What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
Jim N replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
We take our cars to an independent repair shop who also has the contract for the Fed-Ex trucks. He says the things some of these drivers do to the trucks defies logic. I believe you are correct that there is some gross incompetence, but there seems to be destructive intent as well. -
Great work. That is a truly gorgeous model. Display it proudly!

Thank you, Donato, Bill, Keith, Bob and Larry. I appreciate the kind words.

Back in the day we came up with all sorts of ways to use the 35mm film canisters. Now we are doing the same with pill bottles. Not a criticism of anybody. Just an observation.

Here is my 2016 championship winning car driven by Jimmie Johnson. Johnson has been my favorite driver since entering the Cup Series. So, this one is long overdue. It is incredible how quickly Father Time caught up with him as he won only 2 more races after securing the seventh title. Now he just turns laps, but for 10 years, the 48 team was on top of it. The model is a Revell Quick Snap. I have accumulated a number of these, and they are fun little kits to build. The decals are Powerslide. An annoyance was there were not hood pin decals with this sheet. The paint is Rustoleum Cobalt Metallic Blue. The spoiler is Krylon Yellow over a gray primer. The side panels are applied using Mark J's method and the gloss is Quick Shine applied with a brush as recommended by Pierre Rivard. The downside of the build are the exhaust pipes. With the modification, there was not a lot of plastic to work with, and it brings down the overall quality of the build. Thank you for looking.

Great looking model. The paint is outstanding and goes really well with the interior. In real life, the white interior would have been a real pain. My dad had a car with a white interior. He tried keeping it clean when the car was new but gave up after a few years.

This is really cool! I love everything about it. Spectacular work!

I have to get a few older projects off of the model table and then I want to try one of the Salvino kits. I have some waiting in the wings, and it will be time to try one out and see what kind of damage I can do.

want a drag strip?
Jim N replied to rattle can man's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The property was pulled and is no longer up for sale. The back taxes would have been paid for by the current owner. The biggest problem with the track is that the owner got into a fight with the county from the start over the property tax valuation and the taxes. He never paid the property taxes on the property from when he took control in 2016 (I believe). He then got into a fight with NHRA, and the contract was not renewed. That was the death knell for the facility. It's sad because that is one of the premier drag strips NHRA ran on. Some people are builders and others are destroyers. The owner of this facility falls into the latter category. -
Good for you. Some of their kits are going on sale at different places. Which ones did your order?

Looks great! You did a fantastic job with the paint.

Looks real good. You should be proud of this one.

I will be working on a race car that has a flat finish. It is white, which is why the yellowing is significant. I will have to paint is a gloss white and then apply the decals. After this process, I will have to apply a flat. Am looking for options for the flat finish before I begin. I did a search on this and did not find what I was looking for. Given the size of this sight, I likely did not do the search properly. I appreciate any assistance offered.
