F-4B and F-4J - Jolly Rogers
Jim N replied to Jim N's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Thank you Bill. I loved the Phantoms too. When the military made the missiles more reliable, put a gun on the plane and taught the the pilots / aviators dogfighting skills, everybody got to see what an absolute beast that plane was. -

Thank you Joe. I appreciate it. Back in the day when I built aircraft regularly, I preferred 1/48 scale. But, I don't really have the space for the larger models. Working in 1/72 really wasn't that bad. The decal work was exceptionally tedious, and this is where the smaller scale came into play. A number of the decals cannot be read, so it's like why bother, but I trudged on. -

Thank you Matt. The tires tucked into the wheel wells nicely. I was a bit surprised. -

Alan, I might have an explanation for the gap between the cars. People are being advised to leave more of a gap between their car and the car in front. The reason for this is that if there is an attempted carjacking, the person has room to escape. You are correct that this does not help when the light is not calibrated for this kind of a gap, but people have to protect themselves as best they can.

Thank you Bruce. I appreciate the kind words. These have been done for several months. I just finally got around to taking pictures of them when I photographed the Byron Camaro. -

The marking on this squadron's planes has always captivated my imagination. The F-4B is an Italeri with Vagabond decals, and the F-4J is from Academy with decals from the kit. Both are 1/72 scale. These are my first aircraft model builds in over 25 years. The outlines on the canopies and the striping on the tail hooks were my Achilles heel back then and things have not changed. Thank you for looking.

Revell F4U Corsair

Looks real good! -
This is my first Salvino’s kit and the learning curve was steep. The model is a Chase Elliott NAPA Camaro with Mike’s decals to do the Raptor scheme. I built this box stock and did very little detailing. I saw the builds of other guys and noticed their comments that very little of the engine bay and trunk compartment are visible when the model is completed. I build these to display on a shelf, so doing a display with the body off and the internal components visible is not really an option. The cons to this kit were that the chassis pan was warped and there was A LOT of flash. I tried getting the chassis pan as flat as I could, but it still had some bend in it. Final assembly required a lot of super glue to get the body to fit properly to the chassis pan. It also didn’t help until it was too late into the build that the fire wall and the side roll cage assemblies had to be trimmed a bit for better fit. This made a big difference as the tolerances are so tight. I also bought their jig for the suspension construction too late, and the four tires fit wonky in the fender wells, but surprisingly, they all fit flat in the table. The pros are that this is a well-engineered kit. I was surprised at how well the parts did fit, particularly the roll cage. This is a small observation, but I still marvel at how the rear spoiler snapped into the fitting and largely stayed there. A tiny drip of super glue and the spoiler did not move. Enough of the words. Below are the pictures. Thank you for looking.

Have You Ever Needlessly Ordered Anything?
Jim N replied to Bill Anderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I build primarily race cars, and if I found a paint scheme I liked, I bought the decals and the car. I have too many decals and kits. More than I can probably build in my lifetime. Recently, I made a solemn promise to myself to break this habit. When I leave this world, I really don't want to leave too much of a mess for my wife and kids to sort through. -
Very nice Bruce. I remember this car back in the day. Very striking livery.

Great work. The Tide cars sure do bring back memories. -
That is a beautiful group of Impalas. I had thought about doing something like this, but I lack the time and the patience to see the project through to the end.
