Gorgeous build! But I must ask, is the valve cover on upside down? -

At Walmart (at least one store)
Daddyfink replied to Classicgas's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool, hate Walmart, hate away. And yes, some of us don't have to buy another model ever again, but we can when we want to, but don't BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH on those that can't do it as easily. Simple as that. -

Easy there, we don't get that APROPLECTIC about prices. It is just very disappointing when a kit maker, R2, re boxes and old tool, say the ECTO 1, with a super low parts count and some hokey decals and charges as much as a Tamiya kit. Is this the CHEAPSKATE part you are implying? Most of the tooling being used by R2 has been paid for a few times over, and now it is mostly repair cost they have to recoup. Molding a few new parts, and deleting a bunch of other ones, is not a reason to really mark something up. I don't blame the LHS, I blame R2 for trying pass it off as business as usual. And now, I am not blind, I know the cost of things is going up in our hobby, but this was before the mess really kicked in. As for prices at WM, they call the shots, and in this case, we are fine with their pricing. You want to pay full boat, go for it! No one is telling you not to, but don't dump on others for finding a deal. -

Cheapskates? What is wrong with getting a deal? Really? Finding models at Walmart is a rare thing these days, as opposed to a LHS that is there, hopefully, year round. So this is not a year long deal for model buyers. I am sure Round 2 made their money, and Walmart probably did as well. Most clearance leftovers are mostly kits that we don't want. Snap kits, cartoon kits or something you already have bunch of in the stash. I bought some extra Vega kits there after I had already bought some from my LHS, and now I picked up some discounted ones for the upcoming Model Expos Raffle Trust me, I pay full boat for a kit I want, but I am not walking away from a deal. If that makes me a cheapskate, then so be it! CHEAPSKATES OF THE WORLD UNITE!! -

All the Wal Marts around here have clearance out all their kits. I just picked up a Ford LNT Snow Plow for $15, and it was the last one on the shelf, just some monopoly willys panels left. I just saw the Wal Mart kits as an opportunity to pick up some cheap kits, while still paying full boat at my LHS for kits that are not WM bound, like the Nova kits and other R2 kits, and not getting dinged to hard. It is nice to get a deal once in a while, but I know it is not going to be the norm. So no complaints here! -
Well, it is a movie car......

Hey! Look! A HEMI! https://www.facebook.com/AtlantisToyAndHobby/?hc_ref=ARSVxzWkkvWEw79h8E7UIfXDXVT3ovW6MMpVcreP-ipZn-Fb9Xr7czLw-4N15RqMP6A&fref=nf -
I found the clearance models at the local Walmart. They had this, the plow, the Switchers 32 Coke panel, the Monopoly Willys and some Star Trek stuff. And for only $15 I picked this one up

I need to get another display cabinet
Daddyfink replied to chris chabre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Check for closing or closed businesses that are clearing out displays. Lots of display store stuff out there can be picked up for cheap a the moment. I know it is a sad situation for them, but why let that stuff end up in a landfill. Also, check local auction houses that do business or school equipment auctions. A few years back we cleared out some museum quality display cases from a science class, those where some really nice tall glass and wood display cases. -
Are these the best-ever, yet most unsung funny car kits of all time?
Daddyfink replied to tim boyd's topic in Drag Racing
Why Revell never made different bodies for this chassis is beyond me. A new Camaro or Cuda would have made way more building options that what we got. -

The engine in the Miss Deal is the parts pack HEMI, so hopefully that is what is being slipped in. Nice vintage sponsor decals, btw -
From the Atlantis site re: Aurora molds
Daddyfink replied to Reegs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Other than was is the "latest" info, most of this has already been learned. We know about the wreck, the damaged molds, Monogram getting rid of things and molds just disappearing into some cave. And in the end the message is basically, don't ask about what we have. Thanks to Ed Sexton for saving what he could. -

The Ford engine, parts pack 427, is miles ahead of the Hemi that comes in the JJ Camaro. The Hemi in the Camaro was also used as a Ford Cammer in Mustang and Maverick funnie, and the Willys and Henry J kits. It is pretty bad. Unless they totally tooled up something new, which I highly doubt. -
AMT 1974 RR/Satellite Funny Car Buildup with minor mods...
Daddyfink replied to tim boyd's topic in Drag Racing
I was always baffled as to why the put center caps on the rear rims. Very odd. You did a very nice job from a very weird kit. -
I would say it is, and only because the only other Stude Funny was the AMT kit. The Miss Deal kit is a great source of early drag parts!

You just gave me an idea.... Mongoose Body with a Troublemaker Chassis
-
Oh, not at all, but they where not that huge as on the kit. and pairing it with low profile threaded tires makes it even more odd to me.
