The Mustang is definitely awb, with enlarged wheel openings moved forward. Cure is to swap quarter panels with the coupe.

This may have escaped a few of you guys but the chassis and headers on the A/fx version is exactly what the Mustang A/fx fastbacks used. The weird spring setup on the front end is dead on. Take one of the AMT Mustang A/fx kits, which has a gasser chassis and plunk the Comet chassis, engine and headers into it and you have a pretty exact replica of the A/fx Mustang,

I find that extremely interesting as I have always liked the A/FX Mustangs but not AMT's gasser chassis.  I will definitely explore when the Comet A/FX is released.

Actually the Comets did not use the twisted leaf suspension. The 1965 AFX Mustangs, a few 1966 Longnose Mustangs, and Phil Bonner's 1965 Falcon were the only cars that used that suspension, all H&M built cars. The Comets were built by Stroppe. Dyno did put a straight axle in it early on.

It appears to be basically the stock suspension, although they did some major surgery - narrowing the shock towers and moving the lower arm mountings outward - to accommodate the big block cammer. The small block Ford is a tight enough fit in the engine bay to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some extensive re-fabrication of the individual components, as well. The spindles look to be taller than the stock items, for example.

If you are thinking of dropping a Mustang body on the Comet chassis keep in mind the Comet wheelbase is 114" and the Mustang's is 108". The A/FX Mustangs also had the rear wheels moved forward 3 inches.

And to think I was planning to drop a Mustang 2+2 body on that Comet chassis and call it accurate. They really made some major changes to both cars to get the SOHC in them and each took a different approach it would seem. I guess scratch building is the only way to get close on the Mustang, dang it!

I'm going to try the floorpan under my 62 AMT Comet, wheelbase is the same 1:1, we shall see. If it works I will have a fun time with this one.......

I wasn't in the store today, although I'm on my way down to get my pay, but three were ordered for today.

I'll be interested to see if there are any left.

I picked mine up yesterday, and in looking it over, so far, so good. I found some sink marks in the hood and in the roof, from the parts being so thin. However, this will not be a problem for me, as I will block the body, and add a primer coat before I paint it. So far, I blocked the hood. and the sink marks have disappeared. I'll get to the rest when I decide to build it. It looks to me like Mobieus has another winner.

Definitely want to get one of these if for no other reason that I really like this car! And it's a first for this one as it's not been kitted before. I see a few on the 'Bay for sale---------may get one from there, or just stop in to my LHS to see if they have one.

Ron or Rick, could you tell us the width and length of the chassis? I'd like to start planning some conversions (Falcon, Ranchero, '64 Comet, etc.).

Tom Carter of Spotlight Hobbies has posted on their message board that the '65 Comet Cyclone kits have reached the US West Coast--it won't be long now folks@

I guess this is how international commerce works - I'm assuming that the kits came over on a boat that docked about 30 miles from here, now my LHS tells me they'll be getting them from their east coast distributor in a few days. That Comet is going to have a lot of miles on it by the time it reaches me!
