stavanzer Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 I got Cataract Surgery on Wednesday. It has been postponed at least three times since Jan 2023. Between high A1C, needing to lose weight and troubles with paperwork and the VA, I though it would never get done. But, It has. I'm not seeing (ha) any real improvement in my vision yet, but I am assured that it will take time to stabilize. But, I am grateful to have gotten it done., as my eyesight was getting worse every day, even with glasses. Now to wait and see how it shapes up, in the next few days. 2
espo Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Had both eyes done a couple of years ago. Other than the sensitivity to light at first, I had no issues at all. There are a couple of types of lenses that they offer for distance or nearby. Do you recall which ones they used for your surgery?
Rob Hall Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 I went to a couple of great concerts Friday and Saturday nights...saw Robert Plant & Alison Krauss in Toledo and The Rolling Stones last night in Cleveland. Lots of fun...I had last seen the Stones in 2005, and this may be the last time I see them. Exhausted today, but a good day to rest. 3
webestang Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Under contract and close July 12th. The garage in back is 1-1/2 cars wide and 2 cars (Mustang's) deep! 8
89AKurt Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Got a "took you long enough" project done yesterday, pleased to take out the trash today and not have to hop skip and jump over sand and loose flagstone. Last year the first water filter system took a dump and that company was not in business, it was buried and in a plastic box that the sun had trashed. The steel cabinet came from mom's estate, cut the shelving so the new filter is hidden in that. Had to pull up flagstone to run new water pipes. Some of that flagstone is new, first time I infilled an area (always been new, working outward). Still have a hundred other projects to do on The Patina Palace. ? 4
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 (edited) Drove my new-to-me '96 Blazer up to Blue Ridge just because. Booming touristy town now, much more developed than 3 years ago (last time I was up there) and the traffic was like rush hour most of the way. It used to be quite a peaceful drive into the mountains, but the yups have found it and now it's a constant stream of idiots in jacked up trucks and Lexi and Mercs and Audis going nowhere very fast. Blazer ran great, gets almost twice the highway mileage of my '89 GMC pickup, but there are a few small things I need to address prior to driving across the country. All in all it was a good little shake-down trip, but it made me sad for a variety of reasons I won't go into any deeper. EDIT: That thing that looks like a train in the middle of the shot below is in fact a sightseeing train (pulled by classic EMD GP units) operated by the freight shortline that runs past my house. I did mine so that I have the distance vision and just need glasses for reading. My wife had hers done but opted to do one eye for distance and one for close reading. Don't understand what she was thinking, but it was her choice. Look into getting some prescription sunglasses. With the improved vision comes a greater sensitivity to bright lights like the sun. Glad your vision is improving. 2
A modeler named mike Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 I've never had any eye issues other than my site getting worse with age. When i bought my prescription glasses I opted to have two pairs, one for reading and the other for distance. I didn't want bifocals because of using a table saw and other finger chopping tools at work. The bifocals can distort what your seeing and cause poor judgment on the distance possibly causing a trip to the ER. Now that I'm retired I'll still keep the same 2 glasses routine, old habits are just to hard to kick.. On a different note I was finally able to get the large area in our backyard tilled, added new top soil, sow grass seed and cover it with straw where the 60 foot Silver Maple once stood. Technically, I paid to have it done so I cant take credit. About half of the backyard was torn up from the grinding of the stump and massive root system it had sprawling through the yard. Now to keep it watered in this weeks ungodly heat ? and to keep the neighborhood kids from cutting through the yard.. I've got to rope off the area today and they've been warned..☠️ 1
John M. Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 School is out for the summer as of yesterday so I have more than a week off to kickback before the summer day camp that I've been doing for years starts up. Meanwhile, my school bus will be in the shop for some well deserved maintenance work. 1

