  1. Excellent work! One of my favorite Chevelle kits. I also convert them from flip nose back to stock. Most of the time I just fill in the hood with flat sheet to make it a Malibu standard hood. looks like you used a Revell 66 wagon for the donor and the Monogram 70 Chevelle for the wheels/ tires. Last one I built, I used the engine bay from a monogram 64 GTO and the front frame/suspension clip from the Lindberg 66 Chevelle to convert the front back to stock.
  2. I've done that. I would buy the 70 coronet bodies people would sell from the pro street issue and use the interior and chassis from the old "general lee" 69 charger kit. Fits pretty good. Kinda' like restoring it back to MPC specs. As it is in its current AMT "stock" issue, It takes some work to get the late 80's 68/69 roadrunner chassis parts to fit. Trimming the glass is a must for sure. I call it the "kitbash in a box" kit.
  3. Excellent trading with Larry Ray and Partsmarty. Thank you guys!
  4. Very nice..inspiring . I have a 70 roadrunner build that I started into a backyard project like that..need to work on it some more..Very well done.
  5. Yep. Walmart colorplace/ homeshades primer. Thanks, I had to make those myself. No kit made today comes with these rims. luckily, I had a couple old ones in my mismatched rim parts box that I used for masters when making the mold. One of the rims I modified to make it the deep rim for the rear and the spare tires inside. But you can find these on ebay in resin as well . Thanks, Yeah, it would be nice to see a kit of it..would save a ton of work on the AMT 55 stock kit..Would make an excellent basis to build as various 55 flip nose gassers commonly seen in the 60s. It could just be a generic kit with all these same mods and features but not actually advertised or marketed as the "two lane blacktop" car itself to avoid the hassle of licencing and trademark fees and royalties to whoever owns the film or actual cars. But allow the builder to leave the body in primer without gasser decals to build it as this car..Just a plain 55 chevy sedan flip nose gasser kit. Doubt it will ever happen though. too simple of an idea..
  6. Thanks. I did it using evergreen .030" rod. Glued to the outside edge of the wheel opening. Glue and primer just blended it in..back in the day, they used conduit tubing to flare the cut out openings on real cars..so I just sorta duplicated that in scale..
  7. As far as I know, that bumper is from the kit. No mods to it. Straight off the parts tree I had.. Yeah, I considered it..lol.. good luck to me on that..hard to find kit. Thank you guys for the interest and comments..
  8. This is my most recent build. The 55 Chevy from "Two Lane Blacktop". I've been wanting to build this one for years. Finally got around to it..It was built for my model club build off "contest". This was built from a very cut up gluebomb body that someone started to turn into a custom. I had to restore it back to stock before I could do the modifications to build it as the movie car. Took me 4 months of work to salvage what was literally junk into this. The basis was the AMT 55 Bel Air 2 dr post sedan kit. I used a lot of the optional drag parts from the AMT 55 nomad kit and the big block Chevy engine from the AMT 67 chevelle pro street kit with headers from the AMT 37 Chevy kit. I resin cast the American 200S "daisy mags" myself. As simple as it looks, it takes a lot of modifications to build this car. Enjoy.
  9. Sometimes you got to work with what you have. Looks good so far..I just finished up a two lane black top 55 build. Made it from a very cut up gluebomb parts junk kit that I had to restore first before I could do the modifications to build it as the movie car..Took me 4 months to build. Some would call me crazy to do it that way, but it was all I had as far as a 55 chevy goes in my stash..Whenever the weather gets nice here, I'll get some pics of it to share with you guys.. Keep at it man.
  10. Interesting read..its hard to believe they invested all that time and money to R&D / tool up those kits only to discontinue them cause of one damaged tooling..I guess thats what they get for doing business in communist nations putting all their eggs in one basket. How much did they stand to lose by giving up now? What I don't understand is why a new tool isn't cut? What makes the process soo difficult that they can't or won't do that? They did it once, why not do it again? If those kits were indeed good sellers and popular, then what would stop them from cutting another tool here in the states and start production back up here in the states starting with these two kits? Bring jobs back to the U.S. in the process..I admit, I don't know a whole lot about the manufacturing side of this industry. For some reason it always seems a big secret. Would be great if we had a real informative article in any of the model magazine publications that would shed some much needed light on this kind of stuff so we the customers/ builders can better understand what goes on and why things are done and not done such as in this situation over damaged tooling of a new kit that was apparently a good seller..
