realgone58 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Took a break from all the BMF and stock stuff and did this Revell '51 Ford Thames with injected Olds engine. All out of the box except the front rims are parts box and the engine has a Fatkidd dist/wires, and a fuel line. Paint is Colors by Boyd Bright Green Pearl. No decals for the sides yet, because they will be my custom made "garage" name decals.
Porscheman Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Beautiful build Alan. This was one of my 1st and favorite drag kits I bought back in the 60's
slusher Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Real sharp build Alan, Awsume looking engine and color. l always liked the boyd colors, sad there not being made anymore..
Gluhead Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Fine lookin' Thames! Finicky kit...you did it justice.
High octane Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 That panel is lookin' good as I just saw a bunch of "gassers" at the strip this past Sunday. I know I have one of those kits in my "stash" somewhere, but who knows when I'll get to it?
TooOld Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Nice one ! I haven't seen a Thames panel in a looooooong time , I like it !
crazyjim Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Clean and SHINY :) , Al. Very nice. Looks like someone is getting ready for the MAGS show in October (gasser theme) in Tampa.
outlaw035 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 grt8 job al...really like the engine and the paint...
realgone58 Posted July 27, 2013 Author Posted July 27, 2013 Thanks guys! Yes it is a finicky kit. @Jim, Possibly for the Mags show in Tampa. I still have to start building the '50 Olds for our club build. Waiting on my resin to come in.
PappyD340 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 SWEET, I built one of those years ago, guess it must have made its way to the styrene graveyard, but yours is very NICE!!
geetee66 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Nice choice of colour, too. Was yours molded in metallic bottle-green? Mine is. I was wondering how many colours they produced, or was it just green? I've built the coupe version and I've got the MCG detail set for when I build the van. They are tricky kits, but they look great.
Skip Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Cool, way finicky kit that's part of its charm though. Built both the Thames and Anglia once or twice, I'm amazed how well the tooling has held up on both kits. They got a whole generation of young builders interested in gassers in their true form. (Not like the faux gassers people are trying to pass off lately. A lot of the cars being passed off as a gasser would have been passed right over back in the day.)

Yes, bottle green '95 issue. It had lots of flash from being re-issued so many times over the years. I remember the original version was more of a yellow-green metallic (close match to One Coat laquer Lime Ice), and the Skipper's Critter version was metallic ruby red. There may have been more. Can't remember off hand. I didn't even know they made a detail set for these. Wish I knew that before I finished. I better go look at MCG.
Maindrian Pace Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 That Thames was my first Revell kit build from the late '70s. Yours came out a bit better! -MJS
Southern Fried Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Great job! I think I "murdered" about 4 or 5 of these kits as a child...(early 70's) Tough nuts to crack. Picked up a few more in the 90's... Finally said "Screw it" and did a curbside"...
spotarama Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 nice lookin' build, i've got one on the go with a jag engine and rear end out of an E type kit , very english 70s stylei'll have to put some pix on the workbench thread
