niteowl7710 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 That shrink wrap is what makes the cost go from $28.68 to $71.99. Yeah THAT'S the ticket!

VRM Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 The things I have seen so far in the photos and instruction sheet that are bugging me are: 1. Speakers, but no radio. 2. No backs to the seat. 3. No tie down rail in the rear section of the interior. None of these will stop me from getting a few though. The Rudge wheels look like they will be easy to do, and Historic Racing Miniatures will likely do a set of inserts to use with the existing wheel.

Hopefully an easy fix with a bit of plasticard. Ben

250 Testa Rossa Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I think it would look even better with those Rudge wheels.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Y'know, it occurs to me - there might just be a future variation with Rudge wheels and some other odds and ends. Tamiya's done stuff like that before...
niteowl7710 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Did a rather tossed together in-box video review of the kit this afternoon. Watch me review it as I open it and see it for the first time. Just click the link down below in the signature line to head over to my YouTube page extravaganza.
sjordan2 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 That's the way I'd do mine, Jesse (with the traditional blue/plaid interior). Just looks even more serious without the bumpers and with the Rudge knockoffs.
mike 51 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) Got mine today! Looks great, and it's bigger than the AMT as Tim said, but looks so much better to my eyes. The Rudge knock-offs look a bit oversized on the AMT wheels but just fine on the Tamiya to me. The Amt wheels have five "lugs" (which appears to be "wrong" for Rudges) and the Tamiya's have none. My wheels will be gloss black so the detail that's "missing" shouldn't matter much (I hope). I'm really looking forward to building this kit....and seeing the ones the rest of you will be building. Just remember that real Rudge wheels have bolts that ring the interior of the wheel hub without a flange. On the factory wheel with Rudge center lock knockoffs, there is a very obvious flange at the hub.

I don't know, just asking.

Howard Cohen Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I picked this kit up today and it may be the best new kit I have seen this century The quality of the mold is excellent, right down to the window winders on the vent windows, perfectly molded tires with the correct tread, chrome that look period correctand not over-chromed, great wheels with finned brake drums, the belly pan is frosted clear, overall, 10/10! Greg Myers Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 You bringing the deep-fried sushi to the party? We'll have Bob-A- Que this Saturday.
pharoah Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 OK , show of hands. Who just drooled all over their keyboard? They just raised the bar again.

Only nit; not sure if it's camera angle but the nose looks a bit 'pancaked' to me. Skip?

Mods, if this is not allowed, please feel free to delete http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1141467 Spectacular-looking kit. That is so nicely done that any comments might seem ungracious, but there are things to be aware of. As mentioned in earlier posts, the speakers are there in the door jamb, but there's no radio (should be under the center of the dash). Needs carpeting on the floor of the rear luggage deck, and the kit seems to be missing the two luggage tie-down rails (one around the perimeter of the upper rear and a horizontal one just behind the seats -- these are on other kits). Not sure why the builder didn't finish the chrome door handles. And as I've noticed on other photos posted here, the door sill edges look way too sharp and could be sanded down a bit. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for my pre-ordered kit.
VRM Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Mine arrived today and I have been going over it slowly. Other than the bits I mentioned before the only new thing I have noticed is that the rear fender 'eyebrow' seems to be slightly sloped down at the back more than it should be. It could be a scale illusion and I have not measured anything yet, but it just looks a bit off. I will admit to a bit of irritation at the wheel covers. I will need to figure out a way to mask the chrome band and prime/paint just the top section either over the chrome plating or by stripping the plating just on the top. Grrr.... Tyres are no-name, but the tread pattern is really close to a Dunlop R5 (which was not available until '57 or '58 I think). Almost all Gullwings were originally equipped with Continentals, though some did have Dunlops. Dont let these nits stop you from getting this kit. The frame and suspension look fantastic. I picked up the Strawberry Red metallic and will hopefully do a test mix this weekend.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I've been trying to resolve that rear fender brow question myself since I got mine, and y'know something? It seems almost to vary from car to car... Is it a separate piece? Restoration variances? Maybe even variations along the assembly line? Whatcha say, Mr J? Turnin' out to be an interesting thing to pin down.
