations were made. I asked for the manager and she tells me SHE is the manager. I'm ready to let her have it and walk out and my wife and daughters pleaded with me to not make a scene (I am good at that!) and that they didn't want to leave since it was Mothers Day and we would have a problem finding another place to eat. They wanted to make the best of it. So I sat. The large tables on either side of us were filled with large extended families with little kids in tow. So suddenly it became loud with kids chatter and crying. A couple of them ran around the room, bumping into our chairs. It just sucked! As we were there for less then two hours, the main room remained empty. And their buffet was marginal at best. The main dishes they had advertised were quickly emptied and they were slow to refill anything. Note that the restaurant was maybe half full, so they either underestimated the food or were just plain stingy. We vowed never to go there again! And I put a pox on the business! A few weeks later I pass by and notice that the building is empty and the sign is down. Good for them! A short time later I drive by and they are knocking down the building! I didn't know my pox was that effective! Edited February 26, 2019 by Tom Geiger

Reminds me of a story-- Many years ago I had a rental property (the same one my daughters recently occupied) and I had a long standing tenant. I get a town summons in the mail for excessive dog barking overnight. I call my tenant and he's surprised. His dog had died a year earlier. He had no dog. I call the town code enforcement, and they are sympathetic but tell me I must appear in municipal court. So my tenant and I did so. He showed his last dog license, and the bill from the vet for putting the dog to sleep. The judge found us innocent.
HomerS Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Two of the furry foursome made a break for it this a.m. I let them out for their morning sit down and only the two females came in. Brian (aussie/husky mix) is almost always the first one at the door but this morning apparently he and the Jack Russell mix (Turner) got out through a faulty piece of fence. Oddly they ran towards the construction of the new school (neither are fond of loud noises) and we found them about 3/4 of a mile away still hanging together like Max and Duke from Secret Life of Pets. Can a dog buy a lottery ticket? How many times can one dog (Turner) cheat death? 1) Dropped at a rural shelter in a pet carrier on a 90 degree day but at the wrong door so he somehow survived almost 24 hours in that 2) No one ever came to claim him so had the rescue not taken him, his 'time' was up 3) Coyote got into the yard and he was first to go after it. The aussie (Jamie) saved his like although the other two joined that fight 4) He bit a neighbor that he's known for 5+ plus years when she reached over to pet him on the nose. She is a huge dog lover and never made a stink over it 5) Had a fatty, rapidly growing mass on his neck.....vet removed and not cancer 6) Today, ran away and found 3/4 mile away and made his break during the school drop off so he crossed two streets both within 100 feet of a school
Tom Geiger Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 My Ted never ran away. We don't have a fenced in yard, but we'd let him out the back door and he'd roam the property. He'd never venture further than the sidewalk, and in short order he'd appear back at the door waiting to be let in. He knew where his couch was! He died a couple of years ago. I miss Ted!
