I was excited to snag a nice MPC '74 Road Runner annual at a decent price because I didn't have one in the stash

Of course I already have multiples of the '73 annual, '83 MPC reissue, RC2 in regular and checkerboard box as well as the Round 2 MPC Daisy Duke versions

Does anybody else like to have different versions of the same kit? (even if some are better and others the same inside the box)

Rather than different versions of the same kit, I prefer to buy multiples of the same kit. Whenever I stop by Hobby Lobby and they're available, I pick up the '25 T Double Kit from Round 2 and the '34 Ford Tow/Stake Pickup from Lindberg. Getting quite a little stock now.

I buy multiples of those kits that I like the subject. Jeeps, Chevy Pickups, Camaros, etc.

Now, if I could only get a couple of them built...... :D

Definitely...I've bought reissues of various kits that I built as originals or previous reissues in the past, and would like to do them again in a different style. As for new releases, I often get multiples if I'm interested in building multiple variations of a subject...like the new Hemi Cuda--3 so far, ideas for 4 more (though i may wait and see what the 2nd issue is).

I am guilty of buying kits because I had enjoyed them in the past, hope that the new box art means that there is something new and improved in side. Some times I get an idea for a build while looking at what's on the shelf and buy it, get it home and then forget that I already had several of these. Now I find I have more kits than I will ever have time to build. Now Revell has this new Mercury "Woody" that I just have to have. Moebius has a '61 Catalina that I will have to have, and I just saw the "HOT ROD" version of the '51 Olds that I'll need to pick up also. I think I may have a substance abuse problem. It's called styrene and I'm not sure there is a cure.

Yep, I have bought I would say I a case of Aoshimas Toyota 86 kits, all the different variation they have done

When Lindberg released the Crown Vic Police kit, I bought a case right off the bat, plus I think close to another case over the years, same with Revells Caprice Police kit

And back in the NASCAR kit days, I bought more then I count of them too

I have only done it by accident. Bought a kit, got it home, then realized I already had one. Never did it on purpose. Not near enough modeling funds to be able to.

I don't like to build a kit unless I have an extra to use for reference or do overs. For instance, I'm working on a Dodge Little Red Wagon with a Jimmy Flintstone resin van body. I had already glued the engine cover into the interior but needed to cut carpet for the back. So I grabbed my extra kit and traced the spare engine cover onto the carpet. Made the job much easier. And if I screw up a part, I just grab one from the spare kit.

I did an inventory and found I had 6-12 copies of some of my favorite kits. Not bought for full freight at hobby shops, but cheap at shows and club meetings. I'm a sucker for that $5-10 kit. Put a $5 1950s or 1960s pickup kit in front of me and my reflex is to reach for my wallet. Only when I did inventory I found I had better than a dozen of the Revell 1950 Ford pickup and AMT 55-67 Chevy Pickups.

Kits that I like I buy lots of. Revell Lowrider/donk Cadillac.... Ive got 3 cases of them. Revell 2010 Camaro SS.... I owned a real Camaro, so I bought a case and a half of them.... plan what I wanted to do to my 1:1 and build variances.... Same with the Dodge Magnum, I have a 1:1 .... so I bought lots of the models. Generally kits I really like Ill buy a case of just to have on hand, for if I get other ideas, etc.

My biggest offender so far is the MPC 73-87 Chevy pickup kits. I have almost the entire run, plus doubles of most of the issues.

well, I feel there are a couple of reasons to buy multiple kits. 1 is kit bashing, buying the kit strictly for the parts inside. I do 90% pro street cars, so I have duplicates of the p/s super bee, 67 chevelle, some of the pro stock drag kits. I will buy glue bombs and incomplete kits just to get certain parts from these kits.

another reason is to build different versions of a certain car. take the new 70 cuda, you can build it as a hemi, 440+6, 340 even down to a 6 cylinder build, drag, pro street. I know myself I will want a hemi, 440+6 and a pro street version. so I need 3 kits.... plus a few more for whatever strikes my fancy later.

just my 2 cents

I would love to but rarely can... For me it would be...

60s Station wagons

campers

4 doors

early to mid 70s Dodge vans

Johan kits..even snap tite ones

Any 60s long big bodied cars

Never get tired of them.

When the 55 chevy 2dr sedan came out in 1990?, I bought 2 cases (24). I built 13, all in different colors and have since then bought 2 more of the re-issues. Now that Revellogram has the hardtop, I have 6 of them. And 11 converts.

I Love This!!! I love '55s having owned 3 full size ones, my first car was a '55 Chevy. I purchased 4 when AMT first released the 2dr sedan and brought them home on an airplane from California. For some reason I didn't think we would ever get them in Indiana. lol I also bought multiples of the Monogram '37 Ford for the same reason, I owned 2 full size. Others I can think of are the '50 Chevy pickup (6), '53 Corvette (6), '34 Ford pickup (6) and AMT double T kits. Six seems to be the number for me most of the time.

Only when new parts have been added or old parts restored to the kit. I have two Revell '67 Charger kits, but I bought a Foose reissue because I wanted that shaker.

The only car kit I can think of in my collection that isn't a substantially different issue is the AMT 62 Bel Air drag version, I have 2 different decal versions.

I have both the Revell 62 Impalas (SS and non-SS), both 57 Fords (stock and NASCAR), both 62 Corvettes (stock and gasser), both AMT 70 1/2 Camaros (Z/28 and Baldwin Motion), those are all the ones I can think of that share the same basic body shell between 2 kits.

I've bought 2 Revell 49 Merc customs, but only had one at a time.

Airplanes, on the other hand, I must have at least 6 Tamiya 1/48 P-51D's, and 3 or 4 P-51B's. 3 or 4 of their P-47's. I have at least a dozen different decal sheets for each of those.

Tanks, too, I have 3 of DML's first-issue late Tiger 1 (I wish now I'd waited for the newer one with molded-on Zimmerit) and I don't know how many various-mark Shermans I have in 35th and 48th, probably 20? I'm a bit of a Shermaniac...

I have several duplicate kits, like the '60 Starliner. It's a great kit built straight out of the box or as a chassis/drivetrain donor for like the '61 or '63 Galaxie. I always have lots of Mustang kits and just about every pickup.

When people buy me a kit for Christmas or something, they tell me they had a hard time picking a kit out. They want to get me a kit I don't have. I tell them if it's out there I have at least one, or it's a kit I wouldn't want. They always say "why do you want two of the same kit?" I come back with " You go to a 1:1 car show and see 3 or 4 '69 Camaros, None of them are the same."

I have around 500 kits, I have plans for every one of 'em, whether I'll build it or use it for parts.

My wife thinks I'm crazy, but at least I'm home.

I've got 6 or 7 of the Revell '57 Chevy 210 sedan plus about 4 of the 150/ Black Widow sedan,4 of the '49 Mercury custom(plus 4 or 5 of the AMT version),4 of the Tamiya Lotus 99T(plus 3 built ups) plus a lot more multiples of various kits.I pick them up at discount from Hobby Lobby or Michael's or at cheap prices at toy shows. With about 1200 kits I've been slacking off buying kits lately.I'm running short on storage space.
