Yeah, the whole point of RPP is to give brick and mortar shops a head start against the internet guys.

I can't buy one for myself until our regular stock comes in , but I did take the shrink off one of our RPP  stock. Was really surprised to see the red pinstripe pre-painted on the wheels. Nice touch! I'm not going to open up the inner bags because I have to sell this but here are a couple sneak peeks.

Now THAT is cool!

I snapped a few quick pics of the Olds at the NNL East yesterday at the Revell table. Now understand that this is a pre-production buildup and is not perfect. All looks good so far from what I see though!

I think I've stated it before, but I'll say it again: I'm totally fine with the slightly reduced parts count/simplification in kits like this, so long as Revell nails the basic body and proportions.  If it looks correct sitting on my shelf, I'm good.  From Bill's pics, this sure looks pretty good to me...

I picked one up at my LHS yesterday. Much nicer kit than I expected. Too bad about the hood - I'd much rather have a flat hood, but I'll deal with it.

Knowledgeable sources have indicated the next version of this tool will be a 442 (I believe they say it will be a 1985), with the option of building it as an FE3-X (prototype created by Olds with ground effects package, never offered for production).  The 442s did not have the add on power bulge, so that version should offer a basic flat hood.

Does indeed come with the 'Cuda bias-plies.  Moebius '65 Belvedere tires actually look like new tires that might be found on one of these, so I'm wondering about a straight swap - Polyglas GTs will be a little less anachronistic on the Belvedere and they're only a tiny bit large for the wheels. Moebius radials should be good and snug on the Olds.

Thanks for the tire information Chuck, might have to place an order with Chief Joseph at Fireball for some of his resin Goodyears or Radial T/As.

Actually, it's a little worse even than all that - Revell has in its own inventory tires from the '77 Smokey & The Bandit Firebird, a generic Eagle-flavored radial that's perhaps a jot narrow but otherwise much better-suited for this model, if only the wheels were tooled for 'em - they're just a bit loose, but they'll also work if you're willing either to trash the Firebird kit or find other rubber for it.

Then again, Chief Joe's got good wares.  Might even be able to dial 'em in exactly for the Olds, huh?

Firebird tires woulda been a much less jarring in-box solution than the bias-plies, but what do I know - I'm just a consumer.

That build up looks gorgeous!!!!!!! The only thing I would change is, I like a deeper wheel. Gonna be fun figuring out how to make them deeper without damaging the centers or losing that prestriped wheel ring!

Yea, those wheels look a dead ringer for the 14 inch ones that were on my front wheel drive '84 Ciera. Revell seems to have a problem making wheels with proper depth to them.

I mentioned the hood issue to Ed. He took interested note and said that movht be addrein future releases.

I've heard that there could be an FE-X (?) and a plain 442 version in the future. I'm still very pleased with the kit, and looking forward to building it.

Got one today. I give it a "B" if for no other reason than attempting to recreate 1986 all over again.  Lying the Olds next to parts from either the GN or M.C. SS will produce a rush of mistalgia for the good ole days. The exhaust mufflers & cat, and rear gear pinion is hollow just like in 1/24 Monogram style.

The overall engraving level in the 1980s was also far superior than today with the engine bay, door panel inserts and dashboard all being much crisper and finer detail than the kit I bought today.

All in all it'll make a shelf model that more or less looks like an '83 Cutlass, but leaves me yearning for a lot more.

I will agree the engraving could'be been a bit heavier, but we had two of these cars continously from 1987-2003, and to my eye, they absolutely nailed the body, and that's good.

The simplified parts/parts-count doesn't bother too much. As long as the parts look good put together and detail out well. I thought the overall appearance of everything was quite good, and with some care and patience, a very nice model will result.

There's one on ebay that started a $10.00 and is now at $59.89 with two days to go! But you'll have to bid 60 + and still might not win the Revell 83 Hearst Oldsmobile

or be patient and wait a bit longer and get one from one of the online retailers in another week or two for half that!

I'm guessing those bidders don't have a hobbyshop nearby, can't understand that at all!

I paid $20 for mine at my LHS.

Luck man, None of the Hobby sops I went to has any. I wish I'd have one but I'll have to wait I guess. My plans are to remove the hump in the hood and replace that area with a same sized piece from a 86 Monte Carlo's hood.

Mine has a few on order for me and a couple of other customers and one or two for stock.

Should be here week's end.
