1948 Chrysler Town & Country by Danbury Mint. Not to long ago, I believe Randy commented everyone should have one of these. Well, now I have three. Two from Franklin and this one from Danbury. Ever since Randy made the comment I have been looking and he's correct about the rash on these. I've noticed a lot of sellers seem to take awful pictures of the cars and when they do take good pictures, rarely do they mention the rash. When I saw this one, the paint looked dull, but I couldn't see any visible bad rash. Nothing was broken and he had a buy it now or make an offer. I made a low ball offer which was kicked by eBay and made a slightly higher low ball offer which was also kicked by eBay and so I thought oh forget it. Next thing I knew I had the sellers purchase now in my email. So here it is before and the last shot is after polishing. The doors don't have doglegs like Franklin Mint's do, but they're still not prototypically correct. There is no way you could slide your legs between the seat and door. It doesn't really show well with my cell phone, but after I polished this with wax, it really pops! There is just the tiniest hint of rash on the cowl and that's about it. Tomorrow I'm off to the great white north for cold weather testing. Depending how late it is when I get to Winnipeg, I'll post the LE Franklin Mint for a comparison. We're supposed to be in Yellowknife on Sunday. We'll do a cold soak and start testing on Monday. The over night low is predicted -42. I think that's pretty close to same in Celsius and Fahrenheit. The high is like -35F, BRRR.

This is a slightly damaged Danbury Mint 1956 Chrysler 300B I recently acquired from eBay. The seller listed it as having a broken rear bumper and antenna. I could see the mirror was damaged too. They were, but the left grill and left rear wheel spinner and center hub came off in shipping. Also, helpful hint to those that ship diecast with loose parts, don't throw them in the trunk or interior. Put them in a plastic bag. I didn't think I would ever get the antenna out from under the trunk liner. All the loose parts were easy fixes and this one is a detailed beauty! These suckers usually go for well over $100. I've never even seen one of these come in my price range of less than $50, but I threw a low ball number at the last second and reached beyond my limit to $57.56 and won by .56. I'm pretty happy with it . The rear bumper's not perfect, but you can hardly see it. I've got about 14 more new to me mint diecast that I'll be cleaning and repairing soon. I'm off to the Great White North (Yellowknife) this weekend for some cold weather testing. So they'll have to wait for a couple of weeks. I did get a 40 Ford Hot Rod, and two 48 Chrysler Town and Country's, one from each Mint cleaned and polished. I'll be posting them next.

Yes, the Porsche is a Franklin Mint. I already have one, but it was missing the boot. So ever since I've been scouting for another boot, parts car, or if the price was right a complete car. Now I have a complete car. One will go back to eBay. Whichever one is rougher. I plan to document cleaning and repair of all my recent acquisitions. I was working on the Chrysler 300 tonight.

So, while I've been in Canada this year, I've been busy making purchases on eBay. I've seen a few of them and cleaned and made repairs on the ones I had purchased though October. I didn't take time to get a picture of my repairs and cleaning. The rest are from November until now. The NASCAR racecars were new, so no cleaning or repairs necessary. These are my latest purchases. I will see them in a couple of weeks. These are pictures from eBay. When I get back, I'll post updates with pictures of cleaning and repairs.

That looks really good. I built one of these about twenty some odd years ago. Used some aftermarket decals for a Bud Moore car too. This is the only picture I have. It's packed away.

I have the Danbury Mint version of the '48 Chrysler Town & Country convertible and mine looks good for now. I just checked! It's a wonderful car, and probably at scale weight too. It's one heavy model! I understand the problem with the "rash" is in the metal, a zymac(?) composition that is deteriorating under the paint. I've had the green 1948 Town and Country Franklin Mint version for a number of years. Bought on eBay for cheap years ago. One of the first Mint cars I ever purchased. No box, filthy, and it was and still is missing a trunk center light thingy. I also have the Danbury Mint black 1942 Town and Country station Wagon. So today, I got a new one and it looks perfect in the pictures. Can't wait to see it in a few weeks.