Roger U Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I usually don’t cheer for the Oilers (go Kings go) but I am cheering for them now. Come on guys just 2 more wins. 1
John M. Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I passed my DOT physical this morning with flying colors. 4
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 So I had to get a few things from Walmart today. With all of my recent health issues I had gotten a disabled parking placard. Unfortunately all of those spots were taken but I managed to get a spot close to the door. When I came out to leave a cop was writing a ticket for a truck that did not have a placard or disabled plate parked in one of the designated spots. Those tickets are a minimum of $250. It pleased me to see the person get a ticket for their selfish stupidity. 7
89AKurt Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Instead of building models, I've been building full scale things. I've been preparing my pickup for camping, such as mechanical stuff, it's running sweet now. This week I made the bed cover, painted today, this was a stop on the shake down run which showed I need a few more wing nuts. The 1/2" CCX plywood was $33.40 a sheet ? but almost everything else was scavenged or repurposed from something. Bed frame angle was used extensively. The NASTRUCK spoiler has a cool pin that I saved from a hospital bed that I took to the recycler, the plate came from on old vehicle, clear Redwood from a picnic table, steel plate adjuster pin from the rusty iron stash. The real reason I made that was for when I go camping, and it looks like rain, a tarp will be tied down, and that should keep water from running over the tailgate; the curve was to mimic the roof profile but it should also not tear up the tarp. I also hope the cover reduces the dust, but only going on a dirt road will tell. Tomorrow after attending a model swap meet in Prescott Valley, I will add a few things to stop the plywood from looking like a trampoline. So I'm very pleased. 4
espo Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Like the bed cover, and in theory it should reduce wind drag at hiway speeds. 1

I was hoping that would be a benefit. Today I drove some dirt roads, and have to admit that it must be like a vacuum, because lots of dirt and dust got inside. Driving kind of fast might have been a factor. ? So the main reason is a fail. Also lost one of the wing adjusters, so have to come up with a new design. 1
A modeler named mike Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Not only today but all this week I'm extremely pleased with the fact that my AC unit is working superbly in this obnoxious Heat! Another pleasing is appears that I'm having better luck fighting back my poison ivy with the second round of a Steroid shot and additional regiment of Prednisone. ?

I know you're pretty resourceful, maybe some peal and stick weather stripping would work as a seal around the edges of the bed and cover. Is it possible that there is air and wind entering through the bed floor? 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) Pretty good Sunday. Worked outside in the AM to get some natural vitamin D, then picked up some more model railroad HO scale "craftsman" kits from the '50s and '60s, went to Barnes & Noble for maps and a new SciFi book, and then drove up to Lake Allatoona just to see some water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Allatoona Sat under a tree in the shade and listened to little waves lapping on the shore for a while, tuned the noise of the jet-skis and power boats out. Came back, cleaned my windshield, topped up my fuel tank and fluids in the Blazer, then spent a couple hours packing for the move, made dinner, watched a couple of '50s b&w TV shows I wasn't allowed to as a kid. Time to go to bed. School day tomorrow. Edited June 24, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy TYPO 3

Is it possible that there is air and wind entering through the bed floor? I will splurge and get some thick foam gasket tape! I have a suspicion that the cab creates a low pressure zone over the plywood, that's why it was trampolining. Even before, when I had a load of sand, gravel, firewood or anything dirty, the open back window sucked debris into the cab. Going at speed exacerbates that pressure difference. The bottom of the tailgate is right where the worst dust is kicked up, acted like a vacuum. Guess I should go about 15 MPH on dirt roads. ? On Fakebook, saw a picture of someone who glued together white drain pipe together into a duct, with a 4" tube sticking out the window, to bring air into the cab. Making me think about doing that, a snorkel by the spare, to pressurize the cargo space, like a high altitude airplane. Got the tarp figured out (already want to modify something). The only thing I bought is the tarp, had just enough electrical conduit, another tube salvaged from something, and hardware to call it good enough. If I never solve the dust issue, this is the main reason I built this contraption, so I'm pleased like a happy camper. 1

John M. Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 My paycheck from the week before last never got direct deposited last Friday so I went in yesterday to see why. It turned out it was a clerical error on the part of the lady who does the payroll and she apologized for it. I'll get the paycheck and one for the personal days that I cashed this coming Friday.
