Another addition to my Mustang/Shelby batch builds. This one is a 1969 Mach 1 to be converted to a Boss 429. Painted the chassis bits and interior last week. Painted the body today. The parts box Boss 429(s) are in the purple lake. I need to modify the hood for 2 4bbls.

About 15 years ago I made a 69 Boss 429 using the MPC kit with is a little undersized scale wise.  I used a 1/25 MPC Boss 429 engine (from the 71-73 MPC Mustang) and of course had to scratch build a smaller hood scoop so it would not look oversized..  The Revell kit makes more sense of course given it has a far more realistic engine bay and chassis.  Out of curiosity are you using the kit grill or the one from the Boss 302?

It's the Boss 302 that doesn't have the scoops.

Yep,

My bad, the 302 didn't, the 429 did. And I should know as I was a Ford dealer back then......

Wow, I didn't even know they did that. Now I will need to get a Boss 302 kit Just because it is different.

I am using the kit grille. Is it incorrect?

I have plans to do the same as you.  Convert the '69 Mustang Mach I into a Boss 429 using some parts from the '70 Boss 429.  Scale might be an issue, but we shall see when I start my WIP.

I am trying to avoid robbing parts from my 70 kit rendering it incomplete. I did hijack a pair of side decals from it though.

I have the '70 Boss 429, but it has been falling apart sitting on the shelf and I do prefer the '69 over the '70.  Time to move on to the '69 and if the '70 gives up a few parts for the '69, I'm ok with that.

I saw a brand new 69 Boss 429 at Mall display. Have always wanted to build a model of one. By the way the 70 Boss 429 did not have the side scoops. It has always been my plan to use the Revell 70 429 to which I would add side scoops and front and rear ends from a 69.

It’s okay but due to many complaints Revell changed the part so it has more slant than the original kit part.

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I have the updated part or not. (Not that I have an option). I did finish some touch up work on it after masking and painting it.

Here are some older builds of mind showing the extreme difference in size from the MPC 69 GT kit and the original issue Monogram 70 BOss 429.  I made a Mach1 and a Boss 429 from the MPC kit and the Monogram Boss 429 I straight out of the box.  Making a Boss 429 out of the Revell Mach1 kit should be fairly easy.
