JollySipper
I don't know how to post a link, but The Cardigans did a cover of "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. Kind of Surreal with the lyrics being sung in her soft voice.... Fu Manchu has covered BOC's "Godzilla" too, it's pretty good. I have a playlist on Napster that's nothing but covers... Tom Geiger
On Monday we were sitting at the bar enjoying Happy Hour at our favorite watering hole. A couple in our age group was sitting next to us, and "Jumping Jack Flash" was playing. They were debating that it didn't sound like Mick Jagger... So I told them it was Peter Frampton's version. They laughed and we wound up friends with them for the evening.

Classicgas
Check out Apologetix on youtube. They do covers of all sorts of stuff from the 60's to more current stuff.
Richard Bartrop
A cover of a famous song, but in this case, it's the cover version that's the best known one. Nick Lowe did this song first, but Elvis Costello did it better. On the other hand, most people are familiar with Happy Mondays' version of this song, but John Kongos did it first, and best. Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and Linda Ronstadt all did vastly superior covers of it.
iamsuperdan
I discovered this bizarre gem last weekend. Tori Amos doing a very haunting and unique version of Slayer's Raining Blood. Here's the original for those unaware. I like them both.
STYRENE-SURFER
The "Stone Coyotes" version of an old "Dolly Parton" song. I really like this band, Tight roots punk with a bluesy country THANG. Full concert here... Oh, heck yah, just play this loud ! Snake45
Jolene is absolutely my all-time favorite Dolly Parton song, no matter who's singing it. Thanks all for the great covers! Now, in a similar vein.... Here's a more modern song in the same vein. Different song completely, different style, but absolutely the same theme, same message:

Richard Bartrop
That Elvis Costello video was shot in Stanley park in Vancouver. I used to live in the area, and I recognized the totem poles.

Jantrix
Check out a band called Tragedy on YouTube. They do metal versions of old Beegees tunes. The music is fun and they don't take themselves very seriously. It's a hoot.

That entire album (Duran Duran - Thank You) is actually really solid. It's not really a cover per se, but if you head over to You Tube, look up the "shred" songs. This guy reworks videos. And it cracks me up.

Almost as if Bowie had written and recorded this song about the time of Aladdin Sane. Still, I definitely prefer EC's original on this one.
