Ace-Garageguy Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) Bloody talking-head TV "journalist" reporting on the fire aboard the Bonhomme Richard not knowing the difference between "ordnance" and "ordinances". Kinda like kit designers not being able to measure and divide accurately. If you get PAID to do something, try to do it right. Oh...wait...using the right word and being able to do simple arithmetic is hard. Wah wah wah. Seeing one of our Harrier carriers burning is kinda irksome too, and of course the interdwerb is awash with know-nothing morons commenting on it. https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2020/07/12/amphibious-assault-ship-ablaze-in-port-san-diego/ Edited July 13, 2020 by Ace-Garageguy
DonW Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Thanks Rob and Joe for the info, it's interesting to hear how these things are done in different places.
oldnslow Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 Got the final estimate on the Crown Vic , 2 estimates within $100 of each other = totaled , , now to decide if we really need 3 cars .
slusher Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 (edited) I saw a model that a so called friend had the 1:1 of and for a little while made me angery. I use to go out of my way and pick him up and carry him home. And while I was married to my x wife he hit on her. Well never had anything ever to do with him. He was always broke. Does anyone ever have had so called memories like that... Edited July 14, 2020 by slusher

You didn't specify what you were driving, and I don't know you well enough to know what you drive. When you posted this originally about the quarter being pushed to the side, I immediately thought "totaled" unless whatever you were driving was worth at least $20k and had no possibility of unseen damage. Sorry to hear about this. I have an old POS that I occasionally drive that is probably worth $2k to an insurance company, but would cost me $5k to replace.
oldnslow Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 (edited) Ours is a 04 Crown Vic LX Sport , black with gray leather , really nice car , my wife's ride , well taken care of , now it's a parts car for someone . This would be ideal to upgrade the interior in an interceptor model . As we did maintenance on it over the years , we upgraded the suspension parts , slotted and drilled rotors , limo air bags and shocks , limo radiator and larger throttle body . Really going to miss it This isn't mine , but what it looks like , still looks like this from this angle . Edited July 14, 2020 by oldnslow

Find a used model in need of the upgrades you have and just move them over. Should you be able to do this your self it would be just your labor, if you have to have someone else do it then it may not be that good of an idea. Since they're totaling this make the insurance company find you a comparable car and they eithwer buy it for you or give you what it would cost to buy. To many times insurance companies will try and give you something back of wholesale value for the old car. You were paying retail for your insurance so they should be giving you retail value for the totaled car.
NYLIBUD Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 (edited) Very Nice car. This doesn’t irk me,I just saw your CV,so I thought I’d show you mine.Maybe the only thing about this car that does bother me is the bad gas mileage with the 4.6 H/O..I guess I’m just use to 6 cylinders most of my life..This is my 09 CV interceptor, formerly an FBI car.Full police package.Flowmasters, cold air KnN intake. And a few other little things.Front air dam, mini spoilers, tinted head and tail lights gives it a real sinister look...I love this car.You tap the gas,and you gone.Plus everybody stays away from me on the road. All the police lighting lights are in the car,but of course they’re all disconnected. No spot light. These are great cars.I wanted a Marauder, but I just couldn’t find a nice one W/O 200K+ on it...And it drives like a smooth caddy.. slusher Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Those are great cars. Slowly disappearing from the roads...
oldnslow Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Unfortunately , I'm of the age , 69 , where I can't physically do the work any more or I'd really consider doing just that . We have our eye on a similar car , gray metallic , and lower mileage , 86K , in our area . Now just waiting on the insurance co to make an offer and decide if we really need 3 vehicles .

A suggestion on your poor gas mileage. Put a block of wood under the gas pedal. I know it's really hard to drive a car of this nature and not try and stretch its tires from time to time.
crazyjim Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Just got notified via email that Scale Auto will be no more as of October 2020. That leaves us model car people with NOTHING!

When the content goes away, what's the point of "supporting" any publication? I expect actual value for money. When I find I'm paying primarily for advertising pages and dumbed down regurgitated content, I withdraw my "support". Knowing what I do of what contributors to mags get paid, it's certainly not a financial inability to attract competent writer/photographers that is to blame for declining content. It's just not trying very hard. You have to have fresh, useful content so people will buy the dammed thing to see the ads. Lousy content, mostly ads, no "supporters". Pretty simple really.

There offering fine scale modeler for the subscription remainder. Is fine scale modeler any good?
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 For me the loss of scale auto is a disappointment but not something I considered an irk. There are far too many other things that irk me. Number one is the fact that people are not making an effort to contain the virus. As a result a lot of people have unnecessarily died or been made unnecessarily sick(some with long term effects). In addition there has been and will be a lot of financial hardship for many people. The virus could have been a catalyst for the best of humanity to come out. Rather than the worst of humanity. Will we ever learn?

I am not irked about it. I really agree with you Bob..

If you’re interested in making models of aircraft, tanks and fantasy stuff like dragons, sure! Ill be interested to see how they incorporate the automotive stuff into FSM, but I can’t see it being more than 3 or 4 pages worth per issue
NYLIBUD Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Wait.no more SAE after October, that sucks.?They also got rid of “Muscle car Review”Thankfully “Hemmings Muscle Machines”is still around and my Jeep magazine “JP,All Jeeps”.And Well Theres always this website.?? NYLIBUD Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Having a new roof put on my house this morning. The workers started at 7:30 am.They are right above my room and it sounds like they’re gonna come crashing through my ceiling ?????
Tom Geiger Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Yea Ron, you certainly feel them up there! I had roof and siding replaced on my house a few years ago.. my advice? Take all the pictures off your walls and contain anything likely to move from vibration. In the end you’ll probably have pop nails and some cracks in walls and ceilings.
Snake45 Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 In six and a half decades, I've never heard the past tense of the verb "cost" as anything other than "cost." In the last 24 hours, I've encountered a new word, "costed," three times--once on TV and twice in one edition of a new magazine. Also getting tired of hearing about "unchartered" territory, waters, etc. The word is uncharted, folks. Also, the past tense of "sink" is "sank." Not "sunk." Saw it misused not just once but twice in subtitles for a major motion picture the other night (Midway). "Exponentially" seems to be the new "literally." When you hear it, it's just used for the sake of using a big word, and doesn't mean that at all. (And there's a prominent political person who uses it frequently, and cannot even pronounce it, saying "expodentially," which I don't believe is even an actual word.)

Just poor journalism with nonsensical sentences. I don't remember which outlet it was, but during the Bubba Wallace issue, he was described as, "NASCAR's only full-time black driver". Literally, that would mean that there are other drivers that are black part of the time, but he is the only driver that is black all of the time. "NASCAR's only black full-time driver" was the message they were trying to convey, I think....