  11. From the factory the bottoms were red oxied primer with body color overspray on them. Frames were black separate from the body. Some of the suspension/ steering components were bare metal with a "protective" coat of oil on them. Black undercoat was applied at the dealer as an extra cost "option".
  12. Very nice. I've got a 70 Plymouth I used as a parts donor and I'm planning to do this with whats left of it... Thinking about trying the salt method on it. never done it before..Still confused a little about it..I also want to do the weathered vinyl top too..Still trying to figure that out too...
  13. That looks like it stung a little David. I didn't know you was in such a condition that required that..Glad to see you're building again and doing better..
  14. Nice. I remember episodes with him driving that chevy convertible. Although it was a 53 like mike said.... Actually his first car was a 36 Ford coupe..Non running I think..
  15. I agree with Ace here..I'd build the AMT kit for all the reasons he stated..The Revell kit is nicer detailed but does not have all those cool options most AMT kits have.
  16. Man, I've been wanting one of those 50 F1 truck bodies like that..don't need the engine or wheels...Do you have any listed now?
  17. The trend in selling kit parts and the market it has spawned is a reaction to the high prices these kits are priced at now. Back in the day when kits were affordable, you just bought a whole kit just for the parts. I remember buying kits just for the wheels or engines and disreguarding or even sometimes throwing away the rest. Now they are soo expensive, that I couldn't do that anymore. its usually more cost effective for me to buy just the parts I want than having to shell out for a whole kit. This was usually from sellers who were selling off what they were not using and not being greedy about it.. But lately, I've noticed prices for parts have increased dramatically. Just about to the point where it almost makes more sense to buy the whole kit now. I suspect this is from more people jumping in on the parts selling band wagon trying to make a living selling stuff on ebay.
  18. You guys are sooooooo LUCKY!!!!!. $7.99!!!! i haven't seen prices like that on such a wide variety of kits in 20 years since K-mart sold kits....I don't have one of these stores nearby. They seem to be selling FAST from what i have heard and seen on other sites / forums. Definately says there is a market for this stuff..I bet hobby shops and other stores like hobby lobby and hobby town are hating this..I'm wondering HOW Ollie's can sell these kits for $7.99 when everyone else is selling those same kits for 20-30 bucks..You know they are still turning a profit on each kit at that amazing price... Wonder what they paid for them and where they got them?
  19. Man, thats pretty cool. You did a great job on it....Tempted to build one myself, but just can't get past that 70s shag interior though...I would have to change that..Maybe build one with the window glass clouded up from the inside with dull coat..
  20. I built this rat rod for a theme build off in my model club....Built from the parts box.
  21. Shadow makes it look like that..I narrowed the top about the width of two hacksaw blades. one cut down each top seam... I should trimmed a hair more off before I glued it together..Its built from the parts box.. The windshield frame is actually from a 51 chevy HT..
  22. Here it is. This is a custom I'm piecing together from left over parts.
  23. The 64 Nova in my Avitar picture IS my daily driver. Built it myself from a wreck I traded for.. Has updates done to it. Runs a street rod Mustang II suspension, rack N pinion steering, disk brakes and tilt wheel. Just those upgrades by themselves made a BIG difference in how the car stops and steers now. EFI conversions still costs a ton of $$$$. so i'll stick to the dual carbs on the inline six banger that I built myself using parts from several engines. Interior is from a 00 Concorde / Intrepid. with shoulder belts front and rear too. even a CD player from a 99 Saturn. So its comfy inside like a new car..Manual everything. no electronic gizmos to quit working..I can work and repair parctically anything on this car in my driveway without having to having to take it to a shop or have a million dollars worth of specialized tools or be an IT tech just to do basic maintiance on it...Drive it all the time in all kinds of weather. Gets lots of looks and conversations going with people you'd otherwise never talk to..Always have folks wanting to buy it. I will NEVER drive another overpriced/ getting into perpetual debt plastic throw away computerized electronic problems plauged over complicated boring souless late model again..
  24. I used the one from the Revell 48 Ford kit.Custom version I believe. Fits pretty good. Narrowed it slightly to fit. I put it on a 50 olds body. Same basic shell as a chevy..I can post a pic of it to give you an Idea, if thats alright.
  25. Just did a great trade with Againmikewins.