existential modeling
THarrison351 replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've attempted this once many years ago in the early 2000's. I had a 1993 Ford Ranger Super Cab at the time. AMT made a Splash with a stepside bed and a short fleetside bed. Both had standard cabs. I created my own Super Cab from two standard cabs and documented on the other model car magazine forum. It no longer has pictures due to Photobucket, but here is the result and you can look at my Fotki to see the other picture if you care. Not my truck, this is like mine, but has a grey interior. I can't fins any pictures of my truck before my son wrecked it. -
I've got three Beanstalk diecast. They're all from the James Bond Die Another Day movie. A 2003 Ford Thunderbird kind of orange with a white top. A 2003 Jaguar XKR kind of a candy green weird ice tires, rockets in the trunk, and door. Finally there's the stars car, a 2003 Aston Martin Vanquish. Grey with ejector seat, pop-up machine guns, and rockets behind the grill. They're very well detailed, especially compared to the Ertl, Maisto, and Sunstar cars from the time period. I bought them years ago in a clearance from Toys-R-Us for next to nothing and now I think there worth less than that.

I concur! I have the yellow version somewhere in a box. Here's a mine after some of my own paint additions with a white interior. Sorry, these are the only decent pictures I have.

What Kits were molded in RED ?
THarrison351 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't see any mention of Jo-Han. I know I have a couple in red, but they seem to be hit and miss on all the kits and colors. -
I've always liked this model. One of the first models I ever successfully spray painted when I was a kid almost 50 years ago. Yours looks really good so far.

1/18 BoS (resin) 1957 Imperial Southampton 4 door
THarrison351 replied to Junkman's topic in Diecast Corner
Man, I just love those BoS models! I just looked at some reviews on YT and a lot of people can't understand why BoS makes these without a chassis, engine, or opening doors. I understand because they invest in the exterior details and interior details. The things you see immediately. If they made opening doors, engine and a chassis with the same attention to detail, the cost would be astronomical, like the CMC cars. Plus they do a great variety of cars no one produces like this Imperial! My only regret is I wish they made them in 1/24 scale. 1/18 takes up too much room. -
Why do you build models?
THarrison351 replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never grew up. I'm still a 7 year old kid and I get excited and go vroom vroom vroom when I play with my cars! Just ask my wife! -
That's just sad Gary. Of all my Mint diecast to arrive through shipping, only only one was busted up. My Danbury Mint 1927 Stutz Black Hawk had no original container, but did have a collector case. The seller put a few Styrofoam peanuts in the case with the car, wrapped the case in bubble wrap and put it in a cardboard box. Well, you can imagine all the broken plastic bits once it arrived. The bumpers, mirrors, tail lights, windshield, and hood ornament, all broken off. the case was destroyed too. I did get a refund and was able to repair it more or less. It's a good 5 foot car. Oh yeah, one caveat. I did get another car damaged that was shipped in it's Styrofoam container. My Danbury Mint 1957 Ford Skyliner's rear springs were broken upon arrival. The whole car fit poorly on the plastic pedestal in the bottom.

The rear window is all wrong. Just like the Greenlight Trans Am.

Another win on the Bay. Couldn't pass it up cuz it was cheap. Very dirty and missing the top. Looks like it's all there and in good condition. I'll see it in about seven weeks.
-
They build up really nice! You'll love the result! Mine is non factory green one.
-
It is from Franklin Mint. The outer box with missile launcher added. I haven't actually seen it yet, these are pictures from the eBay seller. I'm still in Canada until November.

Won this the other day. The mirrors are off, but included and the hood comes off. I don't think it will be too hard to fix and it was cheap. All the accessories are there too along with the foam and outer box.

A couple of new acquisitions University of Racing Champions (Icons) released their latest wing car. Bobby Isaac's K & K Insurance 1969 Dodge Daytona. It's amazing how many people have been waiting for these cars to be released. What's really remarkable to me is how few races they actually won (6) over the couple of years they raced. You'd have thought they were more successful the way everyone remembers how fast and powerful they were. I'm hoping the first winner, Richard Brickhouse is released soon. The Ray Nichels 99 car was one of the most beautiful cars ever raced. My quest to obtain all the Danbury Mint Budweiser Delivery Trucks for less than $50 each gets a little more complete with the 1937 Chevrolet in standard livery. They also made a Christmas version. I'll need that one, the 1931 Ford Delivery, and the 1933 International Truck to complete my set. These are not my pictures, I haven't seen the diecast yet. Back in Canada again.

Philco AM radio 1/25th model cars
THarrison351 replied to Motor City's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Over the years, I've seen a lot of T-bird radios listed as promos on eBay. I guess because they use the majority of the promo, they get called a promo. I've never seen the other ones, but I've never looked for other makes in promos. -
