Looks good Dennis. I don't think I could have done any better and I've been doing foil for almost 4 decades now. ?

Foiling sucks - but you nailed it!  Looks great dude!

Thanks! It wasn’t as bad as I was anticipating and I did it all on the first try. About halfway through I got into a good groove and cruised through.

You passed the BMF test - that is a very nice quarter vent, in my opinion, the hardest part to do without wrinkles.  This will really add to the realism of the finished model.

Cheers

UPDATE!

I successfully clear coated the body, hood, dash and some other small parts on my lunch hour at work today.

That looks GREAT!  Tamiya clear?

And, more importantly…did you still get to eat lunch?

Yes, Tamiya clear right out of the rattle can!

And, yes, got to eat while the can sun bathed. ?

Klearly one over-the-top kustom hardtop '57 Chevy!

Sleek silver is a kool kolor and the red-hot & black interior will truly pop!  The body mods are way kool and quite kontemporary for a kar that has seen even the "best" names try to kustomize, like Boyd's CheZoom!

Hi Dennis, crisp job on the foil, looks fantastic. Must have been a great podcast, and a really good drink to pull that off in one go. You’ve been kind enough to share your paint “recipes” with me, how bout the drink recipe?! Seriously though, that paint job really comes to life in the sun. Great looking build all round.

Cheers, Steve

Thanks a bunch, Steve! I really surprised the hell out of myself with the foil job. But, I sat down at the bench with the only goal for the afternoon being to foil the trim and I took my time. I used a brand new #11 blade and found it easier to control the trimming by holding the blade with my fingers rather than in a handle.

I went non-alcoholic on the ice cold drink this time as my nerves felt relaxed enough. When I do want spiked punch the recipe is very simple, though: Glass, Ice, Jack Daniels #7 and Diet Coke. ?

One of my favorite "chill" drinks. Almost a must when foiling a late 50's subject. ?

UPDATE!

Finally I got around to masking off the body so that I could spray the radiator and the big cavity in front of the core support matt black. I also painted the flat areas at the outer ends of the bumper opening matt black as well. This way there won’t be any bright painted areas to detract from the custom floating grill bar that I made.

Next steps will be to brush paint the underside of the body flat black followed by polishing and waxing.
