This car is the 1969 Mercury Cyclone of the Hallman Moody team, which Bobby Allison drove to seven wins from the midway point of the 1971 NASCAR Winston Cup Series. For the previous two years, Bobby Allison had competed in a Dodge Charger Daytona in the four-car “Aero Warriors” competition between Ford, Mercury, Dodge, and Plymouth. However, for safety reasons, the engine displacement of the “Aero Warriors,” which competed in high-speed battles, was limited to 305 cu.in. in 1971, which was virtually a ban on the use of the "Aero Warriors. Bobby Allison switched to a Charger without the huge nose cone and high wing, but the aerodynamics were not as good as he had hoped, so he switched mid-season to the Hallman-Moody team's 1969 Mercury Cyclone. The base kit is the “Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II” from POLAR LIGHTS, which was re-released by ROUND 2 in 2018 with the addition of new Bobby Allison decals. However, the car Bobby Allison drove was not the “Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II” from “Aero Warriors,” but a 1969 Mercury Cyclone commonly known as the “W-Nose,” so the first half of the body had to be modified. At first, I was going to combine the resin W-Nose Cyclone body I had already purchased with the chassis of the kit, but the resin body was not in good shape from the A-pillar to the rear. So I decided to use the resin body from the front edge of the door to the front and the kit body to the rear. I cut each body at the front edge of the door and combined the two hoddies into one body. It took some careful crafting, but I think I was able to combine them fairly well. After the body was modified, the position and shape of the fueling port was changed, and the height of the rear spoiler was reduced. For the chassis, the front frame and hoop were shortened and modified to fit the body modified to W-Nose, and the front suspension tension rod mounting area was modified based on AMT's GEN4 Thunderbird chassis. The body was primed with Tamiya Super Surfacer (gray), Fine Surfacer (white), and TS-13 Clear, then sprayed with TS-49 Bright Red and TS-21 Gold, overcoated with TS-13 Clear, and then applied the kit decals. Near completion, I made a mistake and scratched the front edge of the roof, which I repaired and repainted, but unfortunately, I could not repair it beautifully.

Peugeot 205 WRC Crate Diorama
Technics replied to Technics's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I built the kit in 1.5 sittings minus the clear and interior parts for these photos. Ultra simple but almost 100% part fit. The kit is surprisingly sweet, no flash, pretty accurate, and no strange fitment. Rear wheels might need to be adjusted to be more inboard but that’s about all that I can see so far. 1,000 lakes gravel research on the table. -
A mental vacation from structure, plans and ultimately oneself I dove into a project that came to me by chance. I received this 1:43 as having placed second in a national competition here in Sweden for something I have never done before - weathering on my Land Rover. So I thought I’d continue in similar exciting manner and do something I’ve never done before with this one and do a diorama. I am thinking something ultra simple, a shipping crate / archival storage base which by chance I found Peugeot uses. Maybe place it on a patch of concrete / grass / gravel as it’s being logistically delt with. My plan is to completely cover the car in dirt, almost comically if one wants to call it that, everything but the clean wiper tracks. So as if it came off a SS stage and hasn’t been touched since. Not aiming to mimick an exact event, car, or be 100% accurate along the way. Overall impression is everything imo. My initial idea was to completely metal paint it in its entirety in one shot leaving only the wiper streaks to have it as a statue / trophy. Unsure on the kit quality led me down the thought path of covering the vehicle. The crate idea came to me while simply starting. That’s a reminder to myself is just build, think less, it comes in the moment.

So lets kick this build off too Got most of the engine painted: Still needs a lot of work. Thinking of trying to make it look a bit like a showcar so ill keep the chromed engine parts (i'm quite a huge fan of chromed engine parts - dont hate me ). Maybe ill strip the rims thou - will definitely use the OEM ones, not the tuned riced out wheels Spent some time to get the front bumper to line up - got it pretty good The back one went easier Really like the bodylines of the Firebirds

thank you

Day 9: Some random stuff Glued some stuff on. Mainly the grilles Stripped the rims. The white just wasn't it. Re-painted them in silver. Maybe i'll do white wheels on another build instead Also testfitted the interior Dark red looks pretty good with black

Sam I Am started following Revell 70 Pontiac Firebird , Any intrest in a large scale community build? , Big Scale Challenge and 4 others

Rich Chernosky's thread title got me to thinking. Would any of you be interested in a large scale community build? 1/16, 1/12, and 1/8. There are lots of kits out there, 1/16 in particular. We could even keep it to 1/16 if more people are interested.

I saw the title and got all excited because I would be all in on a group build. Do you have any close up pics? I have a number of 1/16, 1/12, and 1/8 in the stash right now.

I'd hate to see the cost of replacement headlights for my 2023 Outback. They move when you steer the car. It's interesting to see them move back and forth whenever I start the car. -
Well thanks! You must have been terribly bored to drag this one up but I do appreciate it!

Beautiful build. Love the fit and finish. I built one of these a couple years ago and really enjoyed the conversion using the Astro as a donor. Early this year I found a resin sleeper cab, so sometime in the future.... -
Super clean build.
