Tim W. SoCal Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) People who post "informational" or "educational" on-line videos who know VERY little about the subject they're attempting to demonstrate. For example, I watched a video this morning of a model car kit unboxing where the host identified a vintage Chevy Rochester Fuel Injection unit as a "turbocharger" and the headlight buckets as "Baby Moon Hubcaps". I have also seen WAY TOO MANY automotive "how to" videos presented by self proclaimed "mechanics" that, in all actuality, don't possess the skills to properly air up a bicycle tire. Maybe the old adage "it is better to be thought of as a fool..." should be revised to "it is better to remain an unknown fool than to post ignorant, ill informed on-line videos and remove all doubt." I see more and more of this too. I am surprised by how many older Modelers seem to have no clue what the part they are holding is! I get not being all that well versed on Cars but, Some folks seem to be just aware enough to know the Body from the Chassis. Oddly some of them build very nice Models, but don't know much about the subject. But, You can always learn new techniques, at least. And this seem also not to be nearly as big a problem with Armor, Naval and Aircraft Modelers. Due to level of interest in the Subject, perhaps. That said, I hear one more guy on YouTube call Horizontal Stabilators and Elevators on a Plane the "Tail Wings", I'll scream. 😂 Edited January 5 by stavanzer 1 1
LennyB Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Last month purchased a steering wheel for my '67 Galaxie project off of eBay. A few days after paying for it the seller says he can't find it. Gives me a refund and says they will let me know if they find it. Two weeks later they found it and long story short it's now on my project. Needed an item for another project. Same seller had it. Bought and paid for it and then the seller tells me they can't find it. Is this like the old story: Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me?

You have to give them the 'benefit of the doubt' the first time........... A steering wheel is a small part..... After that, though......

We are forecasted to get 10" total, but 5" to 6" so far. I'm hoping it'll continue, I want to try to tackle one of those cool snow people you teased us with..⛄️

Supposed to freeze overnight, though............. Calvin and Hobbes is right up there with Far Side as my favorite comic strips! 1
A modeler named mike Posted January 6 Posted January 6 More of an understandable disappointment than an irk.. the mailman was to deliver the newly released AMT '64 Olds F-85 AWB kit today, but Mother Nature had other ideas.. snowflakes galore..

LennyB Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have snow right now that we weren't expecting. Just 2" but still coming down 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 7 Posted January 7 (edited) Kinda half irked and half pleased. Friday A chance of snow before 1pm, then rain and snow. High near 36. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Friday Night Rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow before 1am, then a chance of snow and freezing rain. Low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 90%. According to the NWS forecast, it looks like I'll get my snow day Friday, and I'm just not going anywhere 'round here with the way these people drive on anything frozen. Probably ought to put the truck all the way up on the lawn too, so's some numbnutz doesn't slide into it in the driveway "on accident" as they say now. HOWEVER...it looks like later we'll get a "wintry mix", which means freezing rain, which means almost for certain a huge dead limb is going to come down and take out either 1) my power line from the pole, or 2) my 2-axle trailer. Time to move the trailer and lay in a supply of candles, batteries, and propane, 'cause last time the same line went down, I was in the dark 3 days. Edited January 8 by Ace-Garageguy
Bugatti Fan Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) No dedicated Motor Cycle section on this forum. A bit annoying having to wade through aircraft, afv, science fiction, figures and so on to find any threads about bikes. Big rigs have their own thread, but as they are not cars as the title of this forum implies, why should motor bikes be segregated? They are mainly civvy vehicles like big rigs after all ! bobthehobbyguy Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) My irk actually started on Monday. Noticed a bit of a twinge in my right knee. Usually it's the left. I managed to finish the job on it sleeping Monday to Tuesday. Had a couple of errands to do yesterday and it wasn't too bad. However this morning was a royal painfest. Took a strong painkiller and that seems to be helping. Was suppose to go to the doctor this am but I'm going to have to cancel as I can barely move around and getting in and out of the car is out of the question. Going to try to get some bench time but I also need to move some or it really hurts when I do get up. Also I will need to give my primary Doctor a call to see what I can do to keep this from getting a lot worse. Edited January 8 by bobthehobbyguy

Joint pain that seems to come out of nowhere can really ruin your outlook. Edited January 8 by Ace-Garageguy TYPO 1
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Thanks Bill. I know you've had your share of pain issues. I had had problems with my left knee a while back however this is even worse. The slightest movement on the knee is extremely painful. Just had to take a second pain pill to hopefully get some relief. Been shuffling around the house to keep moving some becuase it really hurts if I lay down and get up or sit in a chair for a bit. Hopefully the pain pills will help but I'm not a big fan of using them. First order of business will be giving my doctor a call this morning and maybe do a tele conference. At this point driving is out of the question becuase of the pain and pain pills.

I feel your pain but I believe the answer is "popularity". As you likely know by searching the forum for motorcycle models, they make up very small fraction of the posts. Not enough to warrant splitting them up into separate section. Back when they reshuffled the forum's categories few years ago I was also not thrilled that they got rid of the large scale section. it was nice to be able to just browse the large scale models (and there were not that many of them either). I also was not fond of getting rid of the separate big-rig subsections, merging them into the various general sections.
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The alternative to a separate section would be by using tags. One could then search tags for motorcycle.

Bob I don’t know if this is an option for you but my good arm started really hurting when my right was broke, hurt to move it instead of pills every 6 to 8 months I get a cortisone shot and I’m fine for months I see a bone and joint Dr. I hope this helps.. 1
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Thanks Bill and Carl. Talked to my primary Doctor yesterday by phone. He said my knee issue is caused by gout which was caused by the diuretics I was taking for the edema issues. Fortunately it's been a lot better this morning. Also i just got the gout prescription this am and that will also help.
Falcon Ranchero Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Getting a part time job around here is actually stupid. You simply can not hand in a resume in person. After doing it online at various stores and never getting a call or anything, I figured why not just go on in to try that way. Checked online and it said that the Dollarama, for instance, actually prefers in person resumes. No no no, that’s a big fat lie. There are 5 in town, went to two and they told me the same old story, apply online. THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN DOING FOR MONTHS. So I don’t know. Makes you wonder how in the world they actually hire people at these stores. Thinking about checking back with the library as it was the first place I applied to, back in April and they accept hand in resumes and are super nice about it too. 1
RSchnell Posted January 12 Posted January 12 The price of eggs. Stopped at the Groceteria earlier with a list of my normal provisions. Everything's great until I get to the eggs. $6 for a dozen? Really? I know there's some new bird flu or whatever, but Christ! Jesse James used a gun when he robbed people. Ended up going with the cage free 18 count which was a dollar cheaper than the normal dozen. I miss growing up where we had acreage for 5 different types of citrus & watermelon, we had a vegetable garden at the house in town, our neighbor out in the country raised & processed cattle. the local Model T guy hooked us up with eggs from his egg farm. The only thing we bought at the store was stuff like condiments, bread, etc. Henry Ford said it best in 1932 "With one foot in agriculture and foot in industry America is safe". 1 1
stavanzer Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Bought an 18 pack of eggs this morning for 13.56! Yep, almost 14 dollars! the Dozen was 7.85. 1
