TransAmMike Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Late last year I completed and posted pictures of my replica of very own (but long gone) 1:1 SS I bought new by me as a mere 20 year old. The pictures as seen in the first picture shows it as it looked when I picked it up at the dealership in New Orleans in September 1966. Over the course of the 5 years I owned it I made several modifications as I have tried to replicate in build #2. First I removed the steel wheels and poverty caps and put chrome reverse wheels on the Tiger Paw red-lines (I think during the first week I had it). At some point later on I removed the front chrome wheels and put on the Torque Thrust wheels. On the rear I installed Mickey Thompson L or N60 tires on the chrome reverse wheels. I also installed air shocks on the rear and 90/20 lift shocks on the front. Engine mods were a larger Holly Carb, I think a 750cfm on top the 325hp 396 and a set of headers. Over the carb was a Motion air filter. One other mod was the Hurst Comp Shifter. So here she is after the mods: As always, thanks for looking and I welcome your comments. 2
Calb56 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Very cool, you must've been really happy in your 20s with that... Nice build too.
Zippi Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 That's a Looker Buddy. Great job on creating a replica of what you bought new back in the day at 20 years old. Nicely done.
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Looks great. I wouldn't mind another 66 kit.
XYHARRY Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Wow, your emotions must have been flowing during this build. Looks great Mike. Cheers, David. ??
NOBLNG Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Nice looking Chevelle! It is a rewarding feeling when working on and completing a replica of a special vehicle that we have owned. Well done?

It is rewarding and I have done a few other replicas of former cars. 11 hours ago, Mopar2 said: Very nice build...What a really cool car to have as a 20 yr old... Yep, kept it for about 6 years. Was a bear to drive without power steering and no air conditioning in the hot and humid New Orleans area. Thanks Anthony 5 hours ago, atomicholiday said: Those both look great! kenlwest Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 I remember back in high school, early 70's, when it was popular to have 50's or 60's in the rear, and 70's in the front. And the wheels were different styles front to rear. Your car has the typical rake that was common back then. This car brings back good memories from those days... @ .60 per gallon as well!

Had the from the factory Uniroyal 7:75x15 red line on the front. I actually wanted the rear even higher to depict the rake when I had the airshocks pumped up. Oh, and in '66 when I bought it I remember paying 34 cents a gallon for Amoco Super Premium white gas.
Scott8950 Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 The 66 Chevelle is the best looking car ever made! Very nice job.
