Ah, but you're not as "special" as they are.

I now have a "nice" car. I hope that I never think I'm so special I take two spaces as close to the door as possible. Sorry to disappoint but the Corvette needs a ticket as much as the jeep. Of course, I'd prefer the jeep parking across the two spaces behind the Vette.

Good stuff. I remember wayyy back in the 80s going to a mall for Christmas shopping and trolling the lanes for a parking space. All filled up. I eventually passed a Camaro taking up two space. Someone had used pink nail polish to write them a message about their parking strategy. References were to small, backside body parts and parking skills.

In my opinion, You're really defeating the purpose when you park that way & opening yourself up to all kinds of bad circumstances. If I were the type of guy, (and I'm not) you'd be the first guy getting keyed!! :) Steve

Years ago when I had a Corvette I was always worried that some jerk would nail my car with a door so I parked way out in the lot and just walked. Taking 2 spaces is just inviting a scratch from someones keys.

When I drove a BMW M3 I would park way out and centered in a space. BMW drivers have a pretty negative image, so I worked hard to avoid living the stereotype.

Precisely. You park in the least noticeable way to avoid vandalism. It's surprising how many people that doesn't occur to.

About 12 years ago my wife had bought a new Hyundai when we still lived in New York on Long Island. She drove to work in it and thought she would take up 2 spots on an angle like that so no one would ding her new car with their doors. Well, someone in the office bldg. where she worked was so P.O.'d that she took up 2 spots in the limited space parking lot that they keyed the whole side of her new car...!!!

My friend Tom Valenta drives a beautiful Dodge Magnum with a Hemi. He is so "anal" about someone dinging his doors with theirs that, if he drives it to a mall or a shopping center, he parks it as far away from the stores as he can and walks the entire length or width of the parking lot to and from the stores. If you're a passenger along for the ride it's a real pain in the butt.

Door dings, scratches, and rock chips are part of life---can't avoid them. Don't drive your car in public if you don't want dings or scratches.

It's the 21st Century guys. This way of parking, taking up 2 spaces, parking a million miles away from your destination is unnecessary. We have mobile phones with cameras, dash cams etc.

When my car was brand new & I parked in a dodgey area/parking lot I'd simply take a picture of the car/s next to mine ( if any were parked next to mine ) of it's licence plates ( front & back ), go do whatever it was I intended to do. When I returned I'd check my car for scratches/dings etc & if none were present I'd delete the pics & leave. Simple. Everyone with a mobile phone can do this. It's pure evidence.... If your car is damaged ??

Parking like that just screams "key me". I've also heard of people using a ball peen hammer to chip the windshield, right in the driver's line of sight...

You're just begging for trouble when you park like that. Even tho I always try to park away from everyone else, no matter where or when, there is always a car or two that has to park next to me. Almost every time.

If you're driving a $50,000 or more Corvette, you should be able to afford to fix a few door dings after a few years. My wife & I own a 2005 Honda S2000 We don't drive it to the Walmart & the rest of the time, we park, as my wife would say, "strategically". & that does not include parking sideways in 2 spaces. What a douche!! Steve

I've got a friend that has a lovely blue 427 Cobra clone. He parks just about anywhere. I ask him once if he didn't worry about his gorgeous car? He said "No, I have insurance, and have never had a problem."

I wonder if that's the same car I've seen at Tempe Marketplace before...dark blue?
