Brett Barrow Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Changes to make it stock. Or just wait. I have no doubt there will be a follow-up stock (or donk/lowrider) version.
1930fordpickup Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 THAT'S what I'd like to see! Better yet, and this is probably a pipe dream--------a 1976-77 Cutlass Supreme which was my Driver's Ed car in high school! The first car I paid for and drove down the road. 500 bucks in 85, sure could smoke the rear tire. That would be good to build one of these.
Luc Janssens Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Flat Hmm....will have to open them up and use some leftover, Monogram '79 Mustang headlight buckets, fit to size, will see if it works when I receive my copy.
mikemodeler Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 something tells me we will have a flat hood for this kit soon. A set of wire wheel hubcaps wouldn't be a bad idea either. I already have some ideas floating around in my head for multiple versions.
bismarck Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) Just got my Olds in the mail today. i see getting more of these kits depending on the follow on versions, most definitely!! Edited April 30, 2016 by bismarck
Ben Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Thank you for posting those pictures!!!! Any chance we can see the tires? I know, I know, some people are never happy! LOLI'm just curious which tires Revell used.
Ben Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Those shallow wheels are killin me! It's lookin like a beautiful model could be built straight out of the box but I would have to have deeper rims! Even if it means putting them in my lathe and painting the red stripe by hand!
niteowl7710 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Thank you for posting those pictures!!!! Any chance we can see the tires? I know, I know, some people are never happy! LOLI'm just curious which tires Revell used. The tires are the worst part of this kit being the bias ply tires out of the '70 Cuda. A real head scratcher if you ask me. Sure they didn't have a tire in inventory to use for this kit, but considering there's at least one other version of the kit coming and the potential of doing other 1980/1990s cars down the road (a Grand Prix to round out the G-Bodys would be nice for example) investing a couple of bucks into a new appropriate tire tooling would have been a smart investment in the long run.
gasman Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Looks like the next issue of that kit will be the FE3-X.
Rob Hall Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 They forgot the '84 in that illustration...the last Hurst/Olds (always liked the silver and black paint scheme).
1972coronet Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 They forgot the '84 in that illustration...the last Hurst/Olds (always liked the silver and black paint scheme). I don't wonder if it was some dealer brochure and / or a Hurst promo from 1983 ; perhaps even a calendar (note the stapled crease just below the '83's photo) ?
dshue76 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) I haven't got a kit yet but a note on the wheels, they were only a 7" wide wheel and had 4 1/2" backspacing. That amount of backspacing really makes them look narrower. They were also a 15" wheel. They also had no trim ring, They were chrome so it was unnecessary. Also 215/65-15 Good Year GT radials would be the correct tire.I have heard they plan to do the FE3-X and an 85 442. The 442 would have the correct hood for all 81-88 cars that weren't a H/O. This kit does represent a SHOWROOM STOCK 1983 Hurst Olds. Edited May 1, 2016 by dshue76
ranma Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Maybe the next issue will be a three in one? It could have a flat hood for a stock/442 Olds, the FE3-X hood and ground effects , plus the Hurst hood and spoilers. Decals for a 442/Hurst. Throw in three different types of rims, for the tires to choose from.
Rob Hall Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 This kit does represent a SHOWROOM STOCK 1983 Hurst Olds.It is humorous all the posts that talk about changes to make a 'stock' version...I guess they mean a non H/O regular '83 Cutlass.
Joe Handley Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I did a little reading on that car, for what is was capable of, it was stil frighteningly stock at the same time! Most of the suspension mods were big front bar, more than doubled up the front spring rate, bumped the rear rate by 30%, Camaro rear disks with some cooling ducts for the OEM brakes up front, big sticky Gatorbacks on 16×8 rims, then they bumped the power by around 25% and then the ground effects and spoiler package. I kinda wonder if the covers for the lights makes a difference in the handling, but .90g from a G-Body from tricks that would work on most, if not all G-Bodies, is pretty dang impressive!
sfhess Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 LHS sold 60 of these kits in two days.Another LHS owner said he didn't understand why Revell is producing this kit, doesn't think anyone will buy it........
ranma Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Not as well as I like it to be, My skills aren't that great when it comes to splice and cut/putty.
JJ Deuce Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 something tells me we will have a flat hood for this kit soon. A set of wire wheel hubcaps wouldn't be a bad idea either. I already have some ideas floating around in my head for multiple versions.exactly. Those items and a vinyl top and I can build a replica of my first car.
gasman Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) for those curious about how the lightning rod shifter works. click this link https://youtu.be/_nSGrfzJdd0so it works kinda like an modern auto/stick style transmission. but its no substitute for a third pedal. you could not get a manual transmission in any G-Body after 1981. gearhedjon Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Just got my order today from Model Roundup. My only "complaint" is no stock version yet. Also how come no oil fill tube on the manifold?
