AMT '40 Ford Sedan Box Art Built

Box_Art_Montage_2.jpg

I'm surprised at much I like box art builds that have shown here. The designers at the time seemed to know what they were doing.

Just happens that my two most recent builds are AMT '40 Fords. Very impressive kits despite the age of the tooling. They're a totally different kind of kit from modern ones but they build easily and the end result just has the "look".

Kitbash of Revell's 1940 Standard Five Window Coupe and Deluxe Convertible kits, along with Norm's tuck'n'roll interior, painted real 1954 Buick Titian Red Metallic from MCW Automotive Finishes.  How-to steps covered in the October 2017 issue of the other model car magazine....more images here....      TIM

I built this one from the AMT Diamond in the Rough kit when it was released in the middle 1980's . It was going to have been a part of a Service station diorama that I never completed . Because of it's "Period " custom parts , I chose to do it as a mild custom about 1963 . That should explain the striped "Rolled and Pleated " interior . Readers who are Henry Gregor Felson's automotive books will recall the 1940 Ford in a couple of his books

Crash Club comes to mind. I'm good friends with his daughter Holly Felsen Welch. I've read almost all of his books.

Now someone's got to build the pink '39 coupe from 'street rod' ...

I managed to finish the one I had started back on page 1 back in Jan 2019. Don't remember if I ever put the photos up on this site. Love many of these displayed here.

Some great builds here! :D This is the only one I currently have finished (I had a few built before a house fire in 2011, but haven't built but the one since), Lindberg's kit, I did this as a buddy build with my Dad (he built his as a street rod), this was based on a drawing/painting I found online.

Here's the only '40 Ford I've ever built, a primered street cruiser. The idea was to build a model that looked like a B&W photo, and as you can see, the only color on the thing is the taillight lenses.

In the late '80s or early '90s I used the AMT '40 Tudor roof to attempt to convert the IMC/Testors postwar Ford into a sedan.  Project was never completed.  It's very rough.  The AMT kits are great for kitbashing.

Yep. I added a lip to the rears to make them a touch deeper.
